Happy New Year! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as your 2009 President. I hope you are as excited as I am to help

make 2009 a successful year for all of us. I am very fortunate to be working with an outstanding group of leaders and association partners. I know together we will have a great year.

The market for 2009 will certainly be an interesting one. Our market changes are more dynamic and frequent then ever before. In order to succeed for 2009 you need to work hard, make smart business decisions, and align yourself with the best tools through technology and education.

During our annual Strategic Leadership Retreat, the teams developed our 2009 Strategic Plan. We spent many hours learning and discussing current industry, market and professional trends at the national, regional and state levels. Although these goals are not the newest ideas sometimes the basic principles are a strong foundation at where to begin. Here are some highlights of the Plan, including our new Mission Statement:

“We are an association of real estate professionals dedicated to the success of our members, while adding value to the community.”

• Enhancing Member Profitability• Enhancing REALTOR® Partnerships• Provide for the Professional Development of

our Members and Staff• Improve Communication

Our primary focus was to reinforce the value and worth of our membership and coming up with ideals and strategies to help members achieve their financial and professional goals.

Our Young Professionals Network with the help of our 2009 chair Andrey Bustamante is looking to have another fantastic year. Check out there new website at www.YPNonline.org. Look out for the 2009 schedule of events and come out and support this energetic group.

We have some great events planned for 2009, and they could not be done without the support of our Affiliates. We would like to encourage our Realtors® to recommend your favorite affiliate to get involved at the association. Make sure you keep abreast of what’s going on by checking out the calendar online at www.OsceolaRealtors.org. Sign-up to sponsor an event by calling the Association at (407) 846-0117.

We recently had our first Central Florida International Alliance social event, which was a Pot-Luck Christmas Dinner. It was a great success, and we had over 30 dishes cooked by members that reflected their culture. The turnout was high and we had our own Santa, Carlos ThurdeKoos, our Christmas Elf, Maria ThurdeKoos, and was hosted by Abby Barboza, Chairperson of the CFIA Committee. Look for more wonderful and exciting events from this committee this year! If you are interested in joining any Association Committees, visit our website at www.OsceolaRealtors.org and click on the “Join a Committee” icon on the bottom left side of the home page.

Mid-Florida Regional Multiple Listing Services (MFRMLS) has some exciting things going on. MFRMLS recently launched a consumer facing website. This consumer website gives people the most dynamic and easy to use listing search on the internet. Check out the sight and let us know what you think www.MyFloridaHomesMLS.com.

Remember to mark your calendars for every Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. for the MLS Marketing Meetings. If you know of an interesting speaker that you think could benefit our members, please contact Gwen Dukes at the Association so that we can schedule them to come and speak at a meeting.

I wish everyone the best of luck for success for 2009. As always, the association leaders and the staff are here to serve our members. If you have any ideas or needs please do not ever hesitate to contact me at (407)-256-7698 or [email protected]

So long 2008. We welcome 2009 with enthusiasm. In the year 2009 we are embarking on another great year for REALTOR® Education with classes such as Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac Loans, Core Law, Effective Marketing and Short Sales to name a few. The Association has put together a catalog outlining the Continuing Education classes for 2009. This catalog can be found at the Association, as well on the web site under “Education”. All of the Continuing Education classes in the catalog are free. A savings of up to $35.00 each. Again, there are a variety of topics and the best FAR instructors in the business ready to teach you what you need to know.

If you are a REALTOR® who has renewed your license at least once, remember that according to DBPR you must have 11 Specialty hours and 3 Core Law hours. If you are a new REALTOR® and have not renewed your license before, you must complete the 45 hour post-licensing course required by the State of Florida.

You can check what DBPR requires you to complete by going onto their web site at www.myfloridalicense.com and click on “View My Continuing Education”.

Please remember that all registrations go through our web site, www.osceolarealtors.org. Just click on “Member login’ and from there you will see the Education Calendar. Detailed registration instructions can be found both on the web site as well as the 2009 Education Catalog.

Last year the Association offered two very successful GRI courses: GRI 1 and GRI 3. This year the Association is offering GRI 1 in March and GRI 2 in May. This is a perfect opportunity for you to earn this prestigious designation, but to fulfill your post-licensing requirements if necessary. GRI 1, Standards of Practice, qualifies for Sales Post-Licensing and GRI 2, Essential Real Estate Techniques, qualifies for 30 hours of the Broker Post-Licensing.

