OverviewRead this manual thoroughly tobecome familiar with how thenavigation system operates.

The navigation system includesnavigation and audio functions.

While entering the vehicle or whenturning the vehicle off, someDVD Map Disc noise is normal.

Keeping your eyes on the road andyour mind on the drive is importantfor safe driving. The navigationsystem has built-in features intendedto help keep your eyes on the roadand mind on the drive. Somefeatures may be disabled whiledriving. Note that these functions willbe grayed-out. A grayed-out functionindicates it is not available when thevehicle is moving.

All functions are available when thevehicle is parked. Do the followingbefore driving:

• Become familiar with thenavigation system operation,hard keys on the faceplate, andtouch-sensitive screen buttonsof the navigation system.

• Set up the audio by presettingfavorite stations, setting thetone, and adjusting the speakers.

• Set up the navigation featuresbefore beginning driving, suchas entering an address or apreset destination.

• Set up your phone numbers inadvance so they can be calledeasily with the press of asingle button or a single voicecommand (for navigation systemsequipped with phone capability).

{WARNING

Taking your eyes off the road toolong or too often while using thenavigation system could cause acrash resulting in injury or deathto you or others. Focus yourattention on driving.

{WARNING

Avoid looking too long or toooften at the moving map on thenavigation screen. This couldcause a crash and you or otherscan be injured or killed. Use theturn-by-turn voice guidancedirections whenever possible.

Use the navigation system to:

• Plan a route.

• Select a destination usingvarious methods and choices.

• Follow turn-by-turn route andmap guidance with voiceprompts, only if permitted bytraffic laws, controls, andconditions.

You should always be alert andobey traffic and roadway laws andinstructions, regardless of theguidance from the navigationsystem. Because the navigationsystem uses street map informationthat does not include all trafficrestrictions or the latest roadchanges, it may suggest using a roadthat is now closed for construction ora turn that is prohibited by signs atthe intersection. Because the systemuses limited information, you mustalways evaluate whether followingthe system’s directions is safe andlegal for the current conditions.

When the navigation system isturned on, a screen may appearwith the information below, and youmust read and acknowledge theinformation it contains.

{WARNING

Taking your eyes off the road forextended periods could cause acrash resulting in injury or deathto you or others.

To help avoid a crash in which youor others could be killed:

• Always concentrate on yourdriving first by keeping your eyesand mind on the road, andyour hands on the wheel.

• Follow system directions only ifpermitted by traffic laws,controls, and conditions.

• Before using this system, readthe owner’s manual and learnhow it operates.

• Some system controls cannotbe used the when vehicleis moving.

After you acknowledge the start upinformation you will be able toaccess the NAV (navigation) andDEST (destination) functions.Once accessed, you can enter ordelete information in the navigationsystem or access other functions.See instructions later in this section.

Every fifty times the vehicle isstarted and the navigation systemis turned on, the Caution screenappears.

After reading the caution, select OKto load the map DVD information.If OK is not selected, all hardkeys except for NAV (Navigation)and DEST (Destination) canbe accessed. You can also pressthe NAV hard key to have thisCaution screen appear.

When getting started, set thenavigation system to your preferenceor delete information you may haveentered using various options.

Deleting Personal InformationThis navigation system canrecord and store destinations.You may want to delete storeddestinations when the vehicle issold or the lease has expired. Referto the following sections to deletethe destination information thathas been stored.

See “Memory Points”, “Home”,“Previous Destination” and “PresetDestinations”, under StoredLocations on page 46 for deletingstored destinations.

Storing Radio Station PresetsTo set preset radio stations:

1. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

2. Press the SRCE hard key andselect the desired band (AM,FM1, FM2, XM1, or XM2(if equipped)).

3. Use the TUNE/SEEK arrows totune to the desired station.

4. Press and hold one of thesix preset screen buttons, at thebottom of the screen, until a beepis heard or the station is displayedon the selected preset button.

5. Repeat the steps for each preset.

Setting the ClockTo set the time:

1. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

2. Press and hold the time displayin the upper right corner of anyscreen.

3. Select the 12H or 24H screenbutton to display the time instandard or military time.

4. Press and hold the Hour andMin. (minute) arrow buttonsto increase or to decreasethe time.

5. Select the correct time zonescreen button.

6. Select the Daylight Saving Timescreen button, if necessary.

The radio uses the GPS satellite toset the time. The vehicle needsto be in an open area to receive thesignal. See “Clock” under AM-FMRadio on page 13 for moreinformation.

Setting the Region, Enteringan Address and Point ofInterest, and Storing a HomeDestination and PresetDestinationsBefore entering an Address,Point of Interest, Home, or PresetDestination, select the correct regionthat contains the final destination.The vehicle must be stopped to dothis operation.

Setting the Region

To set the region:

1. If the radio is already on with amap disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See“Installing the Map DVD” underMaps on page 66 for moreinformation.

4. A notice may appear. Touch theAgree screen button to proceed.

5. Press the NAV hard key.

6. Press the MENU screen button.

7. Press the < Enter Destinationscreen button.

8. Press the Region screen button.

9. Select the correct numberedregion screen button thatcontains your final destination.

The system returns to the EnterDestination menu. See EnterDestination on page 32 for moreinformation.

Entering an Address

To set a destination by entering astreet address:

1. If the radio is already on with amap disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See“Installing the Map DVD” underMaps on page 66 for moreinformation.

4. A notice may appear. Touch theAgree screen button to proceed.

5. Press the NAV hard key.

6. Press the MENU screen button.

7. Press the < Enter Destinationscreen button. Verify that theselected Region is correct.

8. Press the 2 Address screenbutton.

9. Enter the street name using thealpha keypad on the screen.Do not enter street direction (ie N,S.E., or W) information or type ofstreet (ie road, lane, or court) tothe address. Use the spacesymbol screen button (U)between street or city names.For example, the street nameN. Royal Oak Rd. should beentered as royalUoak. Use thebackspace (V) screen button ifan incorrect character has beenentered.

10. Select the type of street(Dr., Ln., St., etc.) if it applies,from the list.

11. If there is more than one city, thesystem displays the list of citiesthat have a street with thatname. Select a city from the listor select the Input Name screenbutton to enter the city name.

12. Enter the house number usingthe numeric keypad on thescreen and touch the OK screenbutton.

A map screen appears with thedestination marked.

13. Select the h (destination)symbol screen button.

14. Select the Guide screen button.

15. Once driving begins, anaudio prompt “Proceed tothe highlighted route” is heard.The vehicle is now in routeguidance mode.

Entering a Point of Interest (POI)

To set a destination by enteringa Point of Interest (POI):

1. If the radio is already on with amap disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See“Installing the Map DVD” underMaps on page 66 for moreinformation.

4. A notice may appear. Touch theAgree screen button to proceed.

5. Press the NAV hard key.

6. Press the MENU screen button.

7. Press the < Enter Destinationscreen button. Verify that theselected Region is correct.

8. Press the K Point of Interestscreen button.

9. Enter the specific title of thePOI in the Name space(i.e. Washington Monument)using the alpha keypad on thescreen.

10. Select the POI from the list.

11. If there is more than one city, thesystem displays the list of citiesthat have a street with thatname. Select a city from the listor select the Input Name screenbutton to input the city name.

A map screen appears with thedestination marked.

12. Select the h (destination)symbol screen button.

13. Select the Guide screen button.

14. Once driving begins an audioprompt “Proceed to thehighlighted route” is heard.The vehicle is now in routeguidance mode.

Storing a Home Destination1. If the radio is already on with a

map disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

4. A notice may appear. Touch theAgree screen button to proceed.

5. Press the NAV hard key.

6. Press the MENU screen button.

7. Press the N Stored Locationsscreen button.

8. Press the L Home screen button.

9. Press the Add screen button.

10. Press the Address screenbutton and enter all addressinformation.

11. Press the OK screen button.A map screen appears withthe destination marked.

12. Press the OK screen button.

13. Press the back arrow screenbutton.

The L Home icon is highlightedon the Enter Destinationscreen. See “Using Your Homeor Preset Destinations” laterin this section for moreinformation.

Storing a Preset Destination1. If the radio is already on with a

map disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See“Installing the Map DVD” underMaps on page 66 for moreinformation.

4. A notice may appear. Touch theAgree screen button to proceed.

5. Press the NAV hard key.

12. Press the OK screen button.

13. Press the back arrow screenbutton.

The numbered presetdestination is highlighted onthe Enter Destination screen.See “Using Your Home or PresetDestinations” next in this sectionfor more information.

Using Your Home or PresetDestinationsThese destinations are available forselection while driving.

1. If the radio is already on with amap disc inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See“Installing the Map DVD” underMaps on page 66 for moreinformation.

