2 2006 US SAILING ANNUAL REPORT

Jim CapronPresident

Dear Member,

US SAILING had a banner year thanks to our devoted volunteers, directors, staff and you, our members.

Throughout 2006, we were busy certifying our sailors nationwide. Nearly 7,000 certifi cations were issued to qualifi ed instructors and race offi cials, as well as to rated offshore boats. In addition, through our National Championships and Junior Olympic programs, we empowered approximately 6,500 sailors with superb racing and training clinics - provided by countless race offi cials and volunteers throughout the country.

We are pleased to say that, in addition to administering these programs, we were also able to end this year with a surplus and in a much improved fi nancial position.

Our US Sailing Team continues to build on two years of unparalleled performance. Thanks to the gifts of our Medalist Donors, the athletes will be receiving unprecedented support as they move into the fi nal year of preparation for the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Other highlights of the year include a new streamlined, member-elected Board of 14 Directors and a record level of charitable donations and corporate sponsorship.

Based on this success in 2006, the US SAILING Board of Directors began 2007 with the creation of a clear windward mark for all of us. The Board has drafted and approved a new mission for the organization: “Providing leadership for the sport of sailing in the United States.”

This new mission is based on the vision that US SAILING is recognized as the leader in training and certifi cation, in support for racing sailors, and in facilitating access to sailing.

Furthermore, the Board has provided clear and valuable guidance for our business decision making. Our guiding principle will be to pursue programs and services that a) create member value, b) we can do well, and c) we can support fi nancially.

Our special thanks to all of you who have supported US SAILING with your time, talent and fi nancial support. US SAILING’s successes are your successes!

To our 37,000 members: may you have fair winds and following seas in 2007!
