R.A.C. rated 18.02 h.p. Six cyl inders 69.6 x 1]0,49mrrr. (2,522 c.c..\. Water cooled with detachablehead and water-heated induction manifold. Push-rod operated overhead valves set at an angle of15 degs, in special combustion chambers. Com-pression rat io 7 : i . Maximum output 70 b.h.p. at4.200 r,p.m. Four bearing counter-balanced cr-ank-shaft. Hard wearing Brivadium cylinder line;s,and hardened rings on aluminium altoy pistons.Horizontal S.U. carburettor, Enqine ]ubrication rsby gear pump, and all oil passes at 40 Ib. pressurethrough an oil filter and pressure relief valve froma sump holding 11 pints.

By centrifugal water pu:np and 4-blade fan drivenfrom the crankshaft by a V-belt, the same belt drivingthe dynamo. Water temperature is regulated by athermostat. Pulley angles have been desiqned toavoid any possibility ofbelt squeak. The sp-indle ofthe pump is mounted on two ball races. Specialattention has been paid to valve cooling, the waterjacketing being so arranged that water passingfrom the cylinder block to the cylinder head isdeflected through jets towards the exhaust valve

Horizontal S.U. with hydraulically damped pisron, fitted with Blundell air silencer and fed-ny an A.C,mechanically driven pump.

Constant voltage fan ventilated type, driven by aV-belt which also drives the water pump and radiatorfan.

By a Lucas l2-volt coil set with automatic advanceand 14 mm. sparking plugls. There is on the faciapanel an over-riding manual control for adjustingthe ignition setting when tourinq abroad or whenvarying grades of fuel are used.

The rear tank holds 14 gallons, and a il gallonreserve is controlled by a convenient knob on theinstrument panel. A large filler cap is providedfor quick and easy refuelling. Petrol is fed to thecarburettor by an h.C. mech-anical fuel pump, fittedwith a hand priming lever.

An exceptionally fine design of frame with strongside members dnd a drilled cruciform ensures th5necessary rigidity with lightness to prevent torsionaldeflection an-d piovide p6rfect stability.

The Daimler independent front su-spension is on theGirling principle and incorporates heavy-duty coilsprings controlled by radius arms which resist thebraking torque. Luvax-Girling self-recuperatingpiston-type hydraulic dampers'are used, 'and arecoupled by an anti-roll bar. At the rear, longrand rubber insulated semi-elliptic springs are usedin conjunction with Luvax-Girling dampers, betweenwhich is fitted an anti-swav bar. This desiqn ensurescomplete absence from' body sway, exceptionalriding comfort over the worst surfaces, perfectstability and precise control of all wheel mov-ement,and a perfect sense of security at any speed and underany conoflons.

Daimler fluid flywheel and four-speed pre-selectorepicyclic gear with ratios of : top, 4.375 ; third,6.825 ; second, 10.15 ; f i rst, 17.85 to 1, Power istransmitted to the underslung rear drive in a three-quarter floating type axle by means of an openpropeller shaft fitted with Hardy Spicer needle bearingjoints at each end. Gears are selected by a smalllever on the steering column, and clutch bperationis entirely eliminated, The car can be stopped ingear without stalling the engine and, since slartingand stopping require only the operation of brake andaccelerator, drivinq in traffic is effortless. The actionof the Fluid Transniission svstem is absolutelv smoothand silent, as oil is the onlv medium use'd. therebeing no metallic contact. The driving member is aribbed flywheel which is used to fling oil against thevanes of another wheel connected to the drivinq shaftwhen the engine rotates. When the accelerJtor rsdepressed the engine speeds up, increasing thecentrifugal force of the oi1 very rapidly. As soon asa gear is engaged the car moves smoothly forwardand with excellent acceleration.

Cirling mechanical brakes are fitted with I I in. drumsto all wheels. Oil-less bearings render unnecessarythe frequent maintenance of compensating mechanism, and adjustment of brake lining wear is effected inthe simplest possible manner. The hand brake is located on the offside below thefacia, thus leaving a clear floor area.