I would like to thank Mary Cooper of Goodwin Realty for volunteering her time and becoming your 2009 Education chair.

DID YOU KNOW?

We typically have many members that show up for a class and say that they registered for the class but their name is not on the Sign-In Sheet. Please make

sure that you go all the way through the process until you see a page that says “Print your receipt”. It is not completed until you see this page that signals you are registered.

The steps for registering for a class online are listed below. All registrations for educational classes go through the website:

1. Go to www.osceolarealtors.org2. Click on “Member Login”3. Enter your log on ID

(this is your NRDS/MLS ID)4. Enter your password5. Click on “Education Calendar”6. Register for all the classes you would like7. Print your Receipt. It is not completed

until you see this page that signals you are registered. ■

TRANSFER FEES

Sales Associates who transfer from one Osceola Broker to another Osceola Broker, there is a $50.00 Transfer Fee. The $50.00 fee must be paid at the time of transfer before your REALTOR®/MLS records are updated accordingly. This fee does not apply to Inner-Office Transfers (i.e…Sales Associates who stay with the same Osceola Broker, but transfer to another office location under the jurisdiction of that same Osceola Broker). This fee does not apply to new members transferring from another Association as they pay an application fee.

If you are considering transferring your license to another Broker, please consider the following:

• Before transferring your license, determine if your new Broker is a REALTOR® MLS member, and, if so, which Association(s) the new Broker belongs to;

• If your new Broker in consideration is not a REALTOR®, or MLS member, you will lose all privileges of REALTOR®/MLS membership (i.e. MLS, SUPRA Key, FAR, NAR website access, and your services will be suspended);

• If your new Broker is not an Osceola member, you will probably have to join the new Broker’s Association and additional REALTOR® and/or MLS fees may apply, and your SUPRA Key may or may not be transferable.

If you are transferring your license to another Osceola Broker, simply get us a copy of the FREC 2050 form or online records and pay your $50.00 Transfer Fee. You can fax your FREC 2050 form to us at (407) 846-0217 and/or you can pay your $50.00 Transfer Fee over the phone using a Visa/MasterCard. We can then mail/fax you a receipt at the time of payment. Transfer Fees are not chargeable to the Broker’s Account. However, if desired, a Broker can call us to put a Visa/Master credit card on file for future transfer fees.

If you have any questions regarding transfers, please feel free to call us at (407) 846-0117. ■

2009 is here and we are ready for it!—especially with your help and support.

We began the year with a bang with the Awards and Installation Banquet at Harmony on January 10. What a great evening! I want to thank all the members who helped out, as well as our sponsors. With Sean Ferguson, President, at the helm, it should be a banner year.

Our committees are starting out strong. Make sure you read the weekly eView that Gwen Dukes distributes every Friday to keep up on the upcoming meetings. You can also always go to our website calendar to see upcoming meetings, classes and events—as well as register for all of them.

The following committees have set standing committee meetings for the year, with a few exceptions here and there. Again, keep reading the eView to keep up-to-date on the meetings. They are:

Property Management Network headed by Chair, Riva Alexander, and Vice Chair, Minetta Garay, will meet the 2nd Monday of each month from 9:00-11:00 a.m. They are planning a lot of informational topics and guest speakers.

Hispanic Network headed by Chair, Jose Alvarez, and Vice Chair, Alexandra Arena-Gil, will meet the 2nd Tuesday of the month, immediately following the MLS Marketing Meeting, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Public Policy Committee headed by Chair, Tim Weisheyer, and Vice Chair, Daisy Cid, will meet the 1st Monday of each month from 3:00-4:00 p.m.

Affiliates Council headed by Chair, Debbie Henderson, will meet the 1st Tuesday of each month, immediately following the MLS Marketing Meeting, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Young Professionals Network headed by Chair, Andrey Bustamante, and Vice Chair, Veronica Malolos, will continue with the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6:30-9:30 p.m. for their “Get Togethers”. All locations will be announced in the eView.

Knowledge Services Team headed by Chair, Mary Cooper, will meet the 3rd Tuesday, as needed, of each month, immediately following the MLS Marketing Meeting, from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Please sign up to join the committees of your choice. There are other committees besides the ones listed above. Their meeting dates will be announced as we learn of them. Go to our website, come into the

Association, or email me to join the committees of your choice. If there are things you’d like to see happen, then we need your feedback, support and help to implement them. If you don’t tell us, we won’t know. Become involved with the committees.
