PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The 2016 golf season has concluded. We began the year with the members

voting for new Officers and a new Executive Committee. Our office relocated

from Broomall to King of Prussia and Laura Hammond was engaged as the new

Executive Director for our Association. We consist of 93 clubs and 1914

members.

Congratulations to Philadelphia Cricket Club who won first place in the

Philadelphia Cup!

Our website continues to improve and every effort is being made to give current

and accurate information about our tournaments and open days. We encourage

volunteers to help at our tournaments and expect to implement a system that

would allow you to sign up a few days prior to the tournament date.

Over the past season we have been reaching out to clubs who are out of the 30

mile radius, encouraging them to become members and play in our tournaments.

Because of the radius limit, they would not be eligible to participate in our team

matches, but an effort has been made to help these clubs organize teams

among themselves and enjoy the sportsmanship that matches offer.

This year the Inter-City Matches were conducted at The Boston Golf Club in

Hingham, Mass. Our Captain was Liz Haines from Merion. The scores were:

MA – 54.5 NY – 28 PHILA – 25.5

The Junior Inter-City Matches were played at Commonwealth CC. The scores

were: NY – 18 PHILA – 16 MA - 11

It is my privilege to list the Champions for 2016:

Match Play Champion Ashley Cassidy, Commonwealth Junior Champion Rylie Heflin, Hartefeld Junior-Junior Champion Sunshine Gu, Yardley Class B Champion Sandy Buckus, Applecross Class C Champion Donna Kane Pearson, Old York Rd Class D Champion Andrea McNamara, North Hills Farnum Cup Kerry Rutan, Philadelphia Cricket Silver Cross Catherine Elliott, Merion Tournament of Champions Samantha Perotta, Old York CC

It has been a privilege and an honor to work with you, the members, and my

wonderful committee this past year. We all have the same goal for the WGAP.

That is to enjoy the game of golf and to preserve the history of our organization

as we know it and to continue to progress with the times. This has been an epic

year. I would like to thank you for your trust and support in leading this amazing

organization and I look forward to the 2017 Season.
