The Event

On September 17th and 18th, MBCC will bring to the Twin Cities a cultural education concert, “Being Branded”, to generate awareness around the branding that minorities have had in their past and to stimulate individuals to move beyond those stereotypes.

This cultural event will start with a pre-concert reception at 6:00 p.m.; performance at 7:30 p.m.; and post-concert discussion at 9 p.m. at the *University of Minnesota - Ridder Ice Arena.

*The concert and reception venue was made possible through the support of the Office for Business & Community Economic Development (U of M), Minnesota State Arts Board, Midwest Minority Supplier Development Council, American Family, Xcel Energy

Impact

This cultural education project is a modern dance/figure skating fusion concert. The choreographic work that comprises the concert focuses on the toxic belief systems that an oppressive history has “branded” in the minds and psyches of many individuals of minority descent.

The concert provides a forum through which communities, businesses, students and individuals can identify and better understand this “branding”, address the need to move beyond this detrimental thinking and collaborate among our communities to bring about success for all. A pre- and post-survey will be administered to evaluate the impact.

Small Biz Support

MBCC believes that this concert and discussion will be the beginning of a journey for us to improve our professional and personal lives.

This project presents the opportunity to stimulate business continuation during these tough economic times. MBCC will hire minority-owned businesses to provide the graphic design, printing, catering, photography, videography, music, and floral services. MBCC has hired minority professional skaters, choreographer, and production coordinator to present this important concert.
