Installing BFD�: Mac OSX 10.4 or above

1. Insert BFD2 DVD1 and open the BFD2_DVD1 image that mounts to your desktop

2. Double-click on the BFD2 Installer OSX package.

3. You may need to enter an administrator password to continue.

4. You must agree to the license conditions in order to continue. When you have ticked the ‘I agree...’ checkbox, click the Next button.

5. You now need to enter a location to which to install the audio data. We highly recommend using a dedicated drive, or any drive that is not used for audio tracks or other streaming libraries at the same time as BFD2.

Click the Browse button to navigate to and choose a suitable location.

Click the Next button to continue.

6. BFD2 can be installed in 3 sizes. The two smaller sizes install less velocity layers so the detail level is lower, but the hard disk and RAM footprint when using the sounds is also reduced.

Small: approx. 24 GB.

Medium: approx. 43 GB

Large: approx. 50 GB

Click the selector and choose the appropriate size, then click the Install button.

7. Installation will now commence. Please be patient, as installation can take a long time!

8. The installer asks if you want to check for updates at our website. It is highly recommended to use the very latest version of BFD2, as it is constantly being updated for optimum performance.

9. Once the installation has completed, click the Done button and then insert the next DVD and repeat the process, until you have installed all 5 DVDs.

After you have installed all 5 DVDs, launch BFD2 from your Applications folder.

You are now ready to authorize BFD2 – turn to page 12.

Installing BFD�: Windows XP or later

1. Insert BFD2 DVD1 and open its contents

2. Double-click on the BFD2 Installer Win.exe file.

3. You may see the following message after running the installer. Click the Run button to continue.

6. You now need to specify the location of your VSTplugins folder. The installer tries to detect your folder automatically. If you require a different location for the VST plugin component of BFD2, click the Browse button to navigate to and select another location. Click Next to continue.

7. Specify the location to which to install the BFD2 standalone application and other support files. We highly recommend leav-ing this at the default setting. However, if you want to specify another location, click the Browse button to navigate to and select another location. Click Next to continue.

8. You can now decide whether you do not want the installer to create shortcuts to BFD2 on the Desktop, the Quicklaunch bar or the Start menu. Un-tick any checkboxes as necessary, and then click Next.

Authorizing BFD� – License ManagerTheLicenseManagerapplicationisusedtomanagelicensesandauthorizationsforBFD2,otherFXpansionsoftwareproducts,andthirdpartyBFD/BFD2expansionpacks.

Touseoursoftwareproducts,youneedtoauthorizethemtoberunonyourcomputer.Youcanauthorizeyourproductsin3ways.

•WiththeLicenseManagerandaninternetconnectiononthesamecomputer

•WiththeLicenseManagerandaninternetconnectiononadifferentcomputer

•UsingawebbrowserandageneratedAuthorizationRequestfile,onthesameoradifferentcomputer

ThecomputeronwhichyouwanttouseBFD2doesNOTneedtobeontheinternet.

Note:Authorizationfilesareuniquetoasinglecomputer.AnAuthorizationfilegeneratedinresponsetoanAuthorizationRequestisonlyvalidonthecomputerthatoriginallygeneratedthatAuthorizationRequest.

Running the License ManagerWhenBFD2launchesanddetectsithasnotyetbeenauthorized,itautomaticallyrunsLicenseManager,orasksifyouwanttorunit.However,youcanalsorunitmanuallyatanytime:

WhenLicenseManagerruns,itmayfirstpromptyouforyourBFD2serialnumber.

Ifitdoesso,typeinyourserialnumber,hitENTERandthenpresstheOKbutton.

EachtimeLicenseManagerruns,itperformsaquicksystemscanofinstalledFXpansionproductstomakesureanylicensesareOK.Thiscantakeafewsecondsonslowercomputers.

Authorizing a product Tobeginauthorizingaproduct,clicktheAuthorize and Activatebutton.

Atthispoint,youmaybepromptedfortheserialnumberfortheproduct.Ifso,typeintheproduct’sserialnumber,hitENTERandthenpresstheOKbutton.

Alternatively,ifyoualreadyhaveadditionalexpansionpackswhichyouwouldliketousewithBFD2,youcanauthorizeallyourproductsatoncebyclickingtheAuthorize all productsbuttoninstead.NotethatthismethodonlyworksforproductswhoseserialnumbershavebeendetectedbyLicenseManagerorenteredintoitmanually.Ifyouhaven’tenteredtheserialnumberforaproduct,youwillneedtoauthorizeitindividually.

Youwillbeaskedtochooseanauthorizationmethodfromthefollowing:

1. Online, automatically Thequickestandeasiestwayofgettingyoursoftwareauthorized.However,itrequiresthatyourcomputerbeconnectedtotheInternetdirectlyorviaatransparent(non-Proxy)firewall.

