Itwasauniqueopportunityfortheseyoungstudentsto“familiarizethemselveswiththekeyvaluesthatshapeCanada,”saidGovernorGeneralDavidJohnston,whowroteawelcomelettertothestudentsduringtheir

TheTavistockMinisterialheldanothersuccessfulEcumenicalServiceintheParkonSunday,August10,2014.Morethan300peopleworshippedintheQueen’sParkPavilionandenjoyedsausageonabunandhotdogstoppedwithMen’sClubsauerkraut.ThemeatwasdonatedbyPorkforLifeandthebunsfromValumart. Entitled“CalmingtheChaos,”themessagewaspresentedbyRev.DickHolmofBethanyLutheranChurch,Woodstock.“Godcomestousasstillnessandsilence,”Matthew14:32. PastorRichardBrownofTrinityLutheranChurchwelcomedeveryoneandofferedthecalltoworhsip.Rev.HughRutledgeofTavistockMissionaryChurchcontinuedtheservicewithprayersandsongfollowedbyachildren’smessagebyPastorBrown.GraceUnitedChurchPastorMaryStewartandmembersJeanLoweandMargPletschgavethescripturereadingsalongwithTrinitymemberRichardWilker. TheservicewasarrangedbyTrinityLutheran,St.Matthew’sLutheran,andtheTavistockMissionaryChurch.Theannualeventwasabletoraise$2,700.00fortheTavistockAssistanceProgram(TAP).

NicoleandroommateTristynWylieofBrantfordwerefortunatetobebilletedwithPaulandIsabelMoen,wholivedacrosstheroadfromtheGovernorGeneral.Mr.MoenwasamemberoftheOttawaLiberalRidingAssociationandthegirlswerehonouredtoattendaLiberalcampaignbreakfastatwhichOntarioPremierKathleenWynnewasthespeaker.NicolewasabletomeetwiththePremier,oneonone,andtalkwithheraboutherexperiencesthereinOttawa.TheMoensalsotookthegirlstotheQuebecMuseumofHistory,tothemarketanddowntownshops. InOttawa,thestudents
Waterloo-OxfordDistrictSecondarySchoolinBaden.ShetookthetrainfromWoodstocktoOttawa,herfirstexperienceontherailline.NicoleenjoysfigureskatingandisworkingonherSeniorSilverwithSkateCanadaaswellasherSilverTriathalonwhichincludesSkills,Solo,andInterpretiveskating.SheskatesinPlattsvilleandTavistockwithcoachCindyBrickandisalsoamemberofasynchronizedskatingteam.NicoleworksatTavistockIDAPharmacy.ShewastheBlandford-BlenheimTownshiprepresentativeintheQueenoftheFurrowcontestlastyear. WhenaskedaboutherexperienceinOttawa,Nicoleadmittedshewas“alittlenervoustogo.”However,“itgavemeachancetomeetnewpeople,”sheadded.SheisnowlookingintothepossibilityofjoiningaRotaryteamthatisgoingtoCostaRicatohelpbuildhousesandprovidecommunitysupport.
