Mapping MathMaps help me know my world

Look at this map of the United States. There is a key to explain the symbols on the map. Take your crayons and color the key for the oceans, rivers, and lakes blue. Color the key for the mountains brown. Last, color the key for the forests green. Now find those features on the map and color them like you did in the key.

Do the story problems on the next page about you and some friends visiting natural features found in the United States. You will use a red crayon to put a large X on each place where you go.

2.) The next summer you and your friend Manuel are hiking for three days in the mountains. Put a red X where there are mountains.

Manuel is taking his dog hiking with you. The dog eats 2 cans of food every day. How many cans does Manuel need to take for the dog‛s food? ______

3.) You and another friend, Clayton, want to learn to water ski on a lake. Put a red X where you could do this.

Racing Across ArizonaMaps help me know my world

Ready for a Race? Things to Know Before You Go:Let‛s practice by finding the grid coordinates for Flagstaff. Go to the side of the map with the numbers and draw your finger out across the map to find Flagstaff. Now, draw your finger to the bottom of the map to find a letter. Did you find D5? (The letter comes first). Great! Using the map below and the rules on the next page, lets create a route for your race!

1. Look at the key at the bottom of the map. Color each of these items found in a dog park a different color. The tree is already done for you as an example. Then find these dog park items on the Urban Dog Park Map and color them in with the same colors as you used in the key. 2. Complete the Urban (city) Dog Park map by drawing in your own pictures of dogs and their owners.
