Cultural Studies Assignment Fall Semester 2015 at Ming Chuan University Instructed by Dr. Adrian Huang Name: Melissa Chuy ID Number: 02270150 I. What rules are there in your family? I'm not going to say that there are no rules in my family but as far as I know or feel, it's just respect each other (maybe), not necessarily your elders though. II. What values did you learn from your family? When I was young it the main value, was to respect my elders, but little by little I starting losing the practice, as I now just respect people out, well depending whether they actually deserve it, a lot of experience led me to lose respect in elders so I just don't do it, unless I'm forced to, other value maybe would be to be honest. III. What memories do you have about this? To be honest very few, I have almost no recollection of my childhood, and my teenage years, I have clear memories from maybe... 7 years ago? And I know that I have changed or adapted the values that I was taught to fit with my way of thinking. IV. Who influences you the most in your family? My mom, I wouldn't say influence, but at least she is like a best friend that I can chat and ask her "adult" point of view. V. What rules/values you like as well as dislike? I don't mind that much, when they make me be nice or respectful towards family members that I don't like, but I hate when I have to be nice with strangers, because I hate that my behavior (according to my elders) reflects directly how I was brought up, but that is not the case, my personality is who I am, my attitude is who you are. In short I hate when people expect me to be a certain way instead of just let it flow where it may. (Though I might add that even I know that society is not that forgiving and there are certain events in life where we must behave but thankfully they do not occur on a daily basis, at least in my life.) VI. Will you pass down the rules/values you have learned from your parents or family? Not on purpose though, I am of the opinion that people pick up what works for them, if they want to learn from me, good, if not, also good.

(Though I might add that even I know that society is not that forgiving and there are certain events in life where we must behave but thankfully they do not occur on a daily basis, at least in my life.)

VI. Will you pass down the rules/values you have learned from your parents or family? Not on purpose

though, I am of the opinion that people pick up what works for them, if they want to learn

from me, good, if not, also good.
