    Girl Scout Groups are financed by dues, money earningactivities, and a share of money

    earnedthroughcouncilsponsoredproductsaleactivities.GirlScoutDaisiesmaybeinvolved

    in councilsponsored product sale activities only, and not collectmoney in any otherway

    exceptthroughgroupduesorparentalcontributions.(AmendedbyGSUSABoard6/15/2008.)

    Groupmoneyearningreferstoactivities followingaplannedbudgetandcarriedoutbyagirl/adult

    partnership, for the purpose of earning money for the group treasury. Councilsponsored product

    salesarecouncilwidesalesofauthorizedproducts,suchasGirlScoutCookies,calendars,magazines,

    nuts,andcandy.

    ThefundscollectedareforGirlScoutactivitiesandarenottoberetainedbyindividualsastheirpersonal

    property. Girls can, however, be awarded sales incentives and/or credits to apply to Girl Scout

    merchandiseand/oractivities.

    Girlsparticipationingroupmoneyearningprojectsorcouncilsponsoredproductsaleactivitiesisbased

    uponthefollowing:

    However, girls may contribute a portion of their group treasury to organizations or projects they

    consider worthwhile (for example, local or international community service organizations or

    environmentalprojects)iftheyhavefundsthatarenotneededforactivitiesduringtheyear.

    Encourage girls to designate a portion of their group treasury for the annual membership dues of

    members.This isasoundandefficientpracticethatbothenablesgirlstomeetmembershipduesand

    CouncilSponsoredGirlScoutProductSaleActivities

    Girlscanparticipateinnomorethantwocouncilsponsoredproductsaleactivitieseachyear,

    and only one of these may be a cookie sale. The percentage of money allocated to

    participatinggroups

    is

    determined

    by

    the

    council

    and

    is

    explained

    to

    girls

    and

    adults

    as

    part

    of the product sale activity orientation. Girl Scout Daisies may participate in council

    sponsored product sales in girl/adult partnership as part of the Girl Scout Leadership

    Experience.(AmendedbyGSUSABoard6/15/2008.)ThesellingofGirlScoutCookiesorothercouncilsponsoredproductsisanintegralpartoftheGirlScout

    LeadershipExperience,builtaroundfinancialliteracy.Girlsalsolearntosetgoals,budget,plan,market

    toothers,workasateam,anddevelopotherskillsnecessarytoasuccessfulsaleactivity.Adultsservein

    asupportingrolebutshouldneverassumesoleresponsibilityforsales.Refertotheactivitycheckpoints

    for"GirlScoutCookie/CouncilSponsoredProductSaleActivities."

    All girl members may participate in councilsponsored product sales activities, under volunteer

    supervision.Councils

    set

    guidelines

    and

    establish

    procedures

    for

    conducting

    the

    sale

    and

    determining

    how the proceeds and recognition system will be managed. Councils also provide training on the

    procedures to follow, throughacascading staffandvolunteereffort.Adultsmustmonitor, supervise,

    and guide the sale activities of all age levels. Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors must be

    accompaniedbyanadultatalltimes.GirlScoutCadettes,Seniors,andAmbassadorswhoparticipatein

    doortodoorsalesmustbesupervisedbyanadult.Allgirlsusethebuddysystematalltimes.

    Adultvolunteers,girls,andtheirfamiliesshouldunderstandhowcookieproceedsareused,sothatthey

    canexplain this to thepublic.Parentsandguardiansgrantpermission forgirls toparticipateandare

    informedaboutthegirls'whereaboutswhentheyareengagedinproductsaleactivities.

    Thecouncilretainssomeoftheproceedsresultingfromproductsalestosupportprogramactivitiesand

    participationofallregisteredGirlScouts. Incomefromproductsalesdoesnotbecomethepropertyof

    individual girlmembers.Girls are, however, eligible for incentives and cookie credits if their council

    offersthem.

    Whenselling,girlsshouldbe identifiableasGirlScoutsbywearingaMembershipPin,officialuniform,

    uniformcomponent,orGirlScoutclothing.

    Moneydueforsoldproductsshouldbecollectedwhentheproductsaredeliveredtothecustomeroras

    directedbytheGirlScoutcouncil.Personalcustomerinformationshouldremainprivate.Inparticular,

    customercreditcardinformationobtainedatboothsalesorothereventsshouldnotbeheldor

    collectedonpaperbygirls.

    BasicOnlineGuidanceforProductSalesGirls can use email and ageappropriate Internet functions as onlinemarketing tools to let family,

    friends,andformercustomersknowaboutthesaleandcollectindicationsofinterest.

    Guidelines for online product sales include use of parentally supervised email and texting as a

    marketingtool,and/oruseofacustomercommitmenttool(suchasanecardorblindemailprovided

    byproduct

    vendors)

    to

    communicate

    with

    family,

    friends,

    and

    former

    customers.

    Product related email is not intended to be spam (unwanted email). Girls or their parents

    should not broadcast emails to parental membership lists or placeofemployment email

    directories.

    GirlsortheirparentsorathirdpartymaynotacceptpaymentforGirlScoutproducttobesoldby

    girlsonline,withtheexceptionofGirlScoutmagazinevendors.

    Customeremailaddressesfromcurrentandpastyearsshouldbetreatedwithrespect,andgirls

    shouldbeinstructedonprivacyissues.

