Membership and program registration can be done by visiting the Welcome Centre (located in the concourse of the alumni Hall & Physical recreation Centre) any weekday, 6:00 am to  11:00 pm or saturday and sunday, 7:00 am to 11:00 pm;  by phone (613-520-4480) using Visa or MasterCard or online at carleton.ca/athletics. our website registration has state-of-the-art security.

swim only Membershipavoid paying the adult Public swim fee each time you come for a swim. gain quick access to the locker room, showers and swimming pool, by taking advantage of our new 12 month swim only membership. swim only Members can also sign in up to (4) children (under 14) for a free swim.

senior couples MembershipFor spouses over the age of 60, enjoy access to the facilities from 9 am to noon and 1 pm to 4 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends. Discount of 25% over our individual adult membership price.

Family Membershipaffordably-priced membership for two adults and two youths (14 to 18 years of age), residing at the same residential address.

this membership package entitles you to an additional 10% discount off the program fee on fitness and recreational programs (some conditions apply).

Winter Walking MembershipFor only $25 per month you can escape winter and benefit from a carefree walk in our spacious Fieldhouse. this facility boast a 230-metre climate controlled indoor jogging/walking track.

Guest PrivilegesDay guests: non-members may purchase access to the Pool and Fitness Centre by purchasing a day pass at the Welcome Centre in alumni Hall and signing our standard informed consent/waiver form. Use your receipt (one only) towards the purchase of a membership.

adults: $12.00 (+ Hst)  non-Carleton students (proof of iD): $8.00 (+ Hst).  non-refundable.

any athletics staff member has the right to revoke membership or program privileges at any time due to breach of regulations, abuse of privileges, or inappropriate behaviour. the Department also declines any responsibility for accidents and loss or theft of personal belongings.

Facilitiesthe facilities include a 50-metre l-shaped indoor pool, the ice House twin-pad ice arena, the Fitness Centre, a Fitness testing laboratory, six squash courts, five tennis courts, sports fields, the ravens’ nest triple gymnasium, the norm Fenn gymnasium, several activity rooms, the Fieldhouse with artificial turf fields and jogging track. all facilities are available to rent for sport and special events. the Welcome Centre is the main check-in point when entering the facilities. note: Program/membership prices, facility hours and facility access subject to change. Users must carry a valid iD card with them at all times when using the facility (with the exception of the swimming pool).

Fitness centRethe Fitness Centre is equipped with cardiovascular machines, weight training machines, and free weights. to protect the privacy and enjoyment of our patrons, no cell phones or cameras allowed.

boots, crocs, sandals or outdoor shoes;•  no bare feet at any time, socks on the mats are permitted;•  shirts must be worn at all tiMes, please change shirts or 

clothing in the locker room;•  shirts with offensive wording are prohibited;•  no backpacks or bags allowed

Fitness Appraisal and counsellingget a smart start to a fitness program or re-evaluate your existing one. our fitness appraisers design safe and effec-tive personal programs. the evaluation includes a bicycle or treadmill test for aerobic fitness, strength and flexibility measurements, and a body composition analysis. (90 minutes)

our Fitness evaluation lab is an accredited Fitness ap-praisal Centre through the Canadian society for exercise science (CseP). all our testing personnel are certified through CseP.

Fees: $75 + Hst 

note: there is no student discount for this program. all ap-pointment cancellations require at least 24 hour notice unless an emergency (documented) arises. Failure to provide cancel-lation notice will result in forfeiting the registration fee.

Personal training servicesexperience the benefits of one-on-one instruction. Your instructor will develop a physical activity program to meet your individual needs and then teach it to you step-by-step. register in the office and and a trainer will contact you to arrange a mutually convenient time. 

Fees:initial 90-minute session:   $  75 Follow-up 60-minute sessions:   $  57 Couples initial 120-minute session:   $130 Couples 60-min:   $  70 set of 5 follow-up sessions:   15% discount

sWiMMinG Pool our 50-metre l-shaped pool has a diving area with a platform diving tower, 1-meter springboard, a slide, a bubbler and a swing rope. the pool has a flow-over-edge design that facilitates getting in and out of the water. the high ceiling, excellent ven-tilation and natural light make this pool a pleasure to use. the water is usually 28°C or 82°F. the pool is supervised by quali-fied, professional and caring lifeguards / aquatic instructors.

Carleton University students, faculty, staff and members are welcome to all swims listed at no charge. 

all swims open to the public.

all groups larger than (8) MUst book in advance. CU students, faculty, staff and members can sign in up to (4) children for free. 

Children under (14) MUst be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older. Direct supervision is required throughout the facility, in locker rooms and in pool area. one adult is required to supervise every two children less than 7 years of age.

Water running (deep end) is available during all (whole pool or deep end) recreational & Fitness swims.

the Pool is scheduled to be closeD for an annual maintenance & repair shutdown, from Fri april 15 (6:00 PM) to Mon May 2, 2011 (6:00 aM). Please check website for details.

the Fieldhouse has two 53-metre by 26-metre cross fields and a 230-metre jogging track. the fields may be rented  (contact (613) 520-2101).

ice hoUseopen year round: rentals, leagues, specials events, tourna-ments. the ice House has two nHl-style rinks with large dressing rooms and the best ice in the city. For more informa-tion about the ice House please contact arena Manager at 613-520-2101 or [email protected]

sQUAsh coURtsFull Members may book a one-hour court for $4+Hst from 7:00 am (8:30 am on weekends) to last booking at 9:30 pm (6:30 pm weekends). Courts may be booked up to seven days in advance either in person or by phone (613-520-5655). From May 1 to august 31, squash courts are not available from 9:30 to 3:30 due to summer Camps and recreational school days.

tennis coURtstennis court bookings can be made by contacting tony Milo tennis academy, 613-526-9777, or in person at the clubhouse adjacent to the tennis courts. there is no membership required (court fees will apply).

lockersthe lockers at the Physical recreation Centre are for daily use, as there is only a limited number of rental lockers available per term. Users who fail to remove their belongings before the end of the day in a daily locker will have their belongings confiscated and have 10 days to claim their items at the Welcome Centre Desk. note: a $15 handling fee will be levied. if the items are not claimed within 10 days they will be sorted and sent to Campus safety.

