Getting StartedBefore you begin to operate the navigation system,read this manual thoroughly to become familiar withit and to understand how thesystem works.Keeping your mind on the drive is important forsafe driving. See “Defensive Driving” in the Index ofyour vehicle’s owner manual for more information.Get familiar with your vehicle’s navigation systemso you can use it with less effort and take fulladvantage of its features. Your navigation systemincludes not only navigation, but also audiofunctions. While your vehicle is parked:• Familiarize yourself with all of its controls: hard

keys on the faceplate and touch-sensitivescreen buttons.

• Familiarize yourself with its operation.• Set up your audio by presetting your favorite

stations, setting the tone, and adjusting thespeakers. Then, when driving conditionspermit, you can tune to your favorite stationsusing the presets and steering wheel controls,if the vehicle has them.

• Set up the navigation features that can only bedone before you begin driving, such as enteringan address or a preset destination.

Entering a destination or alphanumeric textrequires many steps, so you can only performthese operations when the vehicle is in PARK (P).You will notice that touch-sensitive screen buttonsleading to the alphanumeric keyboard are dimmedout while driving.Other functions may also be locked out whiledriving and they too will appear grayed out on thescreen — but all functions are available whenparked. Some functions can be performed whiledriving, as long as you can do so without divertingtoo much of your attention from your driving.

{CAUTION:

This system provides you with a far greateraccess to audio stations and song listings.Giving extended attention to entertainmenttasks while driving can cause a crash andyou or others can be injured or killed.Always keep your eyes on the road andyour mind on the drive — avoid engagingin extended searching while driving.

Looking at the moving map on thenavigation screen frequently or for toolong while driving can cause a crash andyou or others can be injured or killed.Keep your eyes and mind on the road andavoid looking too long or too often at themoving map on the navigation screen.Use the voice guidance directionswhenever possible.

The navigation system allows you to:

• Plan a route with provided turn-by-turn routeand map guidance with voice prompts.

• Select a destination using various methodsand choices.

• Receive RDS broadcast announcements.

The information in the system may not always becomplete. Road conditions such as prohibitedturns, detours, and construction zones, changefrequently. It is important to consider whether youcan follow the directions given by the systemfor the current conditions.

Every fifty times the vehicle is started and thenavigation system is turned on, the Caution screenwill appear. After reading the caution, select OK toload the map DVD information. If OK is notselected, all hard keys except for NAV (Navigation)and DEST (Destination) can be accessed. You canalso press the NAV hard key to have this Cautionscreen appear.

When getting started you may set the navigationsystem to your preference using various options.To do so, reference the following topics:

Language — English/Metric UnitsTo change the language of the navigation screens,see “Driver Information Center, DIC VehicleCustomization” in the Index of your vehicle’sowner manual.

To change the navigation screens from Englishor metric, see “Driver Information Center, DICControls and Displays” in the Index of yourvehicle’s owner manual.

Storing Radio Station PresetsTo set preset radio stations:

1. Press theO (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

2. Press the AUDIO hard key and select thedesired band (AM, FM1, FM2, XM1, orXM2 (if equipped)).

3. Use the f (tune) knob or the SEEK arrows togo to the desired station.

4. Press and hold one of the five preset screenbuttons, at the bottom of the screen, until youhear a beep or see the station displayedon the selected preset button.

5. Repeat the steps for each preset.

Setting the TimeTo set the time:

1. Press theO (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

2. Press the MENU key to enter the configuremenu options, then press the MENU keyrepeatedly until the time is selected or selectthe time screen button.

3. Press the Set screen button.

4. Press the Hours and Minutes − (minus)and + (plus) signs to decrease or to increasethe time.

See “Setting the Time” under Configure Menu onpage 45 for more information.

Entering an Address and Point ofInterest, and Storing PresetDestinationsEntering an AddressTo enter a destination by entering the city namefirst:

1. If the radio is already on with a map discinserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press theO (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 19 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Select the OK screenbutton to proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Select the 2 Address Entry screen button.

7. Select the state/province screen button,if needed, to change the current state orprovince. Enter the name or enter thetwo-letter abbreviation. A list will displayor select the List screen button and selectthe state or province.

8. Select the City name button and start enteringthe city name.If five or less names are available, a list willdisplay. If more than five are available, the Listscreen button will have a number in it thatrepresents the number of available cities.Select this button to view the list and selecta city.

9. Once a city has been selected the Streetname category will automatically be selectedfor entry.Do not enter directional information or streettype. Use the space symbol screen button( U ) between street or city names. Forexample, the street name N. Royal Oak Rd.should be entered as royal U oak. Use thebackspace ( V ) screen button if an incorrectcharacter has been entered.

If five or less streets are available for theselected city, the system will display the list ofstreets. If more than five streets are availablethe system will display the alpha keyboard.Start entering the street name. If five or lessnames are available, a list will display. Ifmore than five are available, the List screenbutton will have a number in it that representsthe number of available streets. Select thisbutton to view the list and select a street.

10. Once a street has been selected, select theHouse # screen button to enter the housenumber. The system will display the housenumber range that is available for the street.

11. Select the Go screen button. A map screen,with the destination marked, will appear.

12. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

13. Select the Start Guidance screen button.You are now ready to start your route.

Entering a Point of Interest (POI)To set a destination by entering a Point ofInterest (POI):

1. If the radio is already on with a map discinserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press theO (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

4. A caution may appear. Select the OK screenbutton to proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Select the i Point of Interest screen button.

7. Select the state/province screen button,if needed, to change the current state orprovince. Enter the name or enter thetwo-letter abbreviation. A list will display orselect the List screen button and selectthe state or province.

8. Enter the specific title of the POI in the POIname space (i.e. Washington Monument).If five or less names are available, a list willdisplay. If more than five are available, the Listscreen button will have a number in it, itrepresents the number of available POIs.Select this button to view the list.

9. Select the Go screen button next to the POI.A map screen, with the destination marked,will appear.

10. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

11. Select the Start Guidance screen button.You are now ready to start your route.

Storing Preset Destinations1. If the radio is already on with a map disc

inserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press theO (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 19 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Select the OK screenbutton to proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.Enter a destination. See Destination onpage 29 for more information on how to entera destination.

6. Select the Map screen button after enteringthe destination.

7. Select the Mark screen button from the mapscreen to add the current final destination asa preset destination.The address book screen will appear.

8. Select the Name screen button. Analpha-keyboard will display. Enter the name.

9. Press and hold one of the screen buttons atthe bottom of the screen until the nameappears in the screen button on the display.The name will appear in that preset destinationscreen button and is now available to selectfrom the Destination Entry screen. See “UsingYour Stored Preset Destinations” next inthis section to select it as a destination.See “Adding or Changing Preset Destinations”under Destination on page 29 for moreinformation on how to add preset destinations.

Using Your Stored Preset DestinationsThese destinations are available for selectionwhile driving.

1. If the radio is already on with a map discinserted, skip to Step 5.

2. Press theO (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 19 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Select the OK screenbutton to proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Select one of the available preset destinationscreen buttons. A map screen, with thedestination marked, will appear.

7. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

Canceling GuidanceGuidance will be canceled once you arrive at yourfinal destination. To cancel guidance prior toarrival at the final destination:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the Cancel Guidance screen button.

