Secretary-Treasurer Report1) Financial situation

Based on balances at Jan. 1 2008/2009, there was a very modest surplus of $298, leaving our balance at $10,299. The expenses were a $150 contribution to the TRIUMF stuff at the 2008 congress, and $782 for rather disappointing lunches at the business meeting. Revenue was $1230 from 123 full memberships ($10 ea).

However this is a bit misleading as the 2008 DNP prize cheque was not cut ($750) until 2009 and will show up as a charge for the 2009 year. Also, DNP is supporting a plenary speaker at this year’s Congress. This will be a pretty big hit. I predict about a $800 deficit for this year.

In previous years I pointed out that these ups and downs" from activities like plenary speakers and from the thesis prize. The trends are sustainable.

2) Membership

As of April 2009 DNP had 167 members -- 123 full, 44 student, compared to 121 full and 41 students last year. So that is stable.

3) Election

Both Chair-Elect and Secretary-Treasurer positions are vacant -- Chair-Electby the natural accession of Kumar Sharma to chair, Secretary-Treasurer because Greg agreed to step aside if *anyone* expressed an interest to take over.

There were two nominees for each position: Jens Dilling and Jeff Martin forchair-elect, and Barry Davids and Rob Pywell for Secretary-Treasurer. E-mail ballots were distributed to the membership about two weeks ago, and the e-mail poll closed ant 5:00 pm PDT on Friday, June 5.

Secretary-Treasurer Report

Fifty ballots were returned. Four were from people who did not have current DNP memberships. One was incorrectly filled out. On the remaining 45 valid ballots, there were two cases (one for each position) where the voter only selected a candidate for one position. That's fine.

The resulting counts are as follows:

Secretary Treasurer: Barry Davids, 25 votes: Rob Pywell, 19 Votes. Davids wins.

Chair Elect: Jens Dilling 26 votes: Jeff Martin, 18 votes. Dilling wins.

4) Final thoughts

It's been fun doing this for past four years. Thanks.Oh yeah, and if we're going to keep doing lunches -- let's order in pizza.
