Your commitment and contributions to the school of Education have helped continue the school’s tradition of excellence as a national leader in inclusive urban education. Despite these difficult economic times, our school has had an outstanding year, rich with faculty and student achievement, national and international recognition for our scholarly and community work, and increased support for undergraduate and graduate learners, leading to an impressive and diverse population of students at all levels and in all disciplines. In this year’s Honor roll, we recognize a special group who responded to the emergency appeal for undergraduate financial aid, syracuse responds. More than 20 students at the school of Education received this emergency support and were able to continue their studies without interruption.

Already in 2009-10 we have launched our fifth season of Landscape of Urban Education Lecture Series and will continue to host exciting lectures in partnership with the University Lectures and Syracuse Symposium. This past spring and summer, the school of Education hosted the Disability studies in Education Conference, the say Yes summer Institute, and the facilitated Communication summer Institute; launched the Annual summer leadership Institute; offered a new summer College course in education for high school students; and co-sponsored scholarly events here and abroad (Australia, China, finland, Japan, Kenya, Thailand). We have welcomed eight outstanding scholars to the ranks of our tenure-track faculty, and are pleased to support our entire faculty in their travel to national and international conferences as they present their research and accept appointments in their respective national professional organizations. Your support helped make this happen and more.

We continue in our commitment to technological advances in the classroom both here at the school of Education and in our partnerships with local school districts. our dedication to global citizenship and educational access continues through our expanding centers and institutes, including the say Yes to Education program, which attracted Vice President Joseph Biden and two members of the President’s Cabinet to syracuse earlier this fall for a panel discussion on college access for the middle class.

We look forward to sharing our work with you on a newly re-designed web site, with improved recruitment information for prospective students, enhanced multimedia features, and robust news and events content for alumni and friends. In addition, our new monthly online e-Exchange newsletters will keep you up-to-date with the latest news and happenings at the school.