3. A pop-up confirmation will appear. Select OKto cancel guidance or Cancel to cancel therequest.

Guidance VolumeTo adjust the volume of voice guidance prompts:

1. Press the MENU hard key to enter themenu options, then press the MENU keyrepeatedly until Nav is selected or select theNav screen button.

2. Select the Voice Prompt screen button.

3. Select the On screen button if voice guidanceis not on.

4. Select the + (plus) or – (minus) screenbuttons to increase or to decrease the volumeof the voice prompts. The system willrespond with the adjusted voice level.

Turning theO (volume) knob during a voice ornavigation prompt will also change the volume.

Cleaning the Video ScreenWhen cleaning the video screen, use only a softclean cotton cloth dampened with clean water.

Features and Controls

Using the Navigation SystemThis section presents basic information neededto operate the navigation system.

Use the hard keys located on the navigationsystem along with the available touch-sensitivescreen buttons on the navigation screen to operatethe system. See Navigation System Overviewon page 4 for more information.

Once the vehicle is moving, various functions willbe disabled to reduce driver distractions.

Hard KeysThe following hard keys are located on thenavigation system:

O (Power/Volume): Press this knob to turn thesystem on and off. Turn the knob to increaseor decrease the volume to the audio system.

Press and hold this knob for more thantwo seconds to turn off the navigation system,the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE), andRear Seat Audio (RSA). If the vehicle has notbeen turned off, the RSE and the RSA canbe turned back on by pressing this knob andwill continue play of the last active source.

f (Tune/Speaker Adjustment): Press this knobto access the Sound screen to adjust bass,midrange, treble, and equalization. Turn the tuneknob to go to the next or previous radio station.See Navigation Audio System on page 58 for moreinformation.

Z (CD/DVD Eject): Press the eject button toeject CDs and DVDs.

NAV (Navigation): Press this key to view yourvehicle’s current position on the map screen. Eachpress of this key will cycle through Full Map and thetab that displays the current audio source (AM, FM,CD, etc.). Full Map displays the screen in full mapview. Selecting the audio tab will split the screenbetween the map screen and the current audiosource screen menu. See “Audio” under NavigationAudio System on page 58 for more information.

DEST (Destination): Press this key to access theDestination Entry screen to plan a destination.See Destination on page 29 for more information.

RPT (Navigation Repeat): Press this key torepeat the last voice guidance prompt.

FAV (Favorite): Press this key to access thepreset stations. See “Storing Radio StationPresets” under Navigation Audio System onpage 58 for more information.

AUDIO: Press this key to access the full Audioscreen to change AM, FM, XM™ SatelliteRadio Service (if equipped), CD, DVD and auxiliaryinput. See “Audio” under Navigation AudioSystem on page 58 for more information.

MENU: Press this key to adjust features forsound, radio, navigation, the display, and foradjusting the time. See Configure Menu onpage 45 for more information.

¨ SEEK / © SEEK: Press the seek arrows toseek and scan radio stations, to seek trackson a CD, or to seek chapters on a DVD. SeeNavigation Audio System on page 58, CD Playeron page 67, or DVD Player on page 75 formore information.

Touch-Sensitive Screen ButtonsTouch-sensitive screen buttons are located on thescreen. When a screen button has been selected,a beep will sound. Screen buttons are highlightedwhen a feature is available.

Alpha-Numeric KeyboardLetters of the alphabet, symbols, punctuation,and numbers, when available, will display onthe navigation screen as an alpha or numerickeyboard. The alpha keyboard will display whenthe system requires entry of a city or street name.

All characters are touch-sensitive screenbuttons. Touch a character to select it.

A-Y (Accent Alphabet): Select this screen buttonto select letters with accent symbols. This buttonmay toggle to A-Z.

A-Z (Alphabet): Select this screen button toselect letters from the alphabet. This button maytoggle to A-Y.

0-9 (Numbers): Select this screen button toselect numbers.

U (Space): Select the space screen button toenter a space between characters or the wordsof a name.

Backspace: Select the backspace screen buttonif an incorrect character has been selected.

To make name selections easier, the system willonly highlight the characters that can followthe last one entered. For example, if a Z isentered, a T may not be available for selection.

If a name does not display after entry, it may needto be entered differently or the map DVD discmay not contain that information. See DatabaseCoverage Explanations on page 56 for moreinformation.

MapsThis section includes basic information about themap database.

Map CoverageThe maps are stored on a DVD. The UnitedStates, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. VirginIslands are contained on one disc.

Refer to the Navigation System Map Disc manualto view a detailed explanation of map coverageand detailed city lists in each region. This manualwill be inside the map DVD case when thevehicle is delivered from the factory.

Installing the DVD Map DiscWhen your vehicle is delivered from the factory,the dealer/retailer may have installed the mapDVD. If the map DVD was not installed, use thefollowing directions to load it:Read the following steps completely beforeoperating this feature.

1. Turn the ignition on. Your vehicle must be inPARK (P) to perform this operation.

2. Press theO (power) knob to turn thenavigation system on.

3. Press the NAV hard key.

4. Touch the Insert Map Disc screen button. Thescreen will open to access the map DVD slot.

5. Load the map DVD partway into the slot.The system will pull it in.The screen cannot be closed until a doublebeep is heard.

Notice: Pressing directly on the navigationscreen may cause damage. Repairs would notbe covered by your warranty. Do not pressdirectly on the navigation screen.

6. To close the screen, slightly push up on thetwo outer corners until the screen is in position.Then push the screen in by pushing on thefour outer corners until you hear a click.

Ejecting the DVD Map DiscWhen the DVD map disc is not loaded, you willnot be able to use the navigation portion ofthe system.

1. Press the MENU key to enter the Menuoptions, then press the MENU key repeatedlyuntil Nav is selected or touch the Navscreen button.

2. Touch the Map Database Information screenbutton.

3. Touch the Eject Map Disc screen button. Thescreen will tilt, exposing the map DVD slot.

4. Press the eject button, located next to theDVD map disc slot, and the disc will eject.Pull the disc out.The screen cannot be closed until a doublebeep is heard.

Notice: Pressing directly on the navigationscreen may cause damage. Repairs would notbe covered by your warranty. Do not pressdirectly on the navigation screen.

5. To close the screen, slightly push up on thetwo outer corners until the screen is in position.Then push the screen in by pushing on thefour outer corners until you hear a click.

Map AdjustmentsThe system allows you to adjust the scale of viewon the map. Also, as you drive, the map will scrollautomatically based on the direction of travel.

Map Scales

0 / 1 (Zoom In/Zoom Out): Touch the zoom inor out screen buttons or the scale on the bar tochange the level of map detail. The scale willappear on the screen once the zoom in or zoom outscreen buttons are selected. The system will adjustthe map accordingly. The scale of a map can rangefrom 1/32 mi. (50 m) to 256 mi. (400 km). Tochange between English or metric, see “DriverInformation Center, DIC Controls and Displays”in the Index of your vehicle’s owner manual.

Scrolling the Map

Touch anywhere on themap screen and thescroll symbol willappear. Use this featureto scroll across the map.

Move your finger in any direction on the mapscreen and the map will continue to scroll in thatdirection until you remove your finger.

If scrolling while your vehicle is in PARK (P), thesystem will scroll initially at a slower rate. Thescroll speed will increase if you continue touchingthe map screen.

If scrolling while your vehicle is in motion, there isone scroll speed and a limited distance to scroll.You have to keep touching the map screen to scrollfor a longer distance.