Parkingthe Department of recreation and athletics is pleased to announce that free parking is now available in lot 5 from 6 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 11 pm to all external community members who purchase a one-year membership. Please visit the Welcome Centre to obtain your permit. in addition, special rates are available to all external community members requiring parking. You can purchase your permit at the Welcome Centre desk. Parking is free on saturday and sunday.

Facility closures:the Fieldhouse and ravens’ nest will be closed november 11 to 14, 2010 and June 4 to 11, 2011 for Convocation and December 9 to 22, 2010 and april 7 to 21, 2011 for exams. the Fieldhouse and Cardio room are closed from May 1 – august 31, 2011.

holiday hours – For up-to-date information on holiday closures and reduced hours of operation please visit the website at:  www.carleton.ca/athletics/facilities/hours-of-operation/

Annual repairs and renovations – the department schedules the bulk of its renovations and repairs in late april and early May. Major renovations may require extended shutdowns.

Please check the website for updates or contact the Welcome Centre for details at 613-520-5655. Membership fees are adjusted accordingly.

Refunds & cancellationsCarleton University staff and faculty have access privileges if they have a valid University i.D. card.

notes: Prices and membership categories subject to change. 

all members must check in at the Welcome Centre with their valid i.D. card upon entry. if you do not have proper i.D. you will not be allowed to access the facility. 

Refundsrefunds will be issued in the original payment method. For payments made by personal cheque refunds will take up to fourteen (14) days.

note: in all refund cases, the online convenience fee is non-refundable.

Program Refund – before course begins:if notification is received five business days prior to the start of the course, participants may receive their choice of:1.  a refund, less an administrative fee of $25 or 10% of the 

registration fee whichever is greater;2.  an account credit, less $10 administrative fee; 3.  a switch from program to program, less a $10 

administration fee, remainder on account credit note: credit is given to a participant on his/her account, to be used as cash toward any future program, membership or service at Carleton athletics.

Program Refund – after a course beginsif participants request a refund after the course begins due to an injury/illness, move out of the city or a death in the family, they may receive their choice of:1.  a refund - subtract any course materials, and from 

the remaining course fee, subtract the portion of the course up to the time of injury/illness, and subtract $25 administration fee; or 

2.  an account credit - subtract any course materials, and from the remaining course fee, subtract the portion of the course up to the time of injury/illness, and subtract $10 administration fee.  note: a medical or death certificate or proof of move from employer is required.

Program cancellations in the event the Department must cancel a program, all regis-tered participants for that program will receive a refund of the full course fee with no administrative fee. the online registra-tion convenience fee is non-refundable. 

note: individual classes during the session may be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control. Make up classes will be offered when possible. Compensation or refunds will be given only for complete course cancellations.

Membership refundsCancellation of memberships is only permitted in case of injury, death, or move out of the city. accompanying documentation is required. refunds are prorated to the date of withdrawal. the remainder will be refunded, less a $25 administrative fee.

Bands and Bunsthis class targets the inner and outer thigh, buttock, abdominal and back muscles using the exer-Bands and other equipment. this class is great for people who get a lot of aerobic activity, but not enough toning for the tummy, back and hip area!

Fitness For Mature AdultsBoomer Fitnessresearch shows great benefits for adults from weight lifting. this is especially relevant for adults of the ‘Boomer’ generation as muscle size and strength declines rapidly after 55 years causing loss of functional capacity. as we age, the body’s ability to construct new protein slows and our body begins to break down faster than it can rebuild itself. Consequently, we lose muscle tissue and gain body fat. a proper resistance-training program can prevent the lean tissue declines seen in sedentary individuals. some muscle tissue and strength loss can be reversed in a very short period. Weight lifting builds muscle and strength safely, and improves movement ability. if you are a Boomer, this course is for you, combining lectures with exercise sessions. the objective is to teach you how to lift weights effectively and safely in a fitness club or at home. each session includes 1 hour lecture and 1 hour exercise.

the activity sessions include: leadership skills, proper exercise technique, and weight lifting techniques. Candidates must then pass a written exam, serve an apprenticeship and demonstrate on-the-floor leadership competence to earn a certificate and be eligible to be a Carleton University Fitness Centre/Cardio room supervisor.

March Break sports campa fun and friendly sports camp to keep kids occupied and active during March Break. the aim of this camp is to provide boys and girls daily instruction and participation in a wide range of sports including: badminton, basketball, european handball, dodgeball, fencing, field hockey, soccer, squash, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball and water games. other activities may include arts and crafts, co-operative games, and tennis. the sports Camps makes use of the full range of Carleton University’s modern Physical recreation Centre, including:  the ravens’ nest, Fieldhouse, 50m l-shaped swimming pool with diving well, squash courts, multipurpose and combatives rooms, tennis bubble, and the norm Fenn gymnasium. the registration fee includes a t-shirt, a daily lunch and daily recreational swim.