2. Via your Web browser

UsesyourWebbrowserforauthorization.Itisintendedforaggressivelyfirewalledorproxy-basedinternetconnections–thisisoftenthecaseintheworkplaceoratacademicinstitutions.

3. Via another computer

GeneratesanAuthRequestfile,whichcanbeusedtoobtainanAuthorizationfileonaseparateinternetenabledcomputer.TheAuthorizationfileisthenusedtoauthorizetheoriginalmachine.

Option 1. Online authorization

1. Tobeginauthorizingonline,chooseOnline, automaticallyastheauthorizationmethod.

2. Onthenextpage,youarepromptedforyourFXpansionwebsiteusername&password.Enteritandgotostep4.

3. Ifyoudon’thaveanaccount,clickCreate a new accountontheright;ifyou’veforgottenyourdetailsoryouaren’tsureifyouhaveanaccount,clickthelinkatthebottom.

TheCreate a new accountbuttonopensyourWebbrowsertoashortformonourWebsite.Onceyou’vecreatedanaccount,returntothe

LicenseManagerandloginwithyournewdetails.

4. TheLicenseManagerconnectstoourserver.Ifitcannotconnect,itreportsanerrormes-sage.Thisiseitherbecauseourserverisdownorthereisafirewallblockorfaultwithyourinternetconnection.

YoushouldtrytheVia your Web browserauthorizationmethoddescribedbelow.

5. OncetheLicenseManagerhasloggedin,youaregivenaconfirmationscreendetailingtheproduct,theserialnumberandyouruseraccountname.

ClickRequest Authorization–theauthori-zationprocesscompletes,and,allbeingwell,yoursoftwareisreadytouse!

Option 2. Authorization via your Web browser

1. ToauthorizeviayourWebbrowser,chooseVia your Web browserastheauthorizationmethod.

2. LicenseManagercreatesanAuthorizationRequestfileonyourDesktop--forexample,“BFD2.AuthRequest”--andpromptsyoutolaunchyourWebbrowser.

Note:Ifforsomereasonyourbrowserfailstolaunch,youshouldlaunchitmanuallyandpointitto:

3. Youarenowbepromptedtologintoyouruseraccount,orcreateanewaccountifyoudon’thaveoneyet.

4. Onceyou’veloggedin,orcreatedanaccountandloggedin,youarepromptedtoselecttheAuthorizationRequestfile.ClicktheBrowse...button,and,whenthefiledialogpopsup,choosetheAuthorizationRequestfilethatwascreatedbytheLicenseManagerearlier.

ThenclicktheSubmitbutton–theservernowprocessesyourauthorizationrequest.

Ifsuccessful,youarepromptedtodownloadtheAuthorizationfile–chooseSave to Diskandsaveittoyourdesktop(ifyouareusingMacOSXLeopard,downloadedfilesgototheUsers/<user>/Downloadsfolder).

5. CloseyourwebbrowserandreturntotheLicenseManagerapplication.Onthemainscreen,clickImport an existing authorization file.SelecttheAuthorizationfileyoujustdownloadedtoyourdesktop,(itendsin“.Auth”).TheLicenseManagerimportstheAuthorizationfile,andyoursoftwareisnowauthorizedandreadytouse.

Note:TheAuthorizationfileyouneedtoimportisNOTthesamefileastheAuthorizationRequestgeneratedbyLicenseManager.

Toreiterate,thefileyouneedtoimportistheoneyoudownloadedtoyourdesktopfromyourwebbrowser(endingin“.Auth”),NOTthefilethatLicenseManagergenerated(endingin“.AuthRequest”).

Option 3. Authorizing via a different computer

Thismethodissomewhatmoretimeconsuming,andshouldonlybeusedifthemachineonwhichyouneedtoauthorizeyoursoftwaredoesnothaveaninternetconnectionofanykind.

1. Toauthorizeviaadifferentcomputer,chooseVia another computerastheauthorizationmethod.

2. LicenseManagercreatesanAuthorizationRequestfileonyourDesktop--forexample,“BFD2.AuthRequest”.

3. Youneedtotakethisfiletoaninternet-connectedcomputer(vialocalnetwork,floppydisk,thumbdrive,CDR,Zipdisketc.).

AsmallUSBthumbdrivecanbeboughtforaround$10atanyelec-tronicsretailerandisidealforthis.

4. Onceyouareattheother,Internet-connectedcomputer,youhaveoneoftwooptions--youcaneitherdownloadLicenseManagerfromourwebsiteandinstallonthatcomputer,oryoucansimplyuseyourwebbrowser.

•UsingLicenseManager

Onceyou’vedownloadedandinstalledLicenseManageronyourinternet-connectedcomputer,runitandchooseAuthorize a different computer.