If you have used the scroll feature to scroll themap and your vehicle icon becomes lost, press theNAV (Navigation) key to return to the currentvehicle location on the map.

Use the scroll feature on the map to set adestination. See “From Map” under Destination onpage 29 for more information.

When scrolling on the map without a planned route,press the GO screen button to calculate the routefrom your current position to the destination mark.

SymbolsThe following symbols are the most commonsymbols that will appear on a map screen.

Your vehicle is shownas this symbol. Itindicates the currentposition and thedirection your vehicle istraveling on the map.

The destination symbolwill appear on the map,after a route hasbeen planned, markingthe final destination.

The stopover symbolwill display on the mapafter a stopover hasbeen added to the route.

The stopover symbols are numbered one throughthree, depending on how many stopovers havebeen set.

The distance todestination symbolindicates the distance tothe final destination.

This symbol only appears when the time to thedestination is not available or while you arescrolling on the map.

The distance and timeto destination symbolindicates the distanceand the estimatedtime remaining toyour final destination,depending on the optionselected.

The straight line todistance symbolindicates thestraight-line distanceto your destination.

This symbol will appear before you start driving onthe route or if you are on a road where navigationguidance cannot be given.

The north up symbolindicates the map withNorth Up, known asNorth Up mode.

While in North Up mode, the vehicle icon willfollow the north direction on the map regardless ofwhich direction the vehicle is traveling. Selectthis screen symbol to switch between North Up,Heading Up, and 3–D view modes.

The heading up symbolindicates that the vehicleis traveling up on themap and is known asHeading Up mode.

The shaded triangle indicates the North direction.While in Heading Up mode the direction at thetop of the screen and the way the vehicle icon isheading indicates the direction your vehicle istraveling. Select this screen symbol to switchbetween Heading Up, North Up, and 3–D viewmodes.

Three-dimensional (3–D) view mode will changethe appearance of the map display to a roadlevel view.

The No GPS symbol willappear when yourvehicle is not receivinga Global PositioningSystem (GPS) satellitesignal.

Select the Mark screenbutton to store thelocation on the screenin your address book.

The system will automatically store the point in theaddress book. See “Adding Destinations to theAddress Book” under Destination on page 29 formore information.

Displaying Points of Interest (POI) on theMap Screen

Select the POI screenbutton to display ordelete POI icons fromthe map.

Displaying POI icons on the map lets you knowwhere POIs (e.g. restaurants, gas stations,etc.) are located. This screen will appear afterselecting the POI screen button. Select one of the POI categories to display or to

delete POI icons from the map screen. Oncea category has been selected the POI icon willdisplay at the top of the screen. Five categoriescan be selected to display on the map screen.When a category is selected those POI icons willdisplay on the map. Press the POI screenbutton again to add more POI icons.

More: Select this screen button to view more POIcategories.

POI Close to: Once a category has beenselected, select this screen button to display thelist of available POIs for the selected POIcategories. The list provides the POI icon, thename, the direction, and the distance to the POIfrom your vehicle’s current position. Use the scrollarrows to move up and down the list. Use thesorting screen buttons: Dist (distance), Icon,Name, and on Route as desired.

Go: Select this screen button, next to the desiredPOI, to make this POI a destination or a stopover.

Select a POI name to receive information aboutthe POI. From this screen you can select: AddressBook, Go, or Map.

Address Book: Press this screen button to addthis POI to the address book. See “Nav” underConfigure Menu on page 45 for information onediting address book entries.

Go: Select this screen button to make this POI adestination or a stopover.

Map: Select this screen button to display the mapshowing the location of the POI.

OK: Select this screen button to display the mapscreen.

Show POI: Select this screen button to display orremove the POI icons from the map screen.

List all Categories: Select this screen button tolist all POIs sorted alphabetically.

Delete: To delete a specific POI category, selectthe category.

Clear All: Select this screen button to clear allselected POI categories.

Driving on a RouteWhen a destination has been routed and you aredriving on route, the map screen will automaticallydisplay the next maneuver.

The pop-up will displaythe next maneuverdirection and how manymiles or kilometersyou are from it.

3–D Lane Guidance

Some major metropolitan areas may include a3–D lane guidance feature for highway exits andjunctions. This feature gives you a more vividrepresentation of the exits and junctions on yourroute. Cities that include this feature are New York,Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, and San Francisco,and may also include Philadelphia, WashingtonD.C., and other major highway junctions.

Dual Mode

This dual screen symbolwill display when thescreen is in dual mode.

Dual mode displays the route on half of the screenand a maneuver or turn list on the other half.Press this button to switch between dual screenand full screen which displays the entire route.

Auto RerouteWhen your destination is set and you are off theplanned route, the system will automatically plan anew route and begin to reroute. The new routewill be highlighted on the screen.

DestinationPress the DEST key to access the DestinationEntry screen. From this screen, destination pointscan be entered through one of five destinationentry options.

Address Entry

2 Address Entry: The address entrydestination method allows you to enter an addressby providing the system with a city name or astreet name.

To enter a destination by entering the cityname first:

Point of Interest (POI)The Point of Interest (POI) destination entrymethod allows you to select a destination from thePOI list.

To use the point of interest destination entrymethod by entering the name:

6. Once both coordinates are entered, select theGo screen button. The map screen, with thedestination marked, will display.

Preset DestinationThe preset destination entry method allows youto set a destination by selecting from one of fivepreviously stored destinations. Besides voicetagged destinations, these are the only destinationsavailable to set while the vehicle is moving. If adestination is not set for one of the screen buttons,the button will be dim and will not be available foruse. See “Adding or Changing Preset Destinations”later in this section for information on how to add apreset destination.

To use the preset destination entry method:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the desired preset destination screenbutton. The screen buttons are labeled withthe name that was selected for the destinationwhen it was stored. The map screen, withthe destination marked, will display.

Turn List

Turn List: Select this screen button to view thelist of turn maneuvers for the entire route andto avoid turns on the route.

r / q (Scroll Arrows): Select the up anddown arrow screen buttons to scroll through thelist of maneuvers.

Avoid: Select this screen button, next to theadjacent street name, to avoid the maneuver.

The map screen will display. The route willre-calculate without that maneuver.

Route Preview: Select this screen button topreview the entire route in either direction.

t (Reverse Skip): Select this screen button togo back to the start point or previous stopover.

q /r (Reverse Scroll): Select this screenbutton to scroll to the start point or previousstopover. The t (reverse skip) button will changeto a fast reverse screen button.

j (Pause): Select this screen button to pausethe route preview, while in reverse or fast forwardscroll.

r /[ (Fast Forward Scroll): Select this screenbutton to scroll to the next stopover or to thefinal destination. The u (fast forward skip) buttonwill change to a fast speed fast forward.

u (Fast Forward Skip): Select this screenbutton to go to the next stopover or to the finaldestination.

Detour

Detour: Select this screen button from the Routescreen, then select to detour 1 mile, 3 miles, or5 miles (1 km, 3 km, 5 km) around the currentroute. You may also select to detour the wholeroute if necessary. This option is only availablewhile you are driving on your current plannedroute.

Voice VolumeSelect this screen button from the Route screen toturn voice guidance on or off and to change thevolume of voice prompts. See “Nav” underConfigure Menu on page 45 for more information.

Add Stopover

Add Stopover: Select this screen button from theRoute screen. This feature allows you to add upto three stopovers to the current route, betweenyour start point and final destination. Once astopover has been added, the points can be editedor deleted.