4. A notice may appear. Touch theAgree screen button to proceed.

5. Press the NAV hard key.

6. Press the MENU screen button.

7. Press the < Enter Destinationscreen button.

8. Select the L(Home symbol) orone of the available presetdestination symbols. A mapscreen appears with thedestination marked.

9. Select the h (destination)symbol screen button.

10. Select the Guide screen button.

11. Once driving begins an audioprompt “Proceed to thehighlighted route” is heard.The vehicle is now in routeguidance mode.

Canceling GuidanceGuidance is canceled once youarrive at the final destination.To cancel guidance prior to arrivalat the final destination:

1. Press the NAV hard key toaccess the map screen.

2. Press the MENU screen buttonon the map screen.

3. Press the E Route Optionsscreen button.

4. Press the Cancel Guidancescreen button.

5. Press the Yes screen button toconfirm cancellation.

Stored LocationsOnce a destination has been stored,the address information can thenbe edited and deleted. See StoredLocations on page 46 for moreinformation on other features thatcan be stored, edited, and deleted.

To delete the stored homedestination:

1. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

2. Insert the DVD map disc. See“Installing the Map DVD” underMaps on page 66 for moreinformation.

3. A notice may appear. Touch theAgree screen button to proceed.If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, pressthe NAV hard key.

4. Press the MENU screen button.

5. Press the N Stored Locationsscreen button.

6. Press the L Home screen button.

7. Press the Delete screen button.

8. A confirmation pop-up screenappears: select Yes to delete;select No to cancel the operation.

To delete a waypoint or a storedpreset destination:

1. Press the power/volume knob toturn the system on.

2. Insert the DVD map disc. See“Installing the Map DVD” underMaps on page 66 for moreinformation.

3. A notice may appear. Touch theAgree screen button to proceed.If the radio is already on witha map disc inserted, pressthe NAV hard key.

4. Press the MENU screen button.

5. Press the N Stored Locationsscreen button.

6. Press the $ Dest. & Way Pt. orthe & Previous Dest. screenbutton.

7. Press the Delete screen button,then select the way point or thenumbered preset button to delete.

8. A confirmation pop-up screenappears: select Yes to delete;select No to cancel the operation.

Guidance VolumeTo adjust the volume of voiceguidance prompts:

1. Press the NAV hard key toaccess the map screen.

2. Press the MENU screen buttonon the map screen.

3. Press the I Navigation SetUp screen button.

4. Press the > Guidance Volumescreen button.

5. Select the desired volume orselect Off. The system playsback the new volume level.

Cleaning the DisplayIf the panel or the display is stained,wipe it with a dry, soft cloth.

Notice: If you use abrasivecleaners when cleaning glasssurfaces, you could scratchthe glass. When cleaning theglass, use only a soft cloth anddo not spray cleaner directlyon the system.

Do not apply spray cleaner directlyto the system, the cleaner couldaffect the mechanical parts.

Do not wipe the panel with a hardcloth or use a liquid that could ignite,such as thinner or alcohol, itcould scratch the surface or erasethe characters.

Radio

AM-FM RadioNotice: Before adding any soundequipment to the vehicle, suchas an audio system, CD player,CB radio, mobile telephone, ortwo-way radio, make sure that itcan be added by checking withyour dealer/retailer. Also, checkfederal rules covering mobileradio and telephone units.If sound equipment can be added,it is very important to do itproperly. Added sound equipmentcan interfere with the operationof the vehicle’s engine, radio, orother systems, and even damagethem. The vehicle’s systems caninterfere with the operation ofsound equipment that has beenadded.

Notice: The chime signals relatedto safety belts, parking brake, andother functions of the vehicleoperate through the navigationsystem. If that equipment isreplaced or additional equipmentis added to the vehicle, the chimesmay not work. Make sure thatreplacement or additionalequipment is compatible withthe vehicle before installing it.See “Accessories andModifications” in the Indexof the vehicle’s owner manual.

Your vehicle has a feature calledRetained Accessory Power (RAP).RAP lets the audio system playafter the ignition is turned off.See “Retained Accessory Power(RAP)” in the Index of your vehicle’sowner manual for more information.

The audio system operates usingthe navigation system menus.

Playing the Radio

Power/Volume Knob: Press toturn the audio system on andoff. Turn to increase or decreasethe volume to the audio system.

¦O SEEK ¥:

• Press and hold the up or downarrow until a beep is heard togo to the next or previous stationand stay there.

• Press and hold either arrow toperform a fast seek.

SRCE (Source): Press to displaythe main audio screen.

Audio Adjust Screen

e / z (Audio/Adjust Screen):Press to view the audio and screensettings.

Automatic Volume Control (AVC):The audio system adjustsautomatically with AVC to make upfor road and wind noise while driving.The volume increases as vehiclespeed increases.

To use AVC, set the volume to thedesired level and then touch the ONscreen button. To turn AVC off,select the OFF screen button.

If your vehicle is equipped with aBose® sound system, it includesBose® AudioPilot® noisecompensation technology.

When turned ON, AudioPilotcontinuously adjusts the audiosystem equalization to compensatefor background noise, so that yourmusic always sounds the same atthe set volume level.

This feature works best at lowervolume settings where backgroundnoise may mask the audio. At highervolume settings, where the audio ismuch louder than the noise, theremay be little or no change in theaudio level. For additionalinformation on AudioPilot, visitwww.bose.com/audiopilot.

To use this feature, set the volume tothe desired level and then touch theON screen button. To turn it off,select the OFF screen button.

Preset selection: This featureprograms local presets thatare recalled by touching HOME.

Presets can also be programmedwhile traveling to another area andcan be stored under the AWAYsetting. See “Preset Station Menu”later in this section for moreinformation.

Color Scheme: Select this featureto change the color of audio andnavigation screens. Touch anyof the color options to viewthe different backgrounds. Coloroption 1 is the default option.

Clock

Touch the clock symbol at the bottomof the audio/adjust screen or touchand hold the time display in theupper right corner of any menu toaccess the CLOCK ADJUST menu.Touching the time display alsodisplays the date on the status barat the top of the screen.

The following time options can beadjusted from this menu:

Hour/Min.:

• Touch the up or down arrows toincrease or decrease the houror minutes.

• Touch and hold either arrow toadvance quickly.

12H/24H: Touch 12H to display thetime in standard time, or 24H todisplay the time in military time.

GPS TIME: The current GPS timeis displayed to the right of thisbutton. Touch GPS TIME to set thenavigation system’s time to matchcurrent GPS time.

Daylight Saving Time: Touch thisscreen button to increase the timesetting by one hour, then touch GPSTIME to save the new setting. If thescreen button is light blue, thedaylight savings time feature is on.If the screen button is dark blue, thedaylight savings time feature is off.

TIME ZONE: The selected timezone appears to the right of thisscreen button. Touch TIME ZONE totoggle through the available timezones until the desired time zone ishighlighted. The time of the selectedzone is displayed to the right of GPSTIME. To set the system clock to thenew setting, touch GPS TIME.

If the system is not receiving GPSinformation, the time can still be setmanually as described above, butGPS time and Daylight Saving Timefeatures are not available.

Touch the back screen button to goback to the previous menu.

Screen Adjust

To adjust the contrast or brightnessof the screen, touch SCREENADJUST at the bottom of theaudio/adjust screen.

The following screen options canadjusted from this menu:

K (Contrast): Touch the plus (+)or minus (−) to adjust the contrast.The screen changes. Touch OKto confirm the change.

! (Brightness): Touch the plus (+)or minus (−) to adjust the brightness.Touch OK to confirm the change.

AUTO: This setting automaticallyadjusts the contrast and brightnessof the screen based on outsidelighting conditions.

DAY: This setting leaves thescreen in day mode which, is bestsuited for daylight conditions.

NIGHT: This setting leaves thescreen in night mode which, is bestsuited for nighttime conditions.

SOUND: See “Sound Menu”following in this section for moreinformation.

Sound MenuTouch SOUND at the bottom of themain audio screen or source menu tochange the tone, ATC, fade, andbalance for all sources. The audiosystem has a separate setting forthese features for each sourcepreset. However, the audio systemkeeps one fade and one balancesetting for all audio sources.

To adjust sound settings:

• Touch the plus (+) or minus (−)signs to adjust treble, mid-range,and bass, if in the Manualmode of ATC.

• Touch the L (left) or R (right) toadjust the balance of thespeakers.

• Touch the F (front) or R (Rear) toadjust the fade of the speakers.

• Touch the ATC screen button toadjust the ATC setting. See“Adjusting the Speakers” later inthis section for more information.

After adjustments are made, touchthe back screen button to goback to the preset station menu.Whenever the back screen buttonis touched, the previously storedinformation that was enteredfor each preset station is recalled.

Adjusting the Speakers

ATC (Auto Tone Control): TheATC feature is used to providea choice of six different listeningexperiences. ATC can be used whilelistening to the audio system orthe CD player.

The audio system can storeseparate ATC settings for eachsource and preset station.

