Dear McGehee Family,

The 2010-2011 school year was tremendously rewarding. We made enormous strides in our development program thanks to the extraordinary generosity of every member of the McGehee family.

Between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011,Annual Giving this year reached $594,000 and there were many significant milestones in this campaign:

Alumnae Annual Giving achieved 43% participation, an unprecedented participation rate in the nation. In the pages of this report you will see charts demonstrating how the loyalty of McGehee alumnae far outstrips that of our sister schools.

Each and every one of the incredible roster of educators assembled at McGehee’s made a gift to Faculty Giving, achieving 100% participation, an historic accomplishment.

Parent Annual Giving continued to see substantial growth with $293,000 raised and 92% participation. We are on track to surpass these figures by a healthy margin in the 2011-2012 school year.

We are also in the process of shaping the future as our Centennial year opens with a Centennial Capital Campaign. In less than one year we have raised $3,500,000 toward our goal of $7,000,000. An integral part of the campaign was the naming of 2328 St. Charles Avenue in memory of Abby Shaw Nalty ’17. Led by Mathilde Villere Currence ’89 and Richard Currence, $1,000,000 was raised to honor Abby. The building has become affectionately known as “Abby Hall”.

Most importantly we are extremely proud of the large and growing number of volunteers who join together to make giving at McGehee possible. Their vision, wisdom and determination help us achieve a rich daily experience for every girl and faculty member on campus. More than 200 volunteers work with faculty, alumnae and parent Annual Giving and the Centennial Campaign. In May, we celebrated McGehee’s extraordinary volunteer leadership with a beautiful party hosted by Roland and Mary von Kurna-towski, parents of Mary Grace ’22.

Finally, it is our pleasure to thank you, our donors, who commit yourselves tirelessly to the school. Your dedication to McGehee is unsurpassed and your generosity has brought the school to new heights as we approach our second century. Our gratitude to you is immense.

Faculty Annual Giving at 100%!Our record-breaking achievement of 100% Faculty Giving is an extraordinary accomplishment for McGehee. A special thanks to our faculty leaders: Paula Fletcher; Jeanne Bendana; Dan Orth and Noel Waddington.

Please be aware that while many schools nationwide claim 100% faculty participation we can assure you that this is done with smoke and mirrors and not real gifts i.e. a small gift is deducted from each paycheck at the beginning of the year as part of the faculty’s contractual obligations. McGehee’s has never subscribed to this practice as it seems false.

We are often asked, why is 100% faculty participation an important goal?

1. A privilege to appreciate – and to perpetuate. McGehee is a family community of students, teachers and parents who share a commitment to the mission and values of the education provided here. It is a privilege for all of us to be a part of this community and with the privilege comes the responsibility to ensure that the school continues to flourish.

2. Faculty engagement generates added support. Philanthropy today has a very strong measurement criteria and faculty giving is an important indicator. The highest level of faculty participation can directly influence a potential donor’s decision to invest in McGehee.

3. Those individuals who have the added benefit of being faculty parents receive a generous tuition remission. Only McGehee and one other local independent school provide this important benefit. The Board of Trustees especially looks to this group to give back to the school by participating in Annual Giving.

McGehee has achieved its remarkable success through our faculty. Each of our faculty members brings a passion for his/her discipline, a commitment to and a belief in the power of education and a desire to involve thesmselves deeply in the lives of the young people in our care. The hard work they put forth on a daily basis makes McGehee such a remarkable school. The gifts that come in throughout

the year from parents, grandpar-ents, alumnae and friends are all in direct response to faculty excellence: a faculty member who has taken extra time with a stu-dent who is struggling; a faculty member who is always accessible to parents seeking advice; a faculty member who is a cheerleader to promising students and pushes them to take risks and achieve more than they dreamed possible.

When we hold alumnae gather-ings across the country, one theme always emerges: stories of beloved faculty members who believed in their potential to accomplish any goal.