To add a stopover:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the Add or Add Stopover screenbutton. This button will only appear if aroute has been calculated.

3. Using the desired method of entering adestination, enter the stopover. See“Destination” previously for more information.

4. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

5. Select the Start Guidance screen button.You are now ready to start your route.

6. To add the second and third stopovers, pressthe DEST hard key, then select the Addscreen button, where you would like the nextstopover to fall on the route.

To delete a stopover from your current route:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the Delete screen button for a stopoverto be deleted.

3. The system will display a pop-up confirmationmessage. Select OK to delete the stopover;select Cancel to cancel this operation.

4. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate andhighlight the route.

5. Select the Start Guidance screen button.You are now ready to start your route.

Suspend GuidanceSelect this screen button, from the Route screen,to put the current route on hold.

Resume GuidanceSelect this screen button, from the Route screen,to resume guidance on the current route.

Cancel GuidanceSelect this screen button, from the Route screen,to cancel the current route.

Adding Destinations to theAddress BookThere are two ways to add a destination to theaddress book:

• To add the current final destination to theaddress book, select the Mark screenbutton from the map screen. The systemwill automatically save the final destinationinformation in the address book.

• Select the Add to Address Book screen buttonwhen available on POI information screens,Destination Entry screens, or POI screens.The system will automatically save thisinformation in the address book.

See “Nav” under Configure Menu on page 45 forinformation on editing address book entries.

Adding or Changing PresetDestinationsThis feature allows you to add or change one offive preset destinations. When a destinationhas been added as a preset destination, it will beavailable to select from the Destination Entryscreen. See “Preset Destination” previously forinformation on how to select a preset destinationas a final destination.

To store the current final destination as a presetdestination:

1. Select the Mark screen button from the mapscreen to add the current final destination.The Address Book screen will appear.

2. Select the Name screen button. Analpha-keyboard will display. Enter the name.

3. Press and hold one of the buttons atthe bottom of the screen until the nameappears in that preset destination screenbutton. It is now available to select from theDestination Entry screen.

To store an address book entry as a presetdestination:

1. Press the MENU hard key then press theMENU key repeatedly until Nav is selectedor select the Nav screen button.

2. Select the Edit/View screen button.

3. Select the address book entry that you wouldlike to store as the preset destination. Selectthe Name screen button to add a name, ifneeded.

4. Press and hold one of the buttons at thebottom of the screen until the name appearsin that preset destination screen button. Itis now available to select from the DestinationEntry screen.

Configure Menu

Press the MENU hard key to adjust several of thesystem’s features and preferences. The lastselected menu screen will be the screen thatdisplays; Sound, Radio, Nav (navigation), Display,or Time.

Voice Guidance: Select the On or Off screenbuttons to turn voice instructions on and off whiletraveling on a planned route.

Route PreferenceSelect the Route Preference screen button tochange route options when the system calculatesa route.

Allow Major Roads: Major roads will be usedwhen calculating a planned route.

Allow toll road: Toll roads will be used whencalculating a planned route.

Notice: Pressing directly on the navigationscreen may cause damage. Repairs would notbe covered by your warranty. Do not pressdirectly on the navigation screen.

To close the screen, slightly push up on thetwo outer corners until the screen is in position.Then push the screen in by pushing on thefour outer corners until you hear a click.See Maps on page 19 for more information.

Display

Brightness/Contrast/Mode

Select this screen button to change the brightness,contrast, and mode of the display.

] (Brightness): Select and hold the + (plus)or − (minus) screen buttons to increase ordecrease the brightness of the screen.

_ (Contrast): Select and hold the + (plus)or − (minus) screen buttons to increase ordecrease the contrast of the screen.

Auto (Automatic): Select this screen button forthe system to automatically adjust the screenbackground depending on exterior lightingconditions.

Night: Select this screen button and the systemwill make the map background darker.

Day: Select this screen button and the system willmake the map background brighter.

Setting the TimePress the MENU key to enter the menu options,then press the MENU key repeatedly until the timeis selected or select the time screen button,then press the Set screen button.

Hours: Select and hold the − (minus) or + (plus)signs to decrease or increase the hours.

Minutes: Select and hold the − (minus) or + (plus)signs to decrease or increase the minutes.

12/24 Format: Select the 12 screen button forstandard time; select the 24 screen buttonfor military time.

Global Positioning System (GPS)The navigation system determines the position ofyour vehicle by using satellite signals, variousvehicle signals, and map data.

At times, other interferences such as the satellitecondition, road configuration, the condition ofthe vehicle and/or other circumstances caninterfere with the navigation system’s ability todetermine the accurate position of the vehicle.

The GPS shows the current position of yourvehicle using signals sent by the GPS Satellitesof the United States Department of Defense.When your vehicle is not receiving signals fromthe satellites, a symbol will appear on themap screen. Refer to Symbols on page 22.

This system may not be available or interferencesmay occur if any of the following are true:

• Signals are obstructed by tall buildings, largetrucks, or a tunnel.

• Objects are located on the rear shelf.

• Satellites are being repaired or improved.

• After-market glass tinting has been applied tothe vehicle’s rear windshield.

Notice: Do not apply after-market glass tintingto the vehicle’s windows. Glass tinting willinterfere with the system’s ability to receiveGPS signals and cause the system tomalfunction. You might have to replace thewindow to correct the problem. This wouldnot be covered by your warranty.

Vehicle PositioningAt times, the position of the vehicle on the mapmay be inaccurate due to one or more of thefollowing reasons:

• The road system has changed.

• The vehicle is driving on slippery roadsurfaces such as in sand, gravel, and/or snow.

• The vehicle is traveling on winding roads.

• The vehicle is on a long straight road.

• The vehicle is approaching a tall building or alarge vehicle.

• The surface streets run parallel to a freeway.

• The vehicle has just been transferred by avehicle carrier or a ferry.

• The current position calibration is setincorrectly.

• The vehicle is traveling at high speed.

• The vehicle changes directions more thanonce, or when the vehicle is turning on aturn table in a parking lot.

• The vehicle is entering and/or exiting aparking lot, garage, or a lot with a roof.

• The GPS signal is not received.

• A roof carrier is installed on your vehicle.

• The vehicle is being driven with tire chains.

• The tires are replaced.

• The tire pressure for your tires is incorrect.

• The tires are worn.

• The first time the map DVD is inserted.

• The battery is disconnected for several days.

• The vehicle is driving in heavy traffic wheredriving is at low speeds, and the vehicle isstopped and started repeatedly.

If you experience problems with your system,see your dealer/retailer.

Problems with Route GuidanceInappropriate route guidance may occur under oneor more of the following conditions:

• You have not turned onto the road indicated.

• Route guidance may not be availablewhen using automatic rerouting for the nextright or left turn.

• The route may not be changed when usingautomatic rerouting.

• There is no route guidance when turning at anintersection.

• Plural names of places may be announcedoccasionally.

• It may take a long time to operate automaticrerouting during high-speed driving.

• Automatic rerouting may display a routereturning to the set stopover if you are headingfor a destination without passing through aset stopover.

• The route prohibits the entry of a vehicle dueto a regulation by time or season or anyother regulation which may be given.

• Some routes may not be searched.

• The route to the destination may not beshown if there are new roads, if roadshave recently changed, or if certain roads arenot listed on the map DVD. See OrderingMap DVDs on page 55.

To recalibrate the vehicle’s position on the map,see your dealer/retailer.