YouarepromptedtoselecttheAuthorizationRequestfile–choosethefileonyourthumbdrive(orfloppy,etc.),andthenfollowtheinstructionsinthe‘Option1:OnlineAuthorization’guideabove.

Whentheprocesscompletes,anAuthorizationfileisgeneratedonyourDesktop.Younowneedtocopythisfiletoyourthumbdrive(orfloppy,etc.),andtakeitbacktoyournon-internet-con-nectedmachine.

•Usingawebbrowser

InsteadofinstallingandusingLicenseManager,youcanuseawebbrowser(Firefox,Safari,InternetExploreretc.)onyourinternet-connectedcomputerandopenthefollowingpage:

Whentheauthorizationprocesscompletes,downloadtheAuthorizationfilefromourwebserverdirectlytoyourthumbdrive(orfloppy,etc.)andtakeitbacktoyournon-internet-connectedmachine.

5. Whichevermethodyouusedabove,younowneedtoimportthegeneratedAuthorizationfilebackintoLicenseManagerinordertocompletetheauthorizationprocess.

OnthemainscreenofLicenseManager,clicktheImport an existing authorizationbutton,andpointitatthefileonyourthumbdrive(orfloppy,etc.)

LicenseManagerimportsthelicensefile,andyoursoftwareisbereadytouse.

Other functions in the License Manager applicationDelete Authorization

ThiscanbeusedtoremoveanAuthorizationfromyourcomputer–forexample,ifyouareuninstallingtheassociatedsoftware.

Refresh

Thisrefreshesthelistofinstalledproductsandtheirstatus.

View Log

ThisopensadetailedlogofLicenseManager’sactivityinNotepad(Windows)orTextEdit(MacOSX).Youcanthencopyandpastefromtheretoyouremailapplication,ifourTechSupportteamneedsthisinformation.

Possible problems during authorizationTopreventabuseofthesystem,weissueonlyacertainnumberofauthorizationsperserialnumber,andaserialnumbercanonlybelongtooneuser!Thefollowingcancausetheauthori-zationprocesstofailatthispoint:

• Too many authorizations have been issued for a serial number.

Ifyou’verunoutofauthorizations(perhapsifyou’veinstalledthesoftwareonseveraldifferentcomputers,orifyoureinstallorupgradeyourcomputerhardwarefrequently),youwillneedtocontactourtechnicalsupportteamat:

• Your serial number is registered to a different account.

Yourserialnumberbelongstoyou-itidentifiesyouasthelegitimateownerofthesoftware.Assuch,onlyonepersoncanbetheownerofagivenserialnumber,andonlythataccountcangenerateauthorizationsbasedonthatserialnumber.Occasionally,peoplehaveendeduphavingmorethanoneaccount,withsomeserialsregisteredinoneandsomeinanother.Ifthatappliestoyou,contactourtechnicalsupportteamwhowillbehappytoresolvethesituationandmergeanyaccountsifnecessary.

• Upgrade requires ownership of existing product.

Sometimeswesellupgradepackages(forexample,BFD1.xtoBFD2)atadiscountedprice.Theserialnumbersthatcomewiththeseupgradepackagesrequirethatyouownandhaveregisteredthepreviousproduct(withthesameuseraccount!)otherwiseourserverwillnotau-thorizeyou.IfyouhaveboughtaBFD1.xtoBFD2upgrade,andhavenotregisteredyourBFD2serialnumber,youwillneedtodosoviaourwebsite.

IfyouhavelostyourBFD1.xserialnumberorotherwisedon’thaveitavailable,pleasecontactourtechnicalsupportteamforfurtheradvice.Weappreciatetheserestrictionscanbeinconvenientinsomecircumstances-however,preventingabuseofthesoftwarelicenseconditionshelpskeepthepricedown,andfacilitatescontinueddevelopment,freeupdatesandresponsivetechnicalsupport.

After authorization is complete•OnceyouhaveauthorizedBFD2,youarereadytouseit,whetherasastandaloneapplication,

orasapluginwithinacompatiblehost.OnDVD1,you’llfindprojectsformostpopularhostswithBFD2launchedandreadytouse.

•TheBFD2manualissuppliedasaPDFfile,andcanbelaunchedfromtheBFD2Helpmenu.ItisvitaltoreadthemanualinordertogetthemostoutofBFD2!

Software updates

Wehighlyrecommendthatyoushouldcheckoursiteforupdatesassoonaspossible.BFD2isconstantlyunderdevelopmentinordertoincreaseitsperformance.

Ifyouencounteraproblemwiththesoftware,itisverylikelythattheissuewillbefixedbysim-plyupdatingtothelatestversionavailableonourwebsite.

Important note about expansion packs

YouMUSTauthorizeanyexpansionpacksyouownifyouwanttousetheminBFD2,evenifyouhavealreadyauthorizedthemforusewithBFD1.5.