To save ATC settings for yourpreset stations, use the SOUNDmenu and touch ATC. See “PresetStations” earlier in this sectionfor more information.

Radio Data System (RDS)The audio system has a Radio DataSystem (RDS). RDS features areavailable for use only on FM stationsthat broadcast RDS information.With RDS, the radio can dothe following:

• Seek to stations broadcasting theselected type of programming

• Receive announcementsconcerning local and nationalemergencies

• Display messages from radiostations

• Seek to stations with trafficannouncements

RDS (Radio Data System): TouchRDS to use alternate RDS functionslocated in the preset menu. Aftertouching RDS, quickly choose RDSON/OFF, TA, INFO, PTY, or SelectPTY. If a selection is not made, thesystem returns to the previous menu.

If tuned to a station broadcastingRDS information, the station’sProgram Service (PS) and ProgramType (PTY) replaces the station’sfrequency on the status line atthe top of the display. After aboutfive seconds, if available, the PTYis replaced on the display by thestation’s PTY name. The PTY andPTY name can be the same ordifferent.

If the audio system is tuned to astation that is not broadcasting RDSinformation, the station’s frequencyremains on the display.

The RDS feature relies uponreceiving specific information fromRDS stations. These featuresonly work when RDS informationis available.

TA (Traffic Announcement): TouchTA to receive traffic announcements.TA displays if the current stationbroadcasts traffic announcements.If the current station does notbroadcast traffic announcements, theaudio system seeks to a station thatdoes and stops. If no station is found,TA turns off.

While a traffic announcement plays,the audio system uses TA volume.To increase TA volume, use theVOL up or down buttons duringthe announcement. See “VoiceGuidance Volume Settings” underNavigation Set Up on page 55 formore information.

When a traffic announcement comeson the current radio station, it can beheard even if the volume is muted ora CD is playing. If the CD player wasbeing used, the CD stays in theplayer and resumes play at the pointwhere it stopped.

Touch RDS followed by TA again toturn TA off.

INFO (Information): When RDSis on, if the current station has amessage, INFO displays. TouchINFO from the preset menu toview the message. If the wholemessage does not display, partsof the message appears everythree seconds until the messageis completed. Once the completemessage has been displayed, INFOdisappears from the display untilanother new message is received.INFO remains available so that theentire message an be displayedagain.

PTY (Program Type): PTY onlyseeks stations with certain programtypes. This button is used to turnon and off Program Type (PTY)features.

With RDS on, touch RDS, followedby PTY. The PTY display turns on.Touch RDS followed by this buttonagain to turn the PTY display off.

Select PTY (Select Program Type):With RDS and PTY on, touch RDS,then Select PTY. The PTY menuappears. Use the up and downarrows to select a PTY.

When the PTY display is on, pressTUNE/SEEK or SCAN to find radiostations of the PTY selected. The lastPTY selected is used for seek andscan modes. If a station with theselected PTY is not found, STATIONNOT FOUND displays. If both PTYand TA are on, the audio systemsearches for stations with trafficannouncements and theselected PTY.

PTY (Program Type) Presets: Thesix presets let you return to yourfavorite PTYs. These presetshave factory PTY preset stations.See “RDS Program Type (PTY)Selections” later in this section.Up to 12 PTYs, 6 FM1 and 6 FM2can be set. To save a PTY preset:

1. Touch FM1 or FM2.

2. Touch RDS to enter theRDS menu.

3. Touch RDS ON/OFF to turnRDS on.

4. Touch PTY.

5. Touch Select PTY and select thedesired PTY from the list.

6. Touch and hold one of thesix presets for more thantwo seconds until a beep is heard.When you touch that numberedpreset for less than two seconds,the set PTY returns.

7. Repeat the steps for eachpreset.

Touch the stored PTY preset stationfor less than two seconds to recall it.Then use TUNE/SEEK or SCAN tolocate a station for that PTYselection.

ALERT: This type of announcementwarns of national or localemergencies and cannot be turnedoff. ALERT displays while an alertannouncement plays. The audiosystem uses TA volume duringthese announcements.

To increase volume, use the VOLup and down buttons during theannouncement. See “VoiceGuidance Volume Settings” underNavigation Set Up on page 55 formore information. When an alertannouncement comes on the tunedradio station it will be heard evenif the volume is muted or a CDis playing. If the CD player isplaying, the player stops for theannouncement and resumes whenthe announcement is finished.

Home and Away PresetStationsIf the vehicle has this feature, theaudio system settings that wereadjusted the last time the vehiclewas operated can be recalled.This feature allows two differentdrivers to store and recall their ownaudio system settings. The adjustedsettings are recalled by the audiosystem and are determined by whichRemote Keyless Entry (RKE)transmitter (1 or 2) that was used to

enter the vehicle. The number onthe back of the RKE transmittercorresponds to driver 1 or to driver 2.

The audio system can store HOMEand AWAY preset stations. HOMEand AWAY preset stations allowthe use of one set of preset radiosettings in a local area, and anotherset that are not in the local broadcastarea. This eliminates the need toreprogram preset stations whiletravelling out of the area.

To select HOME and AWAY presetstations:

1. Touch the Audio hard key toenter the audio screen.

2. Touch the HOME or AWAYbutton.The next time the audio system isturned on, the system recalls thelast active preset selection.

If the vehicle loses battery power,the local preset stations do not haveto be reset. However, the non-localpreset stations must be reset.

Satellite RadioPlaying the Radio

Power/Volume Knob: Press toturn the audio system on andoff. Turn to increase or decreasethe volume to the audio system.

• Press and hold the up or downarrow until a beep is heard togo to the next or previous stationand stay there.

• Press and hold either arrow toperform a fast seek.

Each of the four information typesmay have multiple pages of text.To reach a category, touch INFOonce and wait until the desired typedisplays. If there are multiple pagesof text for the information selectedtype, the radio automatically displaysall the pages for that type at a rate ofabout one page every three secondsbefore timing out and returning to thedefault display.

XM™ Radio Messages

See “XM™ Radio Messages” in thevehicle’s owner manual” for a listof possible XM messages.

Audio Players

CD PlayerTo load/eject a music CD, do thefollowing:

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. Press the faceplate tilt hard key.This opens the faceplate of thesystem.

3. Press the eject hard key with theCD symbol. If a CD is alreadyloaded, the CD ejects fromthe slot.

4. Gently remove the CD from theslot and return it to its case.

5. Insert the music CD into the slot.The system pulls the disc intothe player.

6. Press and release the faceplatetilt hard key to close thefaceplate.

When the faceplate is opened,a warning message displays as areminder to close the faceplateas soon as possible.

Playing a CDOnce a music CD is loaded, theCD player menu displays.

If the ignition or radio is turned offwhile a CD is in the player, it stays inthe player. When the ignition or radiois turned on, the CD starts to playwhere it stopped, if it was the lastselected audio source.

As each new track starts to play,the track number displays.

The CD player can play the smaller3 inch (8 cm) single CDs with anadapter ring. Full-size CDs and thesmaller CDs are loaded in thesame manner.

If playing a CD-R the sound qualitycan be reduced due to CD-R quality,the method of recording, the qualityof the music that has been recorded,and the way the CD-R has beenhandled. There can be an increase inskipping, difficulty in finding tracks,and/or difficulty in loading andejecting.

If these problems occur, check thebottom surface of the CD. If thesurface of the CD is damaged, suchas cracked, broken, or scratched, theCD does not play properly. If thesurface of the CD is soiled, see“Radios” in the Index of yourvehicle’s owner manual.

If there is no apparent damage, trya known good CD.

Notice: If a label is added to a CD,or more than one CD is insertedinto the slot at a time, or anattempt is made to play scratchedor damaged CDs, the CD playercould be damaged. While usingthe CD player, use only CDs ingood condition without any label,load one CD at a time, and keepthe CD player and the loading slotfree of foreign materials, liquids,and debris.

Do not add any label to a CD as itcould get caught in the CD player.If a description label is needed, labelthe top of the CD with a soft marker.

If an error displays, see “CD Errors”later in this section.

r (Play): Touch this button tobegin playing a CD.

RANDOM:

1. Touch this button to hear thetracks in random, rather thansequential, order on thecurrent CD.

2. Press the TUNE/SEEK hard keyto randomly seek through thetracks on this CD.

3. Touch RANDOM or RANDOMDISC again to turn offrandom play.

SCAN TRACKS:

1. Touch this button to hear the first10 seconds of each track on thecurrent CD.

2. Touch this button again to stopscanning. The CD mutes whilescanning.

REPEAT TRACK: Touch thisbutton to repeat the selected track.Touch this button again to turnoff repeated play.

r (Rewind): Touch this button torewind quickly through a trackselection.

Playing a CD ChangerIf the vehicle has the CD changer,it can play up to six discs. Normalsize discs may be played using thetrays supplied in the magazine.The smaller discs (8 cm) canbe played only with speciallydesigned trays.