If the System Needs ServiceIf your system needs service and you havefollowed the steps listed here and still areexperiencing problems, see your dealer/retailerfor assistance.

Ordering Map DVDsThe map DVD in your vehicle is the most up-to-dateinformation available when your vehicle waspurchased. The map DVD is updated periodically,provided that the map information has changed.You will receive two free DVD map disc updateswith the purchase of your new vehicle. Updatesare necessary to make sure that your vehicle’snavigation system has the most accurateinformation available about streets/roads,points of interest, and business locations.

The updates are provided by the GM Nav DiscCenter at the first and second anniversary dates ofyour vehicle’s delivery date. About four to six weeksbefore those anniversary dates, you will receive apost card from the GM Nav Disc Center remindingyou that a free update is available. The center willrequest confirmation of your mailing address eitherby having you contact the toll-free number,1-877-NAV-DISC (1-877-628-3472), or the center’swebsite, www.gmnavdisc.com. After verifying youraddress you should receive the updated disc inabout two weeks. After receiving the updated disc,replace the old disc in the navigation system. See“Installing the DVD Map Disc” and “Ejecting theDVD Map Disc” under Maps on page 19. Dispose ofthe old disc to avoid confusion about which disc isthe most current.If you have any questions about the operation of thenavigation system or the update process, call theGM Nav Disc Center or go to the center’s website.

If you need any future updates or a replacementdisc, because the current disc is lost, damaged, orneeds to be updated, call the GM Nav Disc Centeror order a new disc online. To order a disc, haveyour Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) available.This helps the center make sure you receive thecorrect and most up to date DVD map disc for yourvehicle. See “Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)”in the Index of your vehicle’s owner manual formore information.

Database Coverage ExplanationsCoverage areas vary with respect to the level ofmap detail available for any given area. Someareas will feature greater levels of detail thanothers. If this happens, it does not mean there isa problem with the system. Navigation Audio SystemNotice: Before adding any sound equipment toyour vehicle, such as an audio system, CDplayer, CB radio, mobile telephone, or two-wayradio, make sure that it can be added bychecking with your dealer/retailer. Also, checkfederal rules covering mobile radio andtelephone units. If sound equipment can beadded, it is very important to do it properly.Added sound equipment can interfere withthe operation of your vehicle’s engine, radio,or other systems, and even damage them.Your vehicle’s systems can interfere withthe operation of sound equipment that hasbeen added.

Notice: The chime signals related to seat belts,parking brake, and other functions of yourvehicle operate through the navigation system.If that equipment is replaced or additionalequipment is added to your vehicle, the chimesmay not work. Make sure that replacement oradditional equipment is compatible with yourvehicle before installing it. See “Accessoriesand Modifications” in the Index of yourvehicle’s owner manual.

Playing the Radio

O (Power/Volume): Press this knob to turnthe audio system on and off. Turn the knobto increase or to decrease the volume.

Press and hold this knob for more thantwo seconds to turn off the navigation system,the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) video screen,and Rear Seat Audio (RSA). If the vehicle hasnot been turned off, the RSE and the RSA can beturned back on by pressing this knob. The lastactive source will resume playing.

f (Tuning Knob): Turn this knob to go to thenext or previous frequency.

AUDIO: Press this key to display the audioscreen. Press the key to switch between AM,FM, or XM, if equipped, DISC, or AUX (Auxiliary),or select the screen button. See CD Player onpage 67, DVD Player on page 75, or AuxiliaryDevices on page 82 for more information.

Finding a StationThere are three ways to find/change stations:• If viewing a full map screen, use the

¨© SEEK keys and the f (tune) knob.You cannot change preset stations from thefull map screen.

• If viewing a full map screen, select the sourcescreen (AM, FM, XM, CD, etc..) button. Thedisplay will split between the audio screen andthe map screen. All station-changing functionscan be performed from this screen.

• If you do not want to view a split screen oryou are not on a map screen, press theAUDIO hard key to enter the audio menu.

AM/FM/XM: Select the source (AM, FM, or XM,if equipped) screen button or press the AUDIO keyrepeatedly until the desired source is selected.

Category: Select the screen button, located in themiddle of the screen, to receive a list of all of theselected band stations in the area. Use the upand down arrow screen buttons to scroll thefrequencies. Select the desired frequency.

XM lists will also contain a category to select andthe stations or channels that pertain to the category.For XM, select the left and right arrow screen

buttons to change categories. The stationinformation will appear on the display. See “RadioMenu” later in this section to add and remove XMcategories from the category list. When listening toXM stations, you will be able to select all of thecategories when using the right and left arrowscreen buttons on the main audio screen.Categories cannot be selected from the categorylist screen when they have been removed.

FM lists may also contain a category to selectif stations in your area support Radio DataSystems (RDS).

Storing Radio Station PresetsThis feature allows you to store up to 30 presetstations. You can mix AM, FM, and XM(if equipped). To store presets:

1. Press theO (power) knob to turn thesystem on.

2. If viewing a map screen, select the sourcescreen button, press the AUDIO key,or press the FAV (favorite) key.

3. Select the band.

4. Seek, scan, or tune to the desired station,to select the station.

5. Press and hold one of the preset screenbuttons for more than two seconds or untilyou hear a beep.

6. Repeat the steps for each preset.

Sound Menu

SOUND: Press this key or press the MENU keyto access the Sound menu to adjust the treble,midrange, bass, fade, balance, and equalization.

Setting the Tone

TREBLE: Select and hold the plus (+) or minus (−)sign to increase or decrease the treble. If a stationis weak or noisy, decrease the treble.

MID (Midrange): Select and hold the plus (+) orminus (−) sign to increase or decrease themidrange.

BASS: Select and hold the plus (+) or minus (−)sign to increase or decrease the bass.

Adjusting the Speakers

L/R (Left/Right) (Balance): To adjust the balancebetween the left and the right speakers, selectand hold the L or R screen buttons.

Front/Rear (Fade): To adjust the fade betweenthe front and the rear speakers, select andhold the Front or Rear screen buttons.

Automatic EqualizationWith automatic equalization you can select acustomized equalization setting designed for Talk.Select the Talk screen button to adjust the tonesettings to an automatic preset for talk radio.

Select Custom to adjust the bass, treble,and midrange settings as desired.

The system will save separate settings for eachsource.

Rear Seat Audio (RSA)If the Rear Seat Audio (RSA) system has beenturned on, you can turn off the RSA by selectingthe Rear Seat Audio Off screen button. See “RearSeat Audio (RSA)” in the Index of your vehiclesowner manual.

Automatic Volume Control

Automatic Volume Control: With automaticvolume control, your audio system adjustsautomatically to make up for road and wind noiseas you drive.

To use Automatic Volume Control:

1. Set the volume at the desired level.

2. Press the MENU key to enter the menuscreen, then press the MENU key repeatedlyuntil Radio is selected or touch the Radioscreen button

3. Press the Automatic Volume Control screenbutton.

4. Touch the LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH screenbuttons. Each higher setting allows for morecompensation at faster vehicle speeds.

Then, as you drive, automatic volume controlautomatically increases the volume, as necessary,to overcome noise at any speed. The volumelevel should always sound the same to you asyou drive. To turn automatic volume controloff, touch the OFF screen button.