The standard body is a four-door sixlight saloonol new and attractive style thoroughly in keeprngwith the Daimler tradition'of individullifv and rehne'_qg"t. Panelled partly in steel and partly'in aluminiumailoy, and py thg use _ot steel body members andtnln rlody -ptllars lt has been possible to increase theaccommodation by. reducing the thickness of the bodysldes wlthout weakening construction. At the fronithe body is secured to an exceptionallv riqid bulkheadof laminated wood faced -with iluniiniunr. Theinterior. is ta^stefully uphol, qtered in pleated 1eatherwlrn nli.ets 01 pollshed walnut, and a facia panel ofattractively finished hardwood. A useful qlbve boxis provided with a Yale lock, Width of 'rear seatat waist height is 53] ins., and front seat 52 ins., anda recess is provided in the back of each front seatto afford extra foot comfort for rear passengers.A capacior-r-s luggage.locker is providedLt the iear,oI wnlch the drop lid forms an additional roomyplatform. A wide windscreen with thin bodv pillarigrves e fine area of visibility, and the novei irse ofcurved glass in the doors and back window increaseslnterlor room. The wings are of tasteful qothicdesign-, there are no runiing' boards, and th"e useof underslung rear drive eiables the floor to becarried to full rvidth. The deep and comfortablefront seats are separate and qui'ckly adjustable forleg reacn, and the rear seat has elbow rests and afolding central arm rest.(See separate specifications for drop head coupes).

Pressed steel detachable wheels fitted with 6,OO x 16Dunlop 1yres. The spare wheei is carried in anenctosed and separate compartment underneathtne luggage locker and is readily accessible evenwhen the car is fully laden with lLiggage.

A perm_anent "DW.S." Jacking System is bui l trnto the frame and enables the whole iar to be raisedquickly and with the minimum effort. The mechanismls convenlently accessible and is operated by asimple attachment of an operatinq handle.

Marles'worm and double roller steerinq gear ensurespositive and light control at all speeds,'and exeen-iional manceuv6rability witf a rocf oi 4]' ri--- D;i;5gcomlort rs rnstantly obtained by an adiustable tengihsteerlng column combined with an IBin. steerrngwheel.

Coil ignition with I2-volt batterv of 6g amps. at20 hrs. fitted under nearsiCe front passensei seat.To prevent corrosion and to increase sparklntensitythe batlery is earthed to the chassis oi the positiv6side. Lucas herdlamps are fitted in coniunction withsideJarnps on the froht wings. and spotllamp on thebumper_ support member. Rear and stop tiil larnpsare enclosed with the rear number plate, Twin rooflights are operated from conv6nient two - wayswitches on the door piiiars on Saloon. Electrrctwin-toned horns and self-cancelling recessed traffic-ators ar-e operated from the centre of the steeringwheel. Duhl screen wipers at foot of windscreenensule a wide and clean sweep of screen.

All instruments are grouped for simplicitv andaccessibility. Large dial instruments are posiiionedwhere they may be easily read, and the fircia panelcarrles a manual overriding ignition control, mixturecontrol, and an easily visible knob to provide ail .gallon petrol reserve. Twin windscre-en wipersand self-cancelllng traffic indicators are also proviiied, and the sliding roof, windscreen, roof liqhts andrear bljnd are all controlled from the drivlnq seat.

Special CJayton heetrng equipment incorporating atwin de-misting control can b-e fitted as an extra ifrequired. A Iarge scuttle ventilator is standard.

Three-quarter floatinq shafts with underslunq silentwor-m drive, contained in a tubular steel axle castngwith aluminium centre.

Tools are stored in the spare wheel compartmentunderneath the luggage boot, and are ai;cessibleeven. when the luggage boot is open. Carefulattention has been given [o servicing and maintenancerequrrements, one feature being the fittinq of auto-matic chassis lubrication of the Luvax typeloperatedthrough a thermal tank on the bulkh-ead. - Aqain.the radiator and front wing assembly is designeh sothat the entire assembty can be lifted clear afterremoving a few nuts and bolts and disconnectinq thewater pipes, thus facilitating engine overhaul.