The magazine must be loaded withCDs before one can play. Eachof the six trays holds one CD.

Load the trays from bottom to top,placing a disc in the tray labelside up. If a CD is loaded with thelabel side down, the disc doesnot play and an error occurs. Repeatthis procedure for loading up tosix discs in the magazine.

Once you have loaded the discs intothe magazine, slide the CD changerdoor open. Push the magazine intothe changer in the direction of thearrow marked on top of themagazine.

Close the door by sliding it allthe way to the right. When thedoor is closed, the changer beginschecking for discs in the magazine.This continues for up to one and ahalf minutes, depending on thenumber of discs loaded. Noise mightbe heard, but this is normal. The CDchanger is initializing.

To eject the magazine from theplayer, slide the CD changer doorall the way open. Press EJECT,located inside of the changerdoor, and the magazine ejects.Remember to keep the door closedwhenever possible to keep dirtand dust from getting insidethe changer.

To eject CDs from the magazine,push the RELEASE switch onthe bottom of the magazine.

Press the CD hard key to accessthe six-disc CD changer screen.The system’s DVD player for singleCD play can also be used once themap DVD is removed. See “CD/DVDPlayer” later in this section for moreinformation.

If no CD is loaded in the CD/DVDPlayer and the CD hard key ispressed, the message “No CDloaded” displays.

The numbered buttons, 1 through 6,represent the order of the CDsloaded in the changer. If thereare only two CDs loaded, onlybuttons 1 and 2 are available tochoose from.

Many of the buttons describedpreviously in the “Playing a CD”section have the same functionas the CD changer buttons.See “Playing a CD” earlier, forbutton description.

Using an MP3MP3 Format

When creating an MP3 disc, thefollowing is a list of guidelines.If these guidelines are not followedwhile recording a CD-R(W), theCD may not play.

• ID3 tag information is displayedby the radio if it is available.The radio supports ID3 taginformation v1.0 or v1.1. Theradio displays a filename, songname, artist name, album name,and directory name.

• Maximum 31 characters,including spaces, in a file orfolder name.

• Maximum number of folders is500 with 500 files with a maximumhierarchy of eight folders. It isrecommended to keep the depthof folders to a minimum in order tokeep down the complexity andconfusion in trying to locate aparticular folder during playback.

• Create a folder structure thatmakes it easy to find songs whiledriving. Organize songs byalbums using one folder for eachalbum. Each folder or albumshould contain 18 songs or less.

• The files can be recorded on aCD-R or CD-RW with a maximumcapacity of 700MB.

• DVD with MP3 are not playableon this system.

• The radio does not play a mixedmode CD-R/RW, a disc recordedwith both *.cda and *.mp3 files.

• The player supports a disc withmultiple sessions, but it is notrequired that the disc be finalized.It is recommended to record thedisc all at once.

• Recording format mode 2 ormode 2XA with Romeo or Jolietfile system is not supported withthis player.

• All applicable Mode 1 recordingformats are supported.

• MPEG 2.5 is not supported withthis player. File formats MPEG 1and MPEG 2 with all bit rates(including variable) except lessthan 16kbps are supported withthis player.

• Long files or folder names or acombination of a large number offiles and folders could cause theplayer to be unable to play up tothe maximum number of files orfolders or affect the reading speedand time to play.

Playing an MP3

Many of the buttons describedpreviously in the “Playing a CD”section have the same function asthe MP3 buttons. See “Playinga CD” earlier, for button description.

HOME: Select this screen button togo to the Home folder. This is thefolder on the disc which contains thecurrent track that is playing.

# (Folder Up): Select this screenbutton to go to the previousfolder.

rq (Seek):

1. Press the up arrow to seek to thenext track on a disc. If playing thelast track, press the up arrow toseek to the first track of thecurrent folder.

2. Press the down arrow to go tothe beginning of the currenttrack or to the previous trackon a disc. If playing the first track,press the down arrow to seekto the last track on the currentfolder.

CD ErrorsCD ERROR could display for thefollowing:

• The road is too rough. The CDshould play when the road issmoother.

• The CD is dirty, scratched,wet, or not loaded labelside up.

• The air is very humid. If so,wait about an hour and tryagain.

If any error occurs repeatedly orif an error cannot be corrected,contact your dealer/retailer.

Using the NavigationSystemThis section has basic informationon how to operate the navigationsystem.

Use the hard keys located on thenavigation system along with theavailable touch screen buttons onthe navigation screen to operate thesystem. See Overview on page 4 formore information.

Once the vehicle is moving, somefunctions are disabled to reducedriver distractions.

Hard KeysThe following hard keys are locatedon the navigation system:

X (Open/Close Faceplate): Pressthis key located at the bottom ofthe Navigation Screen to openor close the faceplate.

XB (Eject CD): Press the ejectCD key next to the CD loadingslot to eject CDs. See CD Player onpage 23 for more information.

X DVD (Eject Map DatabaseDVD): Press the eject DVD key nextto the DVD loading slot to eject themap DVD. See “Installing the MapDVD” under Maps on page 66 formore information.

Power/Volume Knob: Press to turnthe audio and navigation systems onand off. Turn to increase or decreasethe volume to the audio system.

g (Voice Recognition): Pressto activate the voice recognitionsystem. See Voice Recognition onpage 76 for more information.

NAV (Navigation): Press to accessthe map screen. If this key is pressedwhen a map screen is displayed andwhile in route guidance, the systemrepeats the last voice command.

Alpha-Numeric KeypadLetters of the alphabet, symbols,punctuation, and numbers aredisplayed on the navigation screenas an alpha or numeric keypad.The alpha keypad displays whena city or street name needs tobe entered. Touch the Sym.(symbol) screen button at the bottomof the alpha keypad to access thenumeric keypad when entering ahouse address, punctuation mark, orother character. Touch A - Z to returnto the alpha keypad.

All characters are touch-sensitivescreen buttons. Touch a character toselect it.

U (Space): Touch to enter aspace between characters orthe words of a name.

V (Back space): Touch if anincorrect character has beenselected.

To make name selections easier,the system only lets you selecta character which can follow the lastone entered. For example, if a Zis entered, a T is not be available toselect. The system highlights theavailable characters.

If a name does not display after it isentered, it may need to be entereddifferently, the map DVD databasemay not contain that information,or the correct search area hasnot been selected. See DatabaseCoverage Explanations on page 76for more information.

Touch-Sensitive ButtonsTouch-sensitive buttons are locatedon the screen. When a screen buttonhas been selected, a beep sounds.These buttons are highlighted whena feature is available. There are alsosome toggle screen buttons that arelight in color when active.

Keyless Access SystemWhen the vehicle is started, Driver 1or Driver 2 displays on the DriverInformation Center (DIC). Thenumber on the back of the RKEtransmitter corresponds to driver 1or driver 2. The navigation systemcan store memory points, audiopresets, system settings, and lastknow audio mode for driver 1 anddriver 2 individually. See “VehiclePersonalization” in the index of yourvehicle’s owner manual for moreinformation.

Enter DestinationPress the < Enter Destinationscreen button to access the ENTERDESTINATION screen. From thisscreen, several options are availableto plan a route by enteringdestination points.

Once a destination entry iscomplete, regardless of whichmethod used, a map screen withthe destination previewed displays.

• Change route preferences,route options, map appearances,or add a waypoint at this time.

• Set the destination withoutmaking any further changes.See “Getting Started onYour Route” later in this sectionfor more information on yourchoices once a destination hasbeen entered.

This menu has two pages. To viewthe second page, press the1/2 arrow button.

RegionThe ENTER DESTINATION screendisplays a map of the United Statesand a part of Canada divided into11 regions.

Before selecting a destination entrymethod, review the search area mapto make sure your destination islocated in the highlighted region.

1. Touch the Region screen buttonfrom the ENTER DESTINATIONscreen to see a list of statesincluded in the highlighted region,or to change the region. TheSEARCH AREA screen displays.

2. Touch the numbered screenbutton to the left of the searcharea map that corresponds withthe numbered region youwish to select or to view a list ofstates included in that region.

3. Touch the down arrow to the leftof the search area map to selectCAN (Canada). Once theregion has been selected, theregion is highlighted on the map.

AddressThe address destination entrymethod lets you enter an addressby providing the system with a streetname or city.

2 Address: Touch this screenbutton to access the ADDRESSscreen. Enter the address one oftwo ways: street first or city first.

To enter the street name first:

1. Touch the Street screen buttonfrom the address menu and startentering the street name usingthe alpha keypad. A list of five orfewer available street namesautomatically display. Select theList screen button at any time toview the available street names.The box at the end of the Streetentry field contains the number ofstreet names available in thecurrent generated list.

2. Select the desired street namewith the correct designation(Dr., Ln, St., etc.) from the list.

3. If the system determines that thestreet is found in only one citywithin the search area, thatcity automatically is selected.