Remove/Add XM CategoriesSelect the Remove/Add XM Categories screenbutton to remove or add XM categories whenselecting from the category list screen. The list ofXM categories will appear on the screen. Usethe up and down arrow screen buttons to scrollthrough the list. The categories to remove willbe highlighted and the categories to add willbe dark in color. Select the category thatyou would like to add or remove. Select theRestore All Categories screen button to add allcategories that have been removed.

Radio Data System (RDS)The audio system has a Radio Data System(RDS). RDS features are available for use only onFM stations that broadcast RDS information.With RDS, the radio can:

• Seek to stations broadcasting the selectedtype of programming

• Receive announcements concerning local andnational emergencies

• Display messages from radio stations

This system relies on receiving specific informationfrom these stations and will only work when theinformation is available. In rare cases, a radiostation may broadcast incorrect information thatwill cause the radio features to work improperly.If this happens, contact the radio station.

The RDS system is always on. When informationis broadcast from the FM station you arelistening to, the station name or call letters willdisplay on the audio screen. RDS may provide aprogram type (PTY) for current programmingand the name of the program being broadcast.

XM™ Satellite Radio ServiceXM™ is a satellite radio service that is based inthe 48 contiguous United States and Canada.XM™ offers a large variety of coast-to-coastchannels including music, news, sports, talk,traffic/weather (U.S. subscribers), and children’sprogramming. XM™ provides digital qualityaudio and text information that includes thechannel name and number, song title, and artistname. A service fee is required in order to receivethe XM™ service. For more information, contactXM™; In the U.S. at www.xmradio.com orcall 1-800-852-XMXM (9696) or in Canada atwww.xmradio.ca or call 1-877-GET-XMSR(438-9677).

When XM™ is active, the channel name andnumber, song title, and artist will display on thescreen.

When you insert a CD, the CD tab will display.If you select an equalization setting for the CD,it will be activated each time you play a CD.

If you turn off the ignition or radio with a CD in theplayer, it will stay in the player. When you turnon the ignition or radio, the CD will start playingwhere it stopped, if it was the last selectedaudio source.

As each new track starts to play, the track numberwill appear on the display.

If playing recorded media such as, CD-R(W) thesound quality may be reduced due to CD quality,the method of recording, the quality of the musicthat has been recorded, recording speed. maxmedia recording speed, and the way the CD hasbeen handled. There may be an increase inskipping, difficulty in finding tracks, and/or difficultyin loading and ejecting. If these problems occur,check the bottom surface of the CD. If the surfaceof the CD is damaged, such as cracked, broken,or scratched, the CD will not play properly. If thesurface of the CD is soiled, see “Care of Your CDs”in the Index of your vehicle’s owner manual.

If there is no apparent damage, try a knowngood CD.

Notice: If a label is added to a CD, or more thanone CD is inserted into the slot at a time, or anattempt is made to play scratched or damagedCDs, the CD player could be damaged. Whileusing the CD player, use only CDs in goodcondition without any label, load one CD at atime, and keep the CD player and the loadingslot free of foreign materials, liquids, anddebris.

Do not add any label to a CD, it could get caughtin the CD player. If a CD is recorded on apersonal computer and a description label isneeded, try labeling the top of the recorded CDwith a soft marker instead.

¨ SEEK / © SEEK: To seek tracks, press the uparrow to go to the next track. Press the down arrowto go to the start of the current track, if more thaneight seconds have played. When playing an audio CD the rear seat operatorcan power on the RSE video screen and usethe remote control to navigate through the trackson the CD.

Using a Compressed Audio CD/DVDCompressed Audio CD/DVD FormatThere are guidelines that must be met, whencreating an MP3, WMA, or mixed disc. If theguidelines are not met when recording a burneddisc, the disc may not play. The guidelines are:

• ID3 tag information is displayed by the radioif it is available. The radio supports ID3 taginformation v1.0, v1.1, and v2.0. The radio willdisplay a filename, song name, artist name,album name, and directory name.

• Maximum 32 characters, including spaces,in a file or folder name.

• The recommended maximum number offolders is 100 with a maximum hierarchy ofthree folders.

• Create a folder structure that makes it easy tofind songs while driving. Organize songs byalbums using one folder for each album.

• All playlist files (.m3u or.pls) must be removedfrom disc contents. Playlists are not supported.

• It is recommended that there is a maximum of192 files on a CD-R(W) disc.

• It is recommended that there is a maximum of200 files on a DVD+R(W) disc.

• The files can be recorded on a CD-R(W) orDVD+R(W)

• Copy protected WMA files are not supported.

Scanning Compressed Audio DiscScanning a compressed audio disc categorizesand allows sorting of songs by folder artistor album.

• Select center folder/artist/album button toinitiate scanning mode. The radio will play anda progress bar will display.

• Background scanning will occur with the radioon and the compressed audio disc insertedbut not being played.

• Only the first 200 songs will appear in thecompressed audio music navigator.

• Scanning time will vary depending on thenumber of files and folders on the disc.

Root DirectoryThe root directory will be treated as a folder. If theroot directory has compressed audio files, thedirectory will be displayed as ROOT. All filescontained directly under the root directory will beaccessed prior to any root directory folders.

Empty Directory or FolderIf a root directory or a folder exists somewherein the file structure that contains only folders/subfolders and no compressed files directlybeneath them, the player will advance to the nextfolder in the file structure that contains compressedaudio files and the empty folder will not bedisplayed or numbered.

No FolderWhen the disc contains only compressed files,the files will be located under the root folder.The next and previous folder functions will haveno function on a disc that was recorded withoutfolders. When displaying the name of the folder theradio will display ROOT.

Order of PlayTracks will be played in the following order:

• The radio will not support playlist files.

• Order of play differs depending if thecompressed audio disc is fully scanned orunscanned. See “Scanning Compressed AudioDisc” previously in this section.

• When playing an unscanned disc, the nextand previous screen buttons may berequired to switch away from the current folderwhen quickly seeking rather than allowingthe last song of a folder to play to completion.

• Play will begin from the first track underthe root directory. When all tracks fromthe root directory have been played, playwill continue from files according to theirnumerical listing. After playing the last trackfrom the last folder, play will begin again at thefirst track of the first folder or root directory.

• A scanned compressed audio disc inartist/album modes will only play songs withinthe current category. The next and previousscreen buttons will change to differentartists or albums.

When play enters a new folder, the display willnot automatically show the new folder name.The new track name will appear on the display.

File System and NamingThe song name that will display will be the songname that is contained in the ID3 tag. If thesong name is not present in the ID3 tag, thenthe radio will display the file name withoutthe extension (such as .mp3) as the track name.

Track names longer than 32 characters orfour pages will be shortened. The display willnot show parts of words on the last page of textand the extension of the filename will not display.

Playing a Compressed Audio DiscWith the ignition on, insert a disc partway into theslot, label side up. The player will pull it in andthe disc should begin playing. While playing a disc,the navigation system is available.

If either arrow ispressed more than once, the player will continuemoving backward or forward through the CD.The sound will mute while seeking.

f (Tuning Knob): Turn this knobcounterclockwise one notch to go to the startof the current track, turn it again to go tothe previous track. Turn this knob clockwiseto go to the next track.

Vehicles with Rear Seat Audio (RSA) can useRSA to change tracks/chapters. Vehicles with RSEcan use the remote control to changetracks/chapters.

CD MessagesIf Disc Read Error appears on the display and/orthe CD comes out, it could be for one of thefollowing reasons:

• A disc was inserted with an invalid or unknownformat.

• The map DVD disc was installed into the CDslot. See “Installing the Map DVD” underMaps on page 19.

