ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Bob Westly is a Professional Geologist and Director of ISO 14000 EMS Services for SCS Engineers (SCS). He is atrained ISO 14001 auditor, has over 30 years of environmental experience in a wide range of disciplines, and hasprovided EMS services since 1996. Mr. Westly is a member of the U.S. TAG to ISO/TC 207, which represents theU.S. in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO developed and promulgated the ISO 14000Environmental Management System (EMS) standards. Mr. Westly has provided EMS training to numerousorganizations and EMS development support to Sony Professional systems and Lockheed Martin Tactical DefenseSystems. Currently, he is providing a variety of EMS services to Agere Systems, Mitsubishi Polysilicon, and GeneralDynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems.
Bob has been the lead instructor for numerous ISO 14000 workshops and presentations that have includedorganizations such as the Semiconductor Safety Association, the Florida Manufacturing and Chemical Council(FMCC), the Bay Area Manufacturing Association, and numerous industries. He has directed two regional satellitevideoconferences on ISO 14000 and written on ISO 14000 for publications of the FMCC, the Bay Area ManufacturersAssociation, and the ISO Reporter.
Mark Tumlin is a senior project level scientist in SCS’ Florida Operations. He has over 12 years of environmentalconsulting experience with SCS and over 14 years of professional experience managing environmentally-relates issues. His environmental consulting experience includes coordinating, conducting, and managing projects involvingenvironmental management systems (EMS) and health and safety (H&S). Mr. Tumlin currently is assisting GeneralDynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems with implementation of ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001 conforming managementsystems nationwide.
Mr. Tumlin is the SCS National Partner for Environmental Data Quality Assurance and SCS Florida operations'Quality Assurance Officer (QAO). Mr. Tumlin completed the 40-hour ISO 14000 Lead Auditor Training for EMS in1999; the 40-hour H&S Training Program for Hazardous Waste Site Activities in 1990; Site Supervisor Training in1991; and subsequent annual 8-hour H&S refreshers. Mr. Tumlin’s EMS experience includes assisting with thedevelopment and implementation of SCS’ internal EMS Program, conducting formal education and training, andconducting various EMS project tasks. He has assisted clients with the development and implementation of EMSswithin their respective facilities for environmental compliance and for continual environmental improvement.