If there is more than one city,the system displays the listof cities that have a street withthat name. Select a city from thelist or select the Input Namescreen button to enter thecity name.

4. The house number screendisplays, enter the house numberusing the numeric keypad.

5. Once the correct house numberis selected, press the OK screenbutton.A map screen appears with thedestination marked.

6. Select the h (destination)symbol screen button.

K Point of Interest: Touch thisscreen button from the ENTERDESTINATION screen to accessthe POINT OF INTEREST screen.This screen has three options toselect/input the destination.

Either enter the name of the POIusing the alpha keypad, select acategory from the category list, orselect the city by selecting the Cityscreen button.

To input the POI name:

1. Use the alpha keypad to enterthe POI name.Touch Sym. (symbol) to selectsymbols and numbers for thePOI, touch Others to selectspecial characters for the POI,or touch A - Z to return to thealpha keypad.A list of POIs appear using theinformation from the alphakeypad input. To use this destination entrymethod:

1. Enter the first of two streets in theintersection. A list of availablestreet names display when there

are less than five available. Touchthe List screen button at any timeto view the available streetnames.

2. Select a street from the list, orcontinue to spell the street nameto further reduce the number ofavailable street names.

3. After the first street has beenselected, enter the secondstreet name. The List buttonmay again become available.

4. Select the second street fromthe list, or continue to spell thestreet name to further reduce thenumber of available street names.After both streets have beenselected, a map screen appearswith the destination marked.

HomeThis feature lets you plan a route toone previously stored destinationthat you have selected as a home.If a home destination is not stored,the home button is not available.Besides preset destinations onethrough five, this destination is theonly other one that can be set byvoice recognition while the vehicle ismoving.

L (Home): Touch this screenbutton from the ENTERDESTINATION screen toset a home destination.

To use this destination entrymethod:

1. Touch the Home button from theENTER DESTINATION screen.

2. The system then sets your presethome destination as the currentdestination. To store a presethome destination, see StoredLocations on page 46 formore information.A map screen appears with thedestination marked.

Getting Started on Your RouteOnce a destination has beenentered, choose from these options:

h (Destination): Touch this buttonto set the entered destination as itis, without further adjustment.

o (Waypoint): Touch this buttonto enter this point as a waypointalong the route. This feature lets youenter up to five stops on the wayto your destination. See “Dest.& Way Pt. (Destination & WayPoint)” under Stored Locations on

page 46 for more information aboutadding and deleting waypoints.

Route Preference: Touch thisscreen button to access the ROUTEPREFERENCES screen to adjust theroute preferences. The currentsetting is displayed in the RoutePreference section of the mapscreen. See “Route Pref.” underRoute Options on page 60 for moreinformation.

Once the route preferences havebeen set, the system displaysthe map screen.

After selecting the h (destination)symbol, the following screen buttonsbecome available.

Three Routes

The 3 routes screen gives youa selection of selecting threedifferent routes to get you to yourdestinations. To use the 3 routesoption:

1. Select the 3 routes button on themap screen.

The system calculates up to threedifferent versions of your currentroute in three different colors:Quick, Normal, and Short.

The routes are shown withdistance to destination andestimated travel time, or selectthe Info screen button to accessthe INFO FOR 3 ROUTESscreen. From this screen, you canview the following information:

• G (Estimated TravelTime) — Shows the route’sestimated time of travel.

• J (Straight-LineDistance) — Shows theroute’s straight-line distanceto destination.

• W (Toll Road) — Shows thedistance traveled on toll roads.

• c (Freeway Travel) — Showsthe distance traveled onfreeways.

• b (Ferry) — Shows thedistance traveled by ferry.

• { (Time RestrictedRoads) — Shows the distancetraveled on time-restrictedroads.

2. Select the Quick, Normal, orShort screen button.A map screen appears with thedestination marked.

3. Select the Guide screen buttonto start route and voice guidance.

Stored LocationsSelect the N Stored Locationsscreen button from the NAV. MENUto access the STORED LOCATIONSscreen. From this screen, you canaccess the following options:

Memory Points

N Memory Points: This featurecan store memory points inthese four categories: Personal,Business, Entertainment, andMarked Point. The category namescan be changed.

To store a point:

1. Touch the Memory Points screenbutton from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Select one of thefolders/categories listed.

3. Select the Add screen button.

4. Select the desired methodof entering a destination to enterthe memory point. See EnterDestination on page 32 for moreinformation.

A map screen appears displayingthe selected memory pointlocation.

5. If available, touch the INFObutton to view the addressinformation of the selected point.

6. Touch OK to store the point as amemory point.

To edit the name of a stored point:

1. Touch the Memory Pointsscreen button from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the folder/category thatthe memory point exists in.

3. Select the List screen button.

4. Select the memory point to edit.Use the sort feature to sort bydistance, icon, name, or date asneeded.

5. Touch the Name screen buttonfrom the EDIT MEMORYPOINT screen.

4. Select the memory point to edit.Use the sort feature to sort bydistance, icon, name, or date asneeded.

5. Touch the Icon screen buttonfrom the EDIT MEMORYPOINT screen.

6. Select the desired icon. Thereare two pages (52) icons,six icons that have soundsassociated with them, and aNo Icon button to select from.Select the With Sound screenbutton, and the sound iconsdisplay. To hear the sound of theicon, touch the Sound screenbutton next to each icon. If thesound icons are used, theassociated sound is heard whenthe vehicle is approximately 650 ft(200 m) from the memory point.Select the No Icon screen buttonto not have an icon associatedwith the point.The new icon displays in theEDIT MEMORY POINT screen,next to the Icon screen button.

7. Touch the back screen button tostore the change.

To move the memory point fromone folder/category to another:

1. Touch the Memory Points screenbutton from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the folder/category thatthe memory point currentlyexists in.

3. Select the List screen button.

4. Select the memory point to edit.Use the sort feature to sort bydistance, icon, name, or date asneeded.

5. Touch the Category screenbutton from the EDIT MEMORYPOINT screen.

6. Touch the new folder/categorybutton you want to move thememory point to.The system displays a messageconfirming the move.

To modify the position of the storedpoint:

6. Touch the map to move theposition of the memory point.

7. Touch OK when you have movedthe memory point to theappropriate location.

8. The system returns to the EDITMEMORY POINT screen anddisplays the new address,longitude, and latitude for thechanged memory point.

To change the phone number of amemory point:

1. Touch the Memory Points screenbutton from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the folder/category thatthe memory point exists in.

3. Select the List screen button.

4. Select the memory point to edit.Use the sort feature to sort bydistance, icon, name, or date asneeded.

5. Touch the Tel. (telephone)screen button from the EDITMEMORY POINT screen.

6. Use the numeric keypad tochange the phone number.

7. Touch OK to store the changedphone number.

To delete a memory point:

1. Touch the Memory Points screenbutton from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the folder/category thatthe memory point exists in.

3. Select the Delete screen button.

4. Select the memory point todelete from the DELETE POINTscreen. Use the sort featureto sort by distance, icon, nameor date as needed.

5. The system displays the mapscreen with the position addressand a pop-up confirmationmessage. Select Yes to deletethe point; select No to return tothe DELETE POINTS screen andnot delete the point.

To delete all of the memory pointsin a folder/category:1. Touch the Memory Points screen

confirmation message. SelectYes to delete all the points inthe folder/category; select No tocancel the operation.

To change the name of thefolder/category:1. Touch the Memory Points screen

button from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Select the desired folder/category.

3. Select the Edit Category screenbutton.

4. Use the alpha keypad to changethe name of the folder/category.

5. Touch the OK screen button tosave the changes.

Avoid Area

3 Avoid Area: This feature letsyou store an area to be avoidedwhile planning a route. Up to10 points can be stored.

To store an avoid area point:

1. Touch the Avoid Area screenbutton from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Touch the Add screen buttonfrom the AVOID AREA screen.

If desired, reduce or enlarge thearea around the point you wantto avoid by using the Reduceor Enlarge screen buttons.It is recommended that whenavoiding locations on freeways,you reduce the avoid area tothe minimum scale. Thisproduces an X on the map ratherthan a box. This ensures thatthe system knows you wantto avoid the freeway itself, notnecessarily the area aroundthe freeway.

Waypoints can be addedbefore or after entering a finaldestination. Waypoints that wereentered prior to setting a finaldestination, will delete if a finaldestination has not been entered.Up to five points can be stored aswaypoints.

To add a waypoint:

To change the order of thewaypoints:

1. Touch the Dest. & Way Pt.screen button from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Touch the List screen button fromthe DEST. & WAY POINT screen.

3. From the CHANGE ORDERscreen, select on the addresses,in the order you would like them tofall on the route. After selectingthe address line, a number,indicating the order, appearsnext to the corresponding row.