• It is very hot. When the temperature returns tonormal, the CD should play.

• You are driving on a very rough road. When theroad becomes smoother, the CD should play.

• The CD is dirty, scratched, wet, orupside down.

• The air is very humid. If so, wait about an hourand try again.

• There may have been a problem while burningthe CD.

• The label may be caught in the CD player.

If the CD is not playing correctly, for any otherreason, try a known good CD.

If any error occurs repeatedly or if an error cannotbe corrected, contact your dealer/retailer.

DVD PlayerThe player can be used for CD, MP3, DVD audio,and as a DVD video player.

If the system has this feature, it will not operate,on the navigation screen, unless the vehicleis in PARK (P). It will operate on the Rear SeatEntertainment (RSE) screen while the vehicleis moving. The RSE video screen will start playof the DVD when a DVD is inserted into thenavigation system. The DVD player can becontrolled by the buttons on the navigation system,the Rear Seat Audio (RSA) system, and the

remote control. The DVD player can also be usedfor the rear seat passengers with the radio off.The rear seat passengers can power on the videoscreen and use the remote control to navigatethe disc. See “Rear Seat Entertainment System”in the Index of your vehicle’s owner manualfor more information.

The DVD player is only compatible with DVDs ofthe appropriate region code that is printed onthe jacket of most DVDs.

The DVD slot is compatible with most audioCDs, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio,DVD+R/RW single layer media along withMP3 and WMA formats. DVD-R, DVD-RW, andDVD+R dual layer media is not supported.

If playing any compatible DVD+R(W) the soundquality may be reduced due to disc quality,the method of recording, the quality of the videothat has been recorded, and the way the dischas been handled. There may be an increase inskipping, difficulty in finding chapters, and/ordifficulty in loading and ejecting. If these problemsoccur, check the bottom surface of the DVD.If the surface of the DVD is damaged, such ascracked, broken, or scratched, the DVD willnot play properly.

Navigation DVD Radio with Bose®

Surround Sound SystemIf your vehicle has a Rear Seat Entertainment(RSE) system, it has a radio capable of playingboth CD and DVD discs. See “Rear SeatEntertainment” in the Index of your vehicle’sowner manual.

The CD/DVD player is the top slot on the radiofaceplate. The player is capable of readingthe DTS programmed DVD-Audio or DVD-Videomedia. DTS and DTS 2.0 are trademarks of DigitalTheater Systems, Inc. AC-3 is Dolby® DigitalSurround 5.1 technology.

The system is optimized to use 5.1 audio surroundsound before stereo tracks. Stereo modes aretypically available if manually selected. Press theOptions button, then the Audio button or DVDmain or top menu.

Playing a DVDThere are three ways to play a DVD:

• Once a DVD is inserted, the system willautomatically start play of the DVD up to theDVD top menu. The r (play) button mustbe pressed to start the movie from the DVD’smenu screen.

• If you are on a map screen, select the DVDscreen button.

• Press the AUDIO hard key, then select theDVD screen button.

• The r (play) button must be pressed for themovie to resume play when the vehicle hasbeen turned OFF and then back ON.

When a DVD is loaded, the rear seat passengerscan power on the RSE video screen and usethe remote control to navigate through the DVD.

O (Power/Volume): Press this knob to turnthe system on and off. Turn the knob to increaseor decrease the volume of the audio system.

Press and hold this knob for more than two secondsto turn off the navigation system, RSE video screen,and RSA. If the vehicle has not been tuned off,the RSE and the RSA can be turned back on bypressing this knob and will continue play of the lastactive source.

DVD Menu OptionsOnce a DVD starts to play, the menu options andcursor screen buttons will automatically appear.To display the menu Options screen button while aDVD is playing, touch anywhere on the screen.

Options: Select this screen button to view themenu option screen buttons. Menu options areavailable when they are highlighted. Some menuoptions are only available when the DVD is notplaying.

Cursor: Select this screen button to access thecursor menu. The arrows and other cursor optionsallow you to navigate the DVD menu options.The cursor menu options are only available if aDVD has a menu. Use the cursor menu to start aDVD video from the disc main menu.

q, Q, r, R (Arrow Buttons): Use thesearrow buttons to move around the DVD menu.

Enter: Select this button to select the highlightedoption.

Return: Select this button to go back to theprevious DVD menu.

Back: Select this button to go back to the mainDVD display screen.

Move: Select this button to move the cursorbuttons back and forth from the bottom-right cornerto the top-left corner of the screen.

j / r (Pause/Play): Select this button to pausethe DVD. This button will then change to the playbutton. Select the play button to play the DVD.Select this button in a DVD disc main menu tostart the DVD.

c (Stop): Select this button to stop play of theDVD. Select the play button to continue playing theDVD from where the DVD was stopped. Select thisbutton twice to return to the beginning of the DVD.

r (Rewind): Select and release this button torewind through the scene, chapters, and titles.Select this button again to increase the rewindingspeed. Select the play button to stop rewinding.This button may not work when the DVD is playingthe copyright information or the previews.

[ (Forward): Select and release this buttonto advance rapidly through the scene, chapters,and titles. Select this button again to increasethe fast forwarding speed. Select the play buttonto stop fast forwarding. This button may notwork when the DVD is playing the copyrightinformation or the previews.

Hide Options: Select this screen button toremove all menu options from the display, exceptOptions and Cursor.

Top Menu: Select this button to display the firstmenu of the DVD. This is not available on all DVDs.

Menu: Select this button to display the DVD menuof the current area of the DVD that is playing. Thisbutton is not available for DVD audio.

Audio: Select this button to display the audiooptions. Select the audio options that best improvesound quality. This is not available on all DVDsor when the DVD is stopped. This button may notbe available for some DVD audio discs. See“Fading With a Bose® Surround Sound System”later in this section.

Subtitle: Select this button to play the video withsubtitles. This is not available on all DVDs orwhen the DVD is stopped. This button isnot available for DVD audio.

Angle: Select this button to adjust the viewingangle of the DVD. Repeatedly select this button totoggle through the angles. This is not availableon all DVDs or when the DVD is stopped.This button is not available for DVD audio.

q (Previous Scene): Select this button to go tothe previous scene. This button does not workwhen the DVD is stopped. This button is notavailable for DVD video.

r (Next Scene): Select this button to go to thenext scene. This button does not work whenthe DVD is stopped. This button is not availablefor DVD video.

Search: Select this button to display the searchscreen. Select Title or Chapter Search for DVDvideo and Group or Track for DVD audio. Thekeyboard allows you to type in the title/chapter/group/track number that you would like to watch orlisten to. This button does not work when the DVDis stopped.

Setup: Select this button to display the DVDSetup screen. This button is only available whenthe DVD is not playing. The DVD Setup screenallows you to change the brightness, contrast,and the viewing aspect on the monitor.

! (Brightness): Select the up or down screenarrows to increase or decrease the brightnessof the navigation screen.

_ (Contrast): Select the up or down screenarrows to increase or decrease the contrast of thenavigation screen.

Monitor: From the DVD Setup screen, select thisbutton to adjust the aspect ratio of the DVD on thenavigation screen. This is not available on all DVDs.This button is not available for DVD audio.

Select the e button to close the screen in from theleft and right sides.

Select the J button to fill the screen on the leftand right sides.

Select the d button to fill the screen on the top andbottom.

