[11.4] CONFEDEQASE CAUALQWPANIC .-------.

InfntyOnly

A Confederate cavalry unit which fails its moralecheck during the Tnion Player-Surn (see 11..11)cannot assume mounted formation for the dura-tion of the game (the horses have bolted). Shey donot bolt if alerted in the Confederate Player-Surn(11.21). Place an "Infantry Only" marker on eachcavalry unit which loses its horses: they are con-sidered independent infantry regiments and maygo into column formation.

. LeaderPanic

[11.5] LEADEQ PANIC[11.50] All Confederate leaders except McCul-loch and Price are subject to the morale checks re-quired in 11.11 and 11.21. Shis exception to theRtandard Qules applies only to the two moralechecks required as a result of alert. After the Con-federate units have been alerted, the RtandardQules apply.

[11.51] All Confederate leaders have MoraleQatings of 3 for purposes of the above moralechecks. If a leader routs, a "Leader Panic" chit isplaced on the unit to indicate the routed status.Leaders that panic must perform rout movement.

[11.52] Qouted leaders may not rally BWjunits un-til they themselves have rallied, nor do routedleaders have an Effectiveness Qadius until rallied ..

[11.53] So rally a routed leader, the ConfederatePlayer rolls a die during the Confederate QallyPhase: any result except a "4" or "5" rallies theleader. Important Note9 Qouted leaders are ralliedBLhFerally attempts are made for routed units andthus, in effect, are unable to help those units rally.

[11.54] Vhen leaders are stacked with combatunits during the alert-related morale checks, theleader's morale check is always performed first. Ifthe leader routs, he may Wahapply his rout die rollmodifier (exception to 8.72). Shere is no other illeffect for being stacked with a leader that routs.

[12./] QOTS AND QESQEASMOUEMENS

GENEQAL QTLE9Tnits which are forced to retreat (from melee, dueto rout, etc.) may never use the retreat as an "ad-vance." Vhen a unit retreats it must always retreattowards its own lines, and the retreat may not beused as a means of placing the unit in a more offen-sively advantageous position than the- hex it oc-cupied before the retreat.

PQOCEDTQE9A retreating unit is always required to retreat asclose as possible to a specific hex. If that hex isstacked to its limit, then the retreating unit mustattempt to move adjacent to it. Rhould the path ofretreat take the unit into the YOC of an Enemyunit, the retreating unit may Wahswerve to avoidthe YOC (and subsequent retreat fire). She onlytime a unit may veer from the retreat path is whena hex on the path is occupied by an Enemy unit.

CARER9[12.0] CONFEDEQASE QESQEASRVhen a Confederate unit retreats, it must, if possi-ble, move along the fastest possible path (in Move-ment Points) towards hex 0815, the ConfederateHeadquarters. Note9 If a Confederate unit beginsrout or retreat movement within three hexes of0815, the Confederate Player may conduct rout orretreat movement of that unit as he chooses, solong as the unit ends its movement within threehexes of 0815. Example9 A Confederate unit in hex1217 that is forced to retreat moves to hex 1016(toward 0815), where it makes a morale check. Sheunit routs: it could then be moved anywhere withina three-hex radius of 0815, even if this movementrequires the unit to backtrack on its rout path.Rtacking limits must be observed at the end of theunit's movement.

Points each Game-Surn in which the Confederateshave not been alerted at the fhBehor the TnionMovement Phase. She bonus applies even thoughduring the course of a given Tnion MovementPhase the Confederates may become alerted (see11.1).

[14./] COMMANDRSQTCSTQER ANDPQOMOSIONRCHEDTLER

GENEQAL QTLE9Each army had its own distinct organi©ation andcommand structure. Shus, the Rtandard Division-al Integrity rules (06./) are modified somewhat. Inaddition, the promotion schedules for both sidesdetail the order of promotion.

CARER9[14.0] CONFEDEQASE COMMAND

RSQTCSTQE[14.00] Shere are two Confederate divisions pres-ent in the game, McCulloch's and Price's. Playerswill note that each division is distinguished by asepara te color.

[14.01] She two divisions behave as if they weretwo separate armies, that is9

I. Tnits, including leaders, from the two divi-sions may never end a Phase stacked together.1. Tnits from the two divisions may never in-itiate melee into the same hex at the same time, nor may one reinforce an "engaged" melee in-volving units from the other.2. In fire combat, units from two divisions maynever combine their Fire Rtrengths. One or theother may fire at a given target in a given firecombat resolution, never both.3. Leaders from one division have absolutely noeffect on units of the other division. Shey maynever lead or rally units of the other division. (Ex-ception9 Ree12.0).

[14.02] McCulloch acts as CahOa division com-mander and a brigade commander. As such, hisbrigade commander ratings are listed at the top ofhis counter and his division commander ratings atthe bottom. All Rtandard Qules apply for Mc-Culloch as both brigade and division commanderexcept, of course, he may not expend his Com-mand Points on himself.

[14.03] Rhould McCulloch become a.casualty, hisreplacement" (McIntosh) also behaves as both adivision and brigade commander. If both Me-Culloch and McIntosh become casualties, Pearce(or his replacement) becomes division com-mander. As division commander Pearce wouldhave the same qualities as McCulloch: i.e., hewould be both a division and brigade commander. In this instance the Confederate player wouldreplace McIntosh with a Brigade CommanderQeplacement counter. Note9 She. counterrepresenting McCulloch is back printed withMcIntosh.

[14.1] CONFEDEQASE PQOMOSIONRCHEDTLE

[14.10] Rhould McCulloch become a casualty, his.counter is not removed from play but is -flippedover to reveal his immediate replacement, McIn-tosh. McIntosh will then function as the divisioncommander with the same abilities as McCullochas defined in 14 .02.

[14.11] Rhould Price become a casualty, he is re-placed by one of his brigade commanders. SheConfederate Player has his choice of which of

[12.1] TNION QESQEASRVhen a Tnion unit retreats, it must, if possible, move along the fastest possible path (in MovementPoints) towards the first hex it entered on the gamemap.

[13./] TNION MOUEMENSBONTR

GENEQAL QTLE9All Tnion RWLBWhejunits (only) have their Move-ment Allowances increased by two Movements