4. Select OK to save the changes.The system returns to theSTORED LOCATIONS screen.

To change the location of a waypoint:

1. Touch the Dest. & Way Pt.screen button from the STOREDLOCATIONS screen.

2. Touch the List screen button fromthe DEST. & WAY POINT screen.

3. Touch the Chg. Loc. screenbutton from the CHANGEORDER screen.

1. Select the C Quick POISelection screen button fromthe NAVIGATION SET UP menu.This screen displays the list ofPOI categories.

2. Select the POI category thatyou would like to change.The category to change displayswith the list of categories toselect from.

Select the All Category Listscreen button to displayall categories andsub-categories.

3. Select a different POI category.The POI category icon tochange is replaced with the newPOI category icon at the topof the screen. This POI is nowavailable on the Q-POI screen.

Quick POI

Once categories have been selectedon the Q-POI SELECTION screen,the POI categories are now availableon the Quick POI screen. From thisscreen you can select the POI iconsthat you would like to display on themap screen. You can either select aPOI for a final destination or as awaypoint. The Quick POI screen isavailable when the scale is 1⁄2 mile(1 km) or less.

A list of allof the local POIs within a 5 mi.(8 km) radius of your vehicle’scurrent position will display.This list is generated from thePOI categories that have beenselected and appear at the topof the QUICK POI screen.Use the Sort by Dist. (distance),Icon, Name, or Route screenbuttons. Use the up and downscroll arrow screen buttons toscroll through the list.

2. Select the POI. The map screendisplays with the scroll symbolaround the selected POI.

The name and the POIinformation will also display onthe map screen.

3. Select the h (destination)symbol screen button.

4. Select the Guide screen button.See “Getting Started on YourRoute” for more information.

All Category List: This screenbutton appears once the ListCategories screen button has beenselected. Press this screen buttonto display a list of sub-categories.

Show: Select this screen button todisplay the map screen.

Delete: To delete a category, doone of the following:

• To delete the last added POIcategory, select the Deletescreen button.

Calibration

5 Calibration: Touch this screenbutton from the NAVIGATION SETUP screen. This feature lets yourecalibrate the navigation system.

The Calibration screen, lets theadjustment of your vehicle’s positionor the vehicle speed signal.

To correct the position of yourvehicle on the map (for example, ifyour vehicle has been shipped)or to change to the current position.

1. Select the Position/Directionscreen button.The map screen displays withthe vehicle’s current position.

2. To change the vehicle’s position,touch the map screen.Use the zoom in/out functionto view the direction of thedesired area.Pressing/holding and draggingon the map activates fastscrolling. Press/touch once onthe area where the currentposition mark should be moved.

3. Touch the OK screen buttononce the vehicle is in thecurrent position.If a route had already been set,the map screen displays, selectGuide to change your route to thevehicle’s new position.

Once the process of changingthe vehicle’s current positionis complete, the map screendisplays with rotate arrow screenbuttons around the vehicle.

4. To change the direction of yourvehicle, press either arrowscreen button to turn the vehicleto the correct direction.

5. Once the vehicle is facing thecorrect direction, select theOK screen button.

If there are tire pressure differencesor a spare tire is installed, the systemautomatically re-calibrates thesystem but it may take longer.To calibrate the vehicle speed signal,touch the Distance screen button.See Vehicle Positioning on page 74for more information.

Road Restriction Warnings:Instructs the system to notify youwhen the current route hastraffic restrictions.

Arrival Time G (Time of Arrival):Displays the estimated time ofarrival to the destination.

Arrival Time \ (Time toDestination): Displays the amountof drive time estimated to arrive atthe destination.

Guidance Screen: Turns theguidance screen on and off.

Freeway Information: Displaysfreeway exit information. This isonly available on freeways duringroute guidance.

Restore System Defaults

D Restore System Defaults:Select this feature from theNAVIGATION SET UP screento change all adjustable systemsettings to factory defaults.

OK: Select this screen button torestore the system defaults.

Average Speed Default: Selectthis option to set the average speedto default. The system monitorsthe speed on different roads andupdates the vehicle’s average speed.This average speed is used tocalculate the time it takes to reachthe destination when a routeis set.

Search Condition

H Search Condition (SearchCondition): This feature accessesthe SEARCH CONDITION screen.

The search condition screen lets youview your current destination andto change the planning methodsbetween each destination. Eachdistance between waypoints andfinal destination can have anindividual setting.

From this screen, you can select a1 mile, 3 mile, or 5 mile detour orselect to detour the whole route.After selecting the detour, the systemcalculates the alternate route andt henew route displays on the mapscreen.

Route Preferences

F Route Pref. (RoutePreferences): You can select tohave certain types of roads/ferriesincluded in your route. See “GettingStarted on Your Route” under EnterDestination on page 32 for moreinformation.

The following route preferences canbe selected on or off:

c (Allow Major Roads):This feature lets the system useexpressways when calculating aroute. If there is no way to reachyour destination without using majorroads, the system automaticallyincludes major roads.

l (Allow Time Restricted Road):This feature lets the system use timerestricted roads when calculating aroute. These are roads that may beclosed during the winter season.

If any of these features are turnedoff, the button is dark and there is ared slash through the icon on themap screen.

Destination and Waypoint

o Dest. & Way Pt. (Destinationand Waypoint): This feature letsyou edit the selected destinationand waypoints using this screen.See “Dest. and Way Pt. (Destinationand Way Point)” under StoredLocations on page 46 for informationon storing destinations andwaypoints.

Up to five waypoints and onedestination can be entered. Thefollowing functions are available:

Add: This button accessesthe Store Dest. & Waypoint screen.A waypoint can be added or thedestination can be changed.

Delete/Del. All: These buttons letyou delete waypoints on the route ordelete the entire route.

9 Display route: Select this buttonfrom the ROUTE OPTIONS menu toview the entire route. The start pointand destination, the time it takes toreach the destination, and distance,including the distance that is routedon each road type will display.

Turn List: Edit the route byselecting the Turn List screenbutton. A list of every turn onthe route displays. With the turnlist displayed, you can selectto avoid streets/turns on the route.

Avoid: To avoid a street, select theAvoid screen button next to the turn.To cancel the avoided turn, selectAvoid again to deselect it.

Reroute: After selections havebeen made, press the Reroutescreen button to replan the route.

Delete: To cancel an avoided turnafter the route has been replanned,press the Delete screen button. A listof all of the avoided turns display.Select the street that you want to addback to the route. A confirmationwindow displays. Select Yes to havethe avoided street added back to theroute. The Turn List screen displays.

Del. All (Delete All): To cancel all ofthe avoided turns after the route hasbeen replanned, press the Deletescreen button. A list of all of theavoided turns display. Select theDel. All screen button. A confirmationwindow displays. Select Yes to haveall of the avoided streets added backto the route. The Turn List screendisplays.

Route Preview

G Route Preview: Select thisbutton from the ROUTE OPTIONSmenu to preview the entire routein either direction and to editthe route.

Use the screen buttons at thebottom of the navigation screen tomove through the route.

bt (Skip to Start Point): Touchthis screen button to skip backwardto the start point, the previouswaypoint, or the previous availablePOI, depending on the modeselected.

uh (Skip to Destination): Touchthis screen button to skip forwardto the destination, next waypointor next available POI, dependingon the mode selected.

Edit: Touch this screen button tochange the way the skip/scrollfunction operates. Select to havethe skip/scroll go to the startpoint/destination or to the nextavailable POI or waypoint.

To next Dest. (Destination) orWP (Waypoint): Select this buttonto have the skip/scroll functionsskip/scroll to the next destinationor waypoint.

To next POI: To select this option,a POI category must be selected.Select this button to have theskip/scroll functions skip/scroll to thenext available POI for the category.To change the POI category, touchthe corresponding screen button nextto the category. Head-Up Display (HUD)When a route is planned theHead-Up Display (HUD) will displayinformation when the vehicle isapproaching a turn. This informationdisplays when the vehicle is 0.5 mi.(.80 km) away from a turn inresidential areas and 2.0 mi. or2.0 km away from a turn onfreeways.

A. Directional Arrow — Displays thedirection of the next turn.

B. Distance Bar — This willdecrease as the vehicleapproaches the turn.

C. Street Name Line — Displaysthe name of the street that youwill be turning on.

D. Mile/Kilometer Scale — Indicatesthe scale of the distance bar.The scale is 0.5 mi. (.80 km) inresidential areas and 2.0 mi.or 2.0 km on freeways.This value changes as youapproach the turn.

After completing a turn, the HUDdisplays the name and distance ofthe next street you are turning on for10 seconds.

When HUD is displaying theturn-by-turn guidance information,the vehicle’s shift lever gear doesnot display in the HUD. The geardisplays on the Driver InformationCenter (DIC) screen. Once thedestination has been reached orguidance is cancelled, the HUDdisplays the gear information again.See Head-Up Display (HUD) in theIndex of your vehicle’s owner manualfor more information.

