The Bobcat cross coun-try baseball, softball andsoccer teams compete atthe Peeler AthleticComplex.

The West Campus CrossCountry Course opened infall 2008, and hosted thePeach Belt Conference (PBC)Championships that season.

Located minutes fromthe main campus, thePeeler complex underwent a major facelift in 1992 with the addi-tion of box seats and the renovation of the backstop for the base-ball field. The softball field was built in 1990 complete with ascoreboard and bleachers.

Built in 2003, Bobcat Field at West Campus provides an excel-lent venue for some of the best collegiate soccer available in thestate of Georgia. The soccer-specific facility features new light fix-tures to host evening competition, a prominent scoreboard to keepfans in the know and well-manicured hybrid bermuda grass turf.

In fall 2009, the Bobcats added impressive covered grand-stand seating to the facility, so Bobcat fans can enjoy the gamesdespite the weather.

Officially part of the Peeler Complex - including the baseballand softball fields nearby - the field was opened in the fall of2004, the first varsity season for Bobcat soccer. Prior to the 2009season, Georgia College began construction on seatback standsto the vicwing hillside, improving the viewer’s experience whileadding a more complete feel to the facility as a whole.

The Bobcats have had success on the home pitch, 30-13-9 intheir five seasons, including three Peach Belt TournamentQuarterfinal victories. The ‘Cats were 4-3-4 at home in 2009.

Georgia College has many fine athletic facilities in which tocompete, highlighted by the $9 million multipurposeCentennial Center.

The Centennial Center, which was completed in the fall of1989, serves as the home for the Georgia College men and

women’s basketball teams aswell as the offices of the Bobcatathletic department. Locatedwithin the historical district ofMilledgeville, the 95,000square-foot building also hous-es the Department ofKinesiology, and the Center forHealth and Lifestyles.

The completion of the facilityguaranteed that the Bobcats wouldbe competing in one of the finest

on-campus arenas in the state of Georgia and the southeast. The Center has a seating capacity of 4,071 fixed seats and can

accommodate up to 800 additional persons with the arranging ofchairs on the floor. It features foldout end zone and upper bleachersand three full size basketball courts. Its primary use is for Bobcat bas-ketball, but it also is excellent for large events such as concerts, con-ference general sessions or exhibits.

In addition, the Centennial Center serves as the home of thenationally ranked Georgia College men and women’s tennisteams. Seven lighted laykold surface courts are located justoutside of the Centennial Center.

The Centennial Center also has a three-lane 1/8-mile walk-ing/running indoor track, an outdoor swimming pool, a free-weightroom, four racquetball courts and an athletic training room.

In 1996 lights were added to both parks, and the complex wasdedicated to Mike Peeler, the former athletics director atGeorgia College. The baseball field was renamed in honor ofJohn Kurtz, the former coach who put Georgia College baseballon the map. New dugouts were constructed in 2005 along witha new softball pressbox. Softball grandstands were added in2009, as well as the leveling of the baseball infield.

The Georgia College golf team competes multiple beautifulcourses the area, including Harbor Club, the Golf Club atCuscowilla and Little Fishing Creek Golf Course. These coursesprovide Bobcat golfers with outstanding home venues.

Now entering its 20th year of existence in 2009-10, the PeachBelt Conference has become one of the elite Division II conferencesin the nation. Since its inception in 1990-91, the Peach Belt has devel-oped a consistent history of excellence which continues to this daywith 28 national championships and 25 national finalist

Starting with only two championships in 1991, in men’s andwomen’s basketball, the conference has expanded to 13 champi-onship sports with the addition of women’s golf in the fall of 2009.

The conference traces its roots back to November of 1988when 11 schools first met in Greenville, S.C. to form a Division IIconference. Following a second meeting on Dec. 3, 1989, five ofthose 11 schools, plus two others, formed the Peach Belt andbegin play in fall 1990.

The Peach Belt was less than a year old before capturing anational championship. The Columbus State golf team took thehonor by winning the 1992 national crown, the first of three golfchampionships the Cougars own. One year later, the Landermen's tennis team began their record-breaking run of eightstraight national titles, the first PBC dynasty. Since then, USCAmen's golf has won three straight national titles from 2004-06while AASU women's tennis has captured four titles overall.

The 2008-09 season was among the conference’s most memo-rable. The Armstrong Atlantic State men’s and women’s tennis teamsboth won their respective national championships – for the secondyear in a row; a feat only done once before in college tennis. In addi-tion, the Augusta State men’s basketball team became the first con-ference program to make back-to-back trips to the NCAA Elite Eight,Armstrong Atlantic became the first PBC volleyball team ever to

advance to the Elite Eight and the North Georgia softball team wasranked #1 in the nation and reached the World Series.

The seven charter members of the conference were ArmstrongAtlantic State University, Columbus State University, Francis MarionUniversity, Georgia College, Lander University, USC Aiken and USCUpstate. The name Peach Belt Athletic Conference was adopted inJanuary of 1990 and modified to Peach Belt Conference in May of2000.

Augusta State joined the conference in 1991 and UNC Pembrokebecame the ninth member on July 1, 1992. They were followed byKennesaw State University on July 1, 1994, Clayton State Universityon July 1, 1995 and the University of North Florida on July 1, 1997.Kennesaw State and North Florida departed for the Division I ranksin 2005, USC Upstate did the same in 2007, and the conference wel-comed in North Georgia College & State University in 2005 andGeorgia Southwestern State University in 2006.

For 2009-10, the Peach Belt has grown once again with the addi-tion of the University of Montevallo and Flagler College, giving thePBC 13 members, the most the league has ever had. The addition ofthe two schools returns the PBC to the state of Florida and expandsthe league into Alabama for the first time.

David Brunk was named the second PBC commissioner in Mayof 2007. Brunk replaced Marvin Vanover, who was the first PBC com-missioner from 1991 to 2007. Brunk is charged with continuing thestrong growth of the conference as its second era begins.

The conference currently holds championships in 13 sports, sixfor men and seven for women.
