The Shelby County Senior Picnic is scheduled May 20 from 9 to 1 p.m. at the Shelby County Airport. See the flyer of the back for details. Tours of the National Weather Bureau, at the airport, will be available. Vehicles from the National Guard and Shelby County Sherriff will be on display along with aircraft housed at the airport. A miniature display of World War II will be exhibited. Thirty vendors will be available to share their services and answer questions. We are still waiting for confirmation about a National Guard helicopter display. Confirm your group’s reservation number by May 6 (call 670-5770).

Note volunteer opportunities are featured each week in the Shelby County Reporter. RSVP in Shelby County has over 100 volunteer opportunities available. For those who are 54 and under, Shelby County offers Shelby Volunteers in Service. Shelby County volunteer opportunities are also available online through www.handsonbirmingham.org or through the Shelby County website, www.shelbycountyalabama.com.

The services of your volunteers fill many gaps in services to non-profit agencies within Shelby County. During the past year our Shelby County volunteers have served 155,640 hours which equates to over $3 million in value to the stations/agencies they serve. These are service hours that keep many of these agencies going and able to meet the needs of their mission because they are unable to function without your help. The agencies, Shelby County, Positive Maturity, RSVP, and I cannot thank you enough for the time you donate to this effort. We have grown to over 100 volunteer stations and averaging 16,000 service hours per month.