The maps are stored on aDVD-ROM. The 48 contiguousUnited States and portions ofCanada are contained on two discs.To minimize the necessity ofchanging the discs, both map discscover US6, US7, and Canada.

Installing the DVD Map Disc

Your dealer/retailer may haveinstalled the map DVD. If the mapDVD was not installed, do thefollowing to load it:

Read the following steps completelybefore operating this feature.

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. Push the Z (open/closefaceplate) button and thefaceplate opens.

3. Load the map DVD into the DVDslot by inserting it partway.The system pulls it in.

4. Wait until the DVD is loadedproperly and then push theZ (open/close faceplate) buttonto close the faceplate.

Once the map DVD is insertedcorrectly, the system displays theCAUTION screen.

Agree: Touch this screen button toproceed to the navigation system.

The map appears showing yourcurrent vehicle position.

DVD Map Disc MessagesIf an error displays and/or the mapdisc comes out, it could be forone of the following reasons:

• If the map disc was installed intothe CD slot. See “Installing theDVD Map Disc” previously.

• It is very hot, when thetemperature returns to normal,the map disc should play.

• You are driving on a very roughroad. When the road becomessmoother, the map discshould play.

• The map disc is dirty, scratched,wet, or upside down.

If any error occurs repeatedly or ifan error cannot be corrected,contact your dealer/retailer.

Ejecting the DVD Map DiscWhen the DVD map disc is notloaded, you are not able to use thenavigation portion of the system.

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. Push the X (open/closefaceplate) button and thefaceplate opens.

3. Press the X DVD key, locatednext to the bottom slot. Thedisc ejects.

4. Wait until the DVD is ejectedproperly and then push theX (open/close faceplate) buttonto close the faceplate.

Handling the DVD Map DiscWhen handling the DVD mapdisc, be careful of the following:

• Handle the disc very carefully toavoid contamination or flaws.Signals may not read out properlyif the disc gets contaminatedor flawed.

• If the disc gets soiled, use a softcloth to gently wipe it out fromthe center of the disc to theoutside. Do not use photographicrecord cleaner, solvents, orother cleaners.

• Do not use the disc to rest onwhile writing or drawing usingany writing utensil or attacha seal to any of the sides orthe disc.

• Do not keep the disc in directsunlight, high temperatures,or humidity.

• After using the disc, place it backinto the original case.

Setting the Search AreaSee Enter Destination on page 32for information on changing thesearch area.

Map AdjustmentsThe system lets you adjust the scaleof view on the map. Also, as youdrive, the map scrolls automaticallybased on the direction you aretraveling.

Map Scales

To view a larger or smaller scaleof the map, touch the map scalearrows.

Change the level of map detail byeither zooming in or zooming outusing the arrow screen buttons orby touching the scale on the bar.

The system adjusts the mapaccordingly. The scale of a map canrange from 1/32 of a mile (0.05 km)to 128 miles (256 km).

Scrolling the Map

Touch anywhere on the map screentwice and the scroll symbol appears.Use this feature to scroll acrossthe map.

If scrolling while the vehicle is inP (Park), the system scrolls initiallyat a slower rate. Continue totouch the map screen to increasethe scrolling speed.

If scrolling while the vehicle is inmotion, the system will scroll to thatlocation and stop.

If you have used the scroll featureto scroll the map and if the vehicleicon becomes lost, press the NAV(navigation) hard key to return to thecurrent vehicle location on the map.

Use the scroll feature on the map toset a destination. See “Map”under Enter Destination on page 32for more information.

Navigation SymbolsThe following symbols are the mostcommon symbols that appear ona map screen.

The vehicle is shown as thissymbol. It shows the position anddirection the vehicle is movingon the map.

This symbol marks the finaldestination of the planned route.

This symbol appears on the map fora planned waypoint.

The waypoint symbol is numberedfrom 1 through 5 depending onhow many waypoints have been set.

This symbol indicates the distance tothe final destination. It only appearswhen the time symbol does notappear.

This symbol indicates the distanceand the estimated time remaining tothe final destination or arrival time,depending on the option selected.

See Navigation Set Up on page 55for more information.

This symbol shows the straight-linedistance to the final destination.

This symbol may appear beforestarting to drive on the route or if ona road where navigation guidancecannot be given. See DatabaseCoverage Explanations on page 76for more information.

While in North Up mode, North isalways at the top of the map screenregardless of which direction thevehicle is traveling. Touch thisscreen symbol to switch betweenNorth Up and Heading Up modes.

This Heading Up mode symbolindicates the map with the vehicletravel direction up.

The shaded triangle indicates theNorth direction. While in Heading Upmode, the direction the vehicle istraveling is always at the top of themap screen. The vehicle icon isalways headed in the direction thevehicle is traveling. Touch thisscreen symbol to switch betweenHeading Up and North Up modes.

This symbol appears in the upperright corner when the vehicle isnot receiving a Global PositioningSystem (GPS) satellite signal.

When a name is too long to bedisplayed, an arrow symbol appears.Touch the right or left arrowscreen button to scroll through theentire name.

Select the single map mode todisplay more of the map with awindow that gives the direction anddistance to the upcoming maneuver.

Select the dual view symbol todisplay two map screens that allowdifferent scale levels and headingdirection for each window.

Touch anywhere inside the rightscreen and the EDIT RIGHTSCREEN screen displays. Change

the scale level, 2D and 3D view,and to turn the POIs on and off.To change the heading direction,touch the north up or heading upsymbol.

Select the turn list symbol to displaythe next three upcoming maneuverson the map screen when onroute guidance.

Directional arrows, street name, anddistance to the next turn displays.When approaching the next turn, thesystem automatically displays azoomed-in view of the upcomingmaneuver.

Select this symbol to display onlythe next maneuver along witha small map of the maneuver.

When approaching the nextmaneuver, the system displays aguidance window of the maneuver.This option can be turned off bythe USER SETTINGS screen.

Select the highway guidance symbolto display highway guidance onthe map screen.

The upcoming exit number, distanceto the exit, available POIs at theexit, and a window with the directionand distance to the next maneuverdisplays.

Use the up and down arrows toscroll through the list. To view theavailable POIs for an exit, select theexit, then select the Map screenbutton.

The system displays highwayguidance any time you have aplanned route on a highway orfreeway. To turn this feature off,see “User Settings” under NavigationSet Up on page 55 for moreinformation.

Auto RerouteWhen a destination has been setbut the vehicle is off of the plannedroute, the system automaticallyplans a new route. The new route ishighlighted on the screen.

Traveling Across RegionsWhen driving through regions, themap screen updates to displaythe current location. To plana destination in a different region,the region must be changed for themap DVD to access the correctinformation.

1. Change the selected region inthe search area when closerto the destination. See EnterDestination on page 32.

2. Change the selected region inthe search area when enteringthe destination and routesettings. See Enter Destinationon page 32.For example, if you weretraveling from Michigan toFlorida, make sure that Floridais included on the selectedregion. Enter a destination inFlorida under the ENTERDESTINATION menu.

Navigation MenuPress the NAV hard key to accessthe map screen. Press the MENUtouch screen button on the mapscreen.

All of the navigation system featurescan be accessed from this screen.

Global PositioningSystem (GPS)The navigation system determinesthe position of your vehicle byusing satellite signals, variousvehicle signals, and map data.

At times, other interferences suchas the satellite condition, roadconfiguration, the condition of thevehicle and/or other circumstancescan interfere with the navigationsystem’s ability to determinethe accurate position of the vehicle.

The GPS shows the current positionof your vehicle using signals sent bythe GPS Satellites of the UnitedStates Department of Defense.When your vehicle is not receivingsignals from the satellites, a symbolappears on the map screen. Refer toNavigation Symbols on page 68.

This system may not be available orinterferences may occur if any ofthe following are true:

• Signals are obstructed by tallbuildings, trees, large trucks,or a tunnel.

• Objects are located on the rearshelf of the vehicle.

• Satellites are being repaired orimproved.

• After-market glass tinting hasbeen applied to the vehicle’srear windshield.

Notice: Do not apply after-marketglass tinting to the vehicle’swindows. Glass tinting interfereswith the system’s ability toreceive GPS signals and causesthe system to malfunction.The window might have to bereplaced to correct the problem.This would not be covered bythe warranty.

For more information if the GPS isnot functioning properly, seeProblems with Route Guidance onpage 75 and If the SystemNeeds Service on page 75.

Vehicle PositioningAt times, the position of the vehicleon the map may be inaccuratedue to one or more of the followingreasons:

• The road system has changed.

• The vehicle is driving on slipperyroad surfaces such as in sand,gravel and/or snow.

• The vehicle is traveling onwinding roads.

• The vehicle is on a longstraight road.

• The vehicle is approaching a tallbuilding or a large vehicle.

• The surface streets run parallelto a freeway.