SEEK ¨ (Next Track/Chapter): Press this hardkey to go to the next track or chapter. This buttonmay not work when the DVD is playing thecopyright information or the previews.

© SEEK (Previous Track/Chapter): Pressthis hard key to return to the start of the currenttrack or chapter. Press this button again togo to the previous track or chapter. This buttonmay not work when the DVD is playing thecopyright information or the previews.

f (Tuning Knob): Turn this knobcounterclockwise one notch to go to the start ofthe current chapter/track, turn it again to go to theprevious chapter/track. Turn this knob clockwiseto go to the next chapter/track.

Fading With a Bose® Surround SoundSystemWhen using fade in 5.1 Surround mode, the leftfront and right front speakers will fade rearward,leaving the center front speaker unaffected until thelast fade step, then all front speakers will mute.

If the Rear Seat Audio (RSA) is turned on, theradio disables fade and mutes the rear speakers.

When fading full rearward, you may want toselect a stereo mode rather than 5.1. Stereo modeallows full audio content, center channel, voices,etc., to be faded rearward for rear occupants usingvehicle speakers.

The following methods allow for switching 5.1surround sound into a 2 channel stereo mode:

• Select a stereo or 2 channel mode usingthe DVD-Video top menu. Most commercialDVD-Video top menus contain audioconfiguration settings.

• While the movie is playing, select OPTIONSto show all available DVD options. Selectthe AUDIO buttons to change currentDVD audio track.

Some DVD-Video discs only contain Dolby®

Digital 5.1 (AC-3) or DTS 5.1 audio tracks and maynot allow conversions into stereo modes.

See “Adjusting the Speakers” under NavigationAudio System on page 58 for more information.

DVD MessagesIf Disc Read Error appears on the display and/orthe DVD comes out, it could be for one of thefollowing reasons:

• A disc was inserted with an invalid or unknownformat.

• The disc is not from a correct region.

• The map DVD disc was installed into the DVDaudio/video slot. See “Installing the Map DVD”under Maps on page 19

• It is very hot. When the temperature returns tonormal, the DVD should play.

• You are driving on a very rough road.When the road becomes smoother, the DVDshould play.

• The DVD is dirty, scratched, wet, orupside down.

• The air is very humid. If so, wait about anhour and try again.

• There may have been a problem whileburning the DVD.

• The label may be caught in the DVD player.

If the DVD is not playing correctly, for anyother reason, try a known good DVD.

If any error occurs repeatedly or if an error cannotbe corrected, contact your dealer/retailer.

Auxiliary DevicesYour vehicle may have a Rear EntertainmentSystem (RSE). The RSE has audio adaptersthat allow you to connect auxiliary devices.The audio can be heard through the speakersor through the wireless or wired headphones.See “Audio/Video Jacks” under “Rear SeatEntertainment System” in the Index of yourvehicle’s owner manual for more information.

Drivers are encouraged to set up any auxiliarydevice while the vehicle is in PARK (P). See“Defensive Driving” in the Index of your vehiclesowner manual for more information on driverdistraction.

To switch the RSE system to use an auxiliarydevice, do the following:

1. Connect the auxiliary device to the RSEsystem.

2. Press the AUDIO key. Then press the AUDIOkey repeatedly until AUX (auxiliary) isselected; or select the AUX screen button.A front auxiliary device must be connectedbefore the front auxiliary device can beselected. The rear auxiliary device can beselected by pressing the REAR AUX button.The rear auxiliary device system requiresall video and audio inputs to be connectedto ensure proper audio fidelity of the rearauxiliary device.

The rear seat passengers can also use the remotecontrol to change the functions of the RSE. See“Rear Seat Entertainment System” in the Index ofyour vehicles owner manual for more information.

Voice RecognitionThe navigation system’s voice recognition allowsfor hands-free operation of the navigation system,audio system, and OnStar® features. The DVD mapdisc must be installed in the navigation system forvoice recognition to work. See “Installing the DVDMap Disc” under Maps on page 19.

Voice recognition can be used when the ignition ison or when Retained Accessory Power (RAP) isactive. See “Retained Accessory Power (RAP)” inthe Index of your vehicle’s owner manual formore information.

To use voice recognition, do the following:1. Push and hold the

talk symbol steeringwheel controluntil you hear abeep. The audiosystem will mute.

2. Clearly state one of the commands listed onthe following pages.

Helpful Hints for Stating Commands• When a multiple command is available, choose

the command that best works for you.

• Words that are in brackets are optional.For example, for the command Radio [band][select] FM, stating Radio FM or Radioselect FM are both valid commands.

• When the system recognizes the commandthe system will do one of the following:

− Perform the function.− Ask you to confirm your choice.− Issue an error message “Did not

recognize. Voice Recognition Canceled.”

• If the system is not yet ready, the system willdisplay a message.

• To cancel a command or if the systemresponse does not match your verbalcommand, press and hold the talk symbolbutton. The system will reply, “VoiceRecognition Canceled”.

• If you experience difficulty with the systemrecognizing a command, try saying it moresoftly, and wait for a few seconds afterthe beep, or you may just try saying it again.

• Background noise may cause voicecommands to be misunderstood, includingairflow noise from wind.

• To use the voice recognition system, the mapDVD must be loaded and the navigationsystem must be on.

This system is able to recognize commands in threedifferent languages. The system will only recognizecommands based on the language selected fromthe Driver Information Center (DIC). See “DriverInformation Center, DIC Vehicle Personalization” inthe Index of your vehicles owner manual.

Voice Recognition CommandsThe following list shows all of the voice commandsavailable for the navigation system with a briefdescription of each. The commands are listed withthe optional words in brackets. To use the voicecommands, refer to the instructions listedpreviously.

Voice Tag CommandsThe following are voice tag commands you canaccess by clearly stating the commands exactly asthey are written. You may have up to 40 voicetag entries for destinations.

Navigation go to [destination], navigationselect: These commands instruct the system toselect a destination saved under the voice tag youhave stored. The system will prompt you for adestination name then wait for you to statethe name.

If you are not currently driving on a route, thesystem will automatically create the voice tagdestination as the final destination. If you arecurrently driving on a route, the system willautomatically create the voice tag destination as astopover. Up to three stopovers can be created.

Storing Voice TagsFrom the address book entry information page,press the Add Voice tag screen button. The systemwill respond “Name Please?” and you will havefour seconds to record a name. The system will askfor confirmation of the name before saving it as avoice tag.

Navigation Help: This command instructs thesystem to assist with navigation commands.

Display CommandsUse the following display commands to set thedisplay mode.

Display [set] day [mode]: Use this command toset the display to daytime mode.

Display [set] night [mode]: Use this commandto set the display to night mode.

Display [set] auto [mode]: Use this command toset the display to automatic mode. The system willchange between day and night mode automatically.

System help: This command instructs the systemto assist with display commands.

Radio CommandsThe following are radio commands you canaccess by clearly stating the commands exactly asthey are written.

Radio [band] [select] AM, radio [band] [select]FM, radio [band] [select] XM, radio [band][select] satellite: These commands instructthe system to go to either the AM, FM, or XM(if equipped).

Radio [select] (frequency) AM, radio [select](frequency) FM: These commands instructthe system to go to a specific frequency on eitherAM or FM.

Radio [select] (channel) XM, radio [select](channel) satellite: These commands instruct thesystem to go to a specific channel on the XM™band (if equipped).

Radio help: This command instructs the systemto assist with radio commands.
