    Rest stop o Alfred led a one day “Up the river trip” in September, 12 hours, 65 gallons of gas and

    CIVIC ACTIVITY o The club held its 14th Annual Christmas Parade of Boats, Joe Campbell chairman o 14th Annual Poker Run o Beach Sweep/River Sweep September 16th o DNR held a boating safety class in June for the ladies

    o New members voted into the club: Charlie Hatfield in April Jerry and Katie Hatcher September John and Linda Lessman in November

    o Bus trip to the $100 dance left Alfred’s on October 14th Dale met Betty Lou and lives were changed forever

    CIVIC ACTIVITY o The club cancelled its annual Christmas Parade of Boats to low water levels o 15th Annual Poker Run o In June, the idea of developing a scholarship fund was placed before the members of the

    club by Dale Cozart. Dale, Eddie Gleaton and Jimmy Brumble were tasked to study and develop the idea In July the club agreed to develop a Scholarship Program to provide financial

    assistance to high school seniors residing in one of five counties surrounding Lakes Marion and Moultrie and college students majoring in environmentally focused areas

    $6500 was deposited into a separate account in August to create the fund In November a Scholarship Committee was formed and held its first meeting. The

    Scholarship program was off and running o Club conducted a Ladies on the Lake Boating Program in June

    Over 20 women participated at John C Land Landing Lunch provided by Jim Taylor and Bob Miller

    o GIBC donated eight tactical holsters for DNR officers at a cost of $160 each MEMBER REFLECTIONS

    o Members voted into the club: Ernest Thomas and Pam Gardiner in January LD and Carolyn Hardy in February

    o John Roe was presented a carved paddle for his work on our website o Billy Downer from SCDNR spoke at our April meeting thanking the club for past

    o First trip to the Elloree Trials by the GIBC. The gang loved it. Two spots “on the rail” would become the location for future parties. Is pari-mutuel betting allowed in SC?

  • Somebody conned Dale into a hat contest Carolyn aka “The banker” CIVIC ACTIVITY

    o For the second year the club cancelled its Annual Christmas Parade of Boats due to low water levels

    o 16th Annual Poker Run o Scholarship committee selected Hunter Summersett, a rising Freshman at Clemson as its

    first recipient of $1500 o Club donated $200 to the Turbeville Children’s home o GIBC sponsored a boat trip for kids from Camp Happy Days in August

    MEMBER REFLECTIONS o Outgoing President Eddie Gleaton presented the new President with a memento of his

    tour at the helm of the club. Escobar and his small bottle of Crown Royal would become a fixture to be passed between Presidents and can still be seen at most GIBC functions

    o Dale was appointed as the Club “Parliamentarian”. The new position did not include a pay raise or retirement plan

    o Eddie Gleaton took over as our webmaster and things began to look up o Sunset at Alfred and Ann’s

    ENTERTAINMENT o Christmas party was held December 4th at Goat Island Restaurant. Stacy Drawdy

    performed as Elvis. The ladies swooned when he did the scarf thing

    o Joe Campbell hosted an oyster roast under the power lines in March o In March the club attended the Elloree Trials for the second time

    o On October 17th, the Club made a trip up the Congaree River o Thanksgiving was held on Green Island. Turkey, collard greens and all the fixins

    CIVIC ACTIVITY o Participated in the Striped Bass Festival Parade. John Mathis drove The THING and Joe

    Campbell and “Killer” rode a motorcycle o 17th Annual Poker Run April 26th