• The vehicle has just beentransferred by a vehicle carrier ora ferry.

• The current position calibration isset incorrectly.

• The vehicle is traveling at highspeed.

• The vehicle changes directionsmore than once, or when thevehicle is turning on a turn tablein a parking lot.

• The vehicle is entering and/orexiting a parking lot, garageor a lot with a roof.

• The GPS signal is not received.

• A roof carrier is installed onyour vehicle.

• The vehicle is equipped with tirechains.

• The tires are replaced.

• The tire pressure for your tires isincorrect.

• The tires are worn.

• The first time the map DVD isinserted.

• The battery is disconnected forseveral days.

• The vehicle is driving in heavytraffic where driving is at lowspeeds, and the vehicle isstopped and started repeatedly.

If any of those problems occur,the system may need to bere-calibrated. This could be due totire pressure differences, or if aspare tire is installed. To calibratethe system, see Navigation SetUp on page 55.

Problems with RouteGuidanceInappropriate route guidance canoccur under one or more of thefollowing conditions:

• A turn was made that was not onthe route.

• Route guidance may not beavailable when using automaticrerouting for the next right orleft turn.

• The route may not be changedwhen using automatic rerouting.

• There is no route guidance whenturning at an intersection.

• Plural names of places may beannounced occasionally.

• It may take a long time tooperate automatic reroutingduring high-speed driving.

• Automatic rerouting may displaya route returning to the setwaypoint if you are heading fora destination without passingthrough a set waypoint.

• The route prohibits the entry of avehicle due to a regulation bytime or season or any otherregulation which may be given.

• Some routes may not besearched.

• The route to the destination maynot be shown if there are newroads, if roads have recentlychanged or if certain roads arenot listed on the map DVD.See Ordering Map DVDson page 76.

Odering Map DVDsThe map DVD in the vehicle isthe most up-to-date informationavailable when your vehiclewas produced. The map DVD isupdated periodically, provided thatthe map information has changed.

For questions about the operation ofthe navigation system or the updateprocess, contact the GM Nav DiscCenter toll-free phone number,1-877-NAV-DISC (1-877-628-3472)or go to the center’s website,gmnavdisc.com. To update orreplace a disc, call the GM Nav DiscCenter or order a new disc online.Have the Vehicle IdentificationNumber (VIN) available whenordering. This ensures that youreceive the correct and mostup-to-date DVD map disc for yourvehicle. See “Vehicle IdentificationNumber (VIN)” in the Index of yourvehicle’s owner manual for moreinformation.

After receiving the updated disc,replace the old disc in the navigationsystem. See “Installing the DVDMap Disc” and “Ejecting theDVD Map Disc” under Maps onpage 66. Dispose of the old disc toavoid confusion about whichdisc is the most current.

Database CoverageExplanationsCoverage area depends upon themap detail available. Some areashave greater map detail than others.The navigation system works only aswell as the information provided onthe map disc. See Ordering MapDVDs on page 76 on how to obtainupdated map information.

Voice RecognitionThe navigation system’s voicerecognition allows for hands-freeoperation of navigation and audiosystem features. Voice recognitioncan be used when the ignition is onor in ACC/ACCESSORY or whenRetained Accessory Power (RAP) isactive.

This feature only works if the mapDVD is inserted. If you try to usevoice recognition without the mapDVD inserted, the system displays“Please insert the navigation mapDVD to use the voice recognitionfeature.” See “Installing the DVDMap Disc” under Maps on page 66.

The system may not hear you ormay hear the incorrect word with thewindows open or the convertibletop down due to background noise.

To use voice recognition:

1. Push and hold g until a beep isheard. The audio system mutes.This button is located on theleft side of the navigation systemfaceplate.

2. Clearly state one of thecommands listed on the followingpages. For example, say “FM1.”

3. The system states the commandbeing implemented. For example,the system says “FM1 Radio”and the audio system changesto the FM1 source.

You may end voice recognition bynot speaking any commands.After about five seconds of silence,the system automatically cancelsvoice recognition.

At times, the system may notunderstand a spoken command.If this happens, try again. If a spokencommand is not available, thesystem provides feedback based onavailability.

While using voice recognition, makesure to keep interior noise levelsto a minimum. Otherwise, thesystem might not recognize voicecommands.

The system only recognizescommands spoken in English.

Voice Recognition CommandsThe following list shows all of thevoice commands available for thenavigation system with a briefdescription of each. Any wordsshown in square brackets areoptional. If there are words shownin parentheses, choose one ofthe options. To use the voicecommands, refer to the instructionslisted previously.

Help Commands

These commands are universaland enable you to use the helpprompts available from the system.

Command Help/List: Enables thesystem to provide the availablecommands for the navigation radio.

Cancel: Cancels the voicerecognition function.

Radio Commands

Radio: Changes the audio systemto the next radio audio source.

AM: Changes the audio system tothe AM audio source.

FM1: Changes the audio system tothe FM1 audio source.

FM2: Changes the audio system tothe FM2 audio source.

XM1: Changes the audio system tothe XM1 audio source.

XM2: Changes the audio system tothe XM2 audio source.

CD Player Commands

Track Up: The CD player skips tothe next track.

Previous Track: The CD playergoes to the previous track.

Track Down: The CD player goesto the beginning of the track or goesto the previous track if the track haselapsed nine seconds.

Screen Commands

Screen Day Mode, Day ModeOn: Adjusts the system’s screensetting to the day mode.

Screen Night Mode, Night ModeOn: Adjusts the system’s screensetting to the night mode.

Screen Auto Mode, Auto ModeOn: Adjusts the system’s screensetting to auto mode.

Screen Off: Turns the system’sscreen display off.

Position Commands

Current Position, CurrentLocation, Show Current Position,Show Current Location: Thesecommands will display the vehicle’scurrent location on the map screen.

Map: The system displays the mapscreen.

Zoom In: The system zooms inwhen on the map screen.

Right Map Zoom In: The systemzooms in on the right map whenin dual map mode.

Right Map Zoom In (Maximum/Minimum Scale): The systemzooms in to the minimum availablemap scale on the right map when indual map mode.

Right Map Zoom Out: The systemzooms out on the right map whenin dual map mode.

Right Map Zoom Out (Maximum/Maximum Scale): The systemzooms out to the maximum availablemap scale on the right map when indual map mode.

Destination Commands

Home, Go Home: The systementers the Home destination as awaypoint or final destination, ifa home destination has been stored.

Go to Starting Point, PreviousStarting Point: The system entersthe last available starting pointas a waypoint or final destination.

[Go to] Previous Destination: Thesystem enters the last availabledestination as a waypoint orfinal destination, if one is available.

[Go to] Preset Destination[Number] (number): The systemgoes to the preset destinationnumber. This preset destinationcan be chosen as a waypoint or adestination. There must be a locationstored in the preset destinationnumber that is chosen. For example,first store a location in PresetDestination 3. Say “Go to PresetDestination 3.” The system goes toPreset Destination 3 and promptyou to choose it as a waypoint ordestination.

Add [to] Waypoint: The systemadds the current marked point as awaypoint. This command is usedafter the following commands havebeen used: Home, Go to StartingPoint, Go to Previous Destination.

Enter Destination: The systemadds the current marked point as thefinal destination. This command isused after the following commandshave been used: Home, Go toStarting Point, Go to PreviousDestination.

Guidance Commands

Repeat Guidance, Repeat Voice:The system repeats the lastavailable voice prompt guidancecommand if a destination hasbeen set.

Louder: The system increases thevolume of the navigation voiceprompts.

Softer: The system decreasesthe volume of the navigation voiceprompts.

Voice Guidance Off: The systemturns off the navigation voiceprompts if a destination hasbeen set.

Voice Guidance On: The systemturns on the navigation voiceprompts.

[Change to] Arrow (Guide/Guidance): The system changes toArrow Guidance screen view in theGuidance Menu if a destination hasbeen set.

[Change to] Turn List (Guide/Guidance): The system changes toTurn List Guidance screen view inthe Guidance Menu if a destinationhas been set.

[Change to] Freeway (Guide/Guidance): The system changes toFreeway Guidance screen view inthe Guidance Menu if a destinationhas been set. This command is onlyavailable if you are on a freeway.

[Change to] Intersection (Guide/Guidance): The system changes toIntersection Guidance screen view inthe Guidance Menu if a destinationhas been set. This command is onlyavailable when the next turn is lessthan 0.5 mile (800 m) away for citystreets and 2 miles (2 km) away forfreeways.

Entire Route, Entire Rout Map,Route Overview: The systemdisplays the entire route if adestination has been set.

Reroute: The system generates analternate route to a set destinationwhile on a planned route.

Detour, Detour Entire Route: Thesystem activates the detour featurewhen driving a planned route.

Next Waypoint Map: The systemdisplays the map view of thenext waypoint location if one hasbeen set.