    AsaGirl

    Scout,

    girls

    must

    never:

    Useorpostapersonalemail,personalstreetaddress,orphonenumberonasite.Instead,usea

    blindemailprovidedbyGSUSAapprovedvendors,agroupemailaddress,oranemailaddress

    sharedbyanadult)

    Take orders from prospective customers outside of the councils Zip code. Refer an online

    prospectfromoutsidethecouncilsZIPcodetowww.girlscoutcookies.orgtofindalocalcouncil

    thatcandelivercookieorders.

    TheGirlScoutcouncilshouldhaveasysteminplacethatinstructsgirlshowtofollowupandbeinvolved

    when GSUSA referrals are sent to the council from girlscoutcookies.org. Any referrals via

    girlscoutcookies.orgorothercookie findersrelated toZIPcodesshouldbe fulfilledbyandcredited to

    girls.Remember

    that

    Girl

    Scout

    councils

    do

    not

    sell

    cookies;

    girls

    sell

    cookies.

    GirlsmuststicktocouncilZIPcodesassalesterritoryunlesstheircouncilmakesspecificarrangements

    thatareagreed towithadjacentcouncils (suchasa regionalmall sharedbycouncilcustomers).Even

    within a councils ZIP code, however, girls and their parents or guardians must be willing to make

    deliveryarrangements.GirlsmayalsoselltorelativesoutsideofacouncilZIPcode.

    OnlineSocialNetworkingSitesAnyuseofasocialnetworking site (suchasFacebook,Twitter,MySpace,YouTube,Flickr) forGirl

    guidelines and have Girl Scout photo release forms signed by parents/guardians and any adults

    pictured.Itisrecommendedthatformsbescannedandstoredelectronicallybytheadultincharge

    and/orthecouncil.

    CouncilSponsoredProductSaleAwards

    Groupsand individualsmay choose toearn councilproduct sale awards.Awardsareprogram

    relatedandofatypethatwillprovideopportunitiesforgirlstoparticipateinGirlScoutactivities.

    GirlsmayearnofficialGirlScoutageappropriateawardsrelatedtoproductsaleactivitiesasapart

    oftheGirlScoutLeadershipExperience.Inaddition,eachcouncilmaychoosetoprovideparticipants

    items suchasparticipationpatches, salesawards,and council credit for camperships,event fees,

    daycamp fees,grants fortravelandTakeActionprojects,andmaterialsandsupplies forprogram

    activitiesto

    participants.

    Thecouncilplanforrecognitionappliesequallytoallgirlsparticipating intheproductsaleactivity.

    Whereatallpossible,councilsshould involvegirls intheselectionofawardsandadministrationof

    moneygiven to girls fromproduct sales (suchasanapplicationprocess forgrants for leadership

    projectsortravelships).

    Writtenpermission isobtained from a girl'sparentor guardianbefore the girlparticipates in a

    councilproduct

    Specific

    permission

    must

    be

    given

    for

    agirls

    use

    of

    the

    Internet

    for

    product

    marketing. A parent, guardian, or other adult must know each girl's whereabouts when she is

    engagedinproductsales,andifandwhensheisinvolvedontheInternet.

    Girlsmayusephonesandemailmessagestoalertfriendsandrelativestoproductsalesandaccept

    customer commitments as mail or call backs for the Girl Scout Cookie sale. Girl Scout cookie

    productpartnersareproviding secure sites forgirluse.Girlswhoare13orovermayuse social

    networking sites to market product; however, they must follow their councils and GSUSA

    guidelines.

    Girlswritingnotesforrecipientsofproductemailsorannouncementsonlineshouldsignwiththeir

    firstnameonly, their troop/groupnumberorname,and theircouncilname.Personalemailsor

    streetaddressesofgirlsshouldneverbeused.Instead,useoneofthefollowing:

    Ablindreturnaddressaccountwherethegirlsnameorpersonalemail isnotrevealedto

    thecustomerand is insteadhostedonasecuresite(suchasprovidedbyourproductsale

    partners)

    OrderTakingandSelling TheGirlScoutCookieandotherproductsaleactivitiesaregirlled.Parentsandguardiansshould

    receiveinformation

    their

    girls

    sale

    charge

    and

    the

    council.Adultsmayassist,butcannotsellGirlScoutproducts.

    Adultsmustprovidesupervisionandguidanceforallagelevels.AdultsmustaccompanyGirlScout

    GirlScoutsshouldobservecounciljurisdiction(byZIPcodes)whenmarketingproductinpersonor

    online. Prospects that come from outside counciljurisdiction should be referred to the council

    finderatwww.girlscoutcookies.org.Girl Scouts shouldobserve counciljurisdictionswhen selling

    cookiesin

    Girls learn and practice personal protection skills as outlined in GSUSA and vendorprovided

    activitymaterials.Forexample:

    A designated adults telephone number and/or group email overseen by an adult is

    given for reorders or complaints; a girl does not give out her telephone number or

    personalemail.

    Girl Scout Cookies and Girl Scouts are trademarked by Girl Scouts of the USA and

    cannotbeusedtoendorseproductsorservices.AnyquestionsregardingtheuseofGirl

    ScoutCookiesor thenameGirlScoutsmustbeaddressed to theGirlScoutcouncilor

    TheGirl Scoutname,GirlScoutCookiesandGirlScoutmarks,aswellaspicturesofGirl Scout
