KOC recently organized a special ceremony to honor its long-serving employees.

In a speech he delivered on the occasion, KOC C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid said that while KOC organizes many celebrations throughout the year, some of these events stand out in particular because of the unique and meaningful aspects they represent. In addition, these events provide an excellent opportunity for lessons to be learned for the benefit of all.

KOC C&MD Sami Al-Rushaid recently said that the recent visit by the President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers International, Egbert Imomoh, to Kuwait was an example of the excellent relations that exist between KOC and SPE. Imomoh was in Kuwait to take part in the SPE Kuwait International Petroleum Conference & Exhibition.Al-Rushaid expressed satisfaction over SPE’s professional activities during the last few years, which he said has helped in transforming the State of Kuwait into a center for high quality, specialized events. The aforementioned statements were made during a reception held for Imomoh at KOC’s Main Office in Ahmadi, in the presence of DMD (NK) Hosnia Hashem, SPE-Kuwait Chapter President, Senior Reservoirs Engineer (Reservoirs Management Team, Planning Group) Mohammad Al-Bahar and Fields Development Group (S&EK) Consultant Maria Capello.

The R&D Group recently organized a Presentation Day for students from Kuwait University, Applied Education Institutes and high schools in order to acquaint them with the activities of the Group, its goals and its vision for the future. The event falls in line with the Group’s attempt to encourage students to join the Research & Development Center, which is currently due to be commissioned in 2017. R&D Group Manager Hamed Al-Enezi delivered a speech which discussed KOC and the challenges it faces to develop production, which is a source of motivation for the establishment of the Research & Development Group. Al-Enezi talked about the tasks that the Group is charged with accomplishing, such as conducting research and developing available

HSE (WK) recently organized the “Environmental Competition for WK Fields Contractors” for the best Contractor Site Office located within WK Fields from an environmental point of view. The aim of the competition was to enhance environmental awareness amongst contractors and inspire them to implement new initiatives towards environmental improvement and protection. A total of 10 contractors with 13 site offices participated in the competition. A Taskforce Team, headed by Sami Al-Kandari, Senior Environment Engineer HSE Team (WK), was formed and a contractor site office evaluation was conducted in December of 2012. The winners were selected based on the established Evaluation Criteria. The winners of the competition are:

The Presentation Day activities, which won the interest of the students, were concluded by a tour at the KOC Display Center to introduce them to the history and development of the Kuwait Oil Company.

Environmental Competition for WK Fields Contractors

KOC Participates in GEO Exhibition & ConferenceRole of Public, Private Sectors in Environment Development Discussed

KOC recently took part in the Environment Conference & Exhibition that was organized in the State of Kuwait by GEO, an environmental consulting service group. The theme of the event was “Evaluation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) & Projects.” The event comprised a number of activities. During the event, Operations Group Manager (WK) Omar Sadeq presented a paper titled “Development of an Eco-Park in Order to Preserve the Eco-System at Abdaliyah Region (WK).” The paper dealt with means of preserving the ecosystem to protect these areas and a future development plan for environmental activities throughout oil fields located in Kuwait’s deserts. Meanwhile, HSE (E&MO) TL Mohammad Al-Basry presented a paper titled “Highlights on KOC’s Contributions and Efforts to Protect the Marine

Environment.” Al-Basry’s paper elaborated on the missions and activities of the Marine Operations and Export Groups and their direct relation with the marine environment. He also tackled other environmental projects, such as the “Artificial Colonies of Coral Reefs.”“Waste Management in WK Oil Fields” was the title of the paper presented by Environment Engineer HSE (WK) Saeed Al-Hajeri, who shed light on the available possibilities of enhancing the environment and the current efforts related to waste management, a fact that reflects on the protection of the environment throughout oil fields, and the rehabilitation of contaminated areas in WK.The exhibition proved to be a success and the KOC contribution was proof of the Company’s commitment to preserve the environment.

SPWLA Holds 2nd Meeting“Enhanced Oil Recovery Using N2 and CO2 Gas Injection”

The Kuwait Chapter of the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) recently held their monthly meeting where Alessandro Gorla and Dr. Krish R. Krishnamurthy of The Linde Group - Clean Energy Middle East delivered a presentation titled “Enhanced oil recovery using N2 and CO2 gas injection while promoting clean power generation.” The duo discussed nitrogen and carbon dioxide gas injection for enhanced oil recovery while promoting clean power generation. The presenters also noted that recent technology developments supported

by programs aimed at greenhouse gas emissions reduction are providing opportunities for developing lower cost CO2 capture on a very large scale.The meeting was attended by a host of petrophysicists and engineers representing various oil companies in Kuwait.At the conclusion of the presentation, SPWLA Kuwait Chapter President Salem Al-Sabea presented the two presenters with a gift as a token of appreciation for participating.

Al-Sumaiti underscored the commitment by Eng. Al-Haddad to safety rules in managing the implementation of changes, the preemptive maintenance of Gathering Centers, his organization of several representations conducted by experts representing world companies, and his contribution as a lecturer

The Human Resources Group recently hosted the Head of Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC)’s Six Sigma Program Manager, Aref Al-Awadhi, who delivered a presentation on Lean Six Sigma. The aim of the presentation was to familiarize employees with a concept that aims to reduce errors and develop administrative and technical processes. In his presentation, Al-Awadhi defined the concept of the Lean Six Sigma and methodology, while pointing out that the program seeks to ensure better, faster and cost effective performance.

He also touched on PIC’s success story in implementing this system, and stressed that the fundamental cornerstones of the program are to meet the needs of customers and gain their satisfaction. It is noteworthy that the program relies primarily on intensive analysis of data and aggregated statistics to identify shortcomings and defects in processes or products, in order to address them permanently, as well as reduce the rate of errors.

PTD Organizes Mandatory Foundation Assignment Cycle 7 Forum

The Technical Personnel Development Team recently organized a three-day Mandatory Foundation Assignment Cycle 7 Forum which was attended by a number of UD engineers and geologists representing subsurface groups.The opening ceremony was attended by DMD (S&EK) Hashem Hashem and DMD (NK), Hosnia Hashem in addition to a host of Managers, Team Leaders and employees.The UDs gave presentations about the technical nature of their duties and the conclusions they arrived at. They also highlighted the methodology followed in data collection and analysis, as well as the challenges they faced in this regard.

For his part, Team Leader Technical Personnel Development Manna’a Al-Ajmi thanked the senior management for their continued support, which he said has had a profound impact on the performance of the participants and deepened commitment and competitive spirit amongst them. Al-Ajmi further noted that the program accorded the UDs an opportunity to present the assignments that they had undertaken during the last four months, in addition to showcasing their posters.The move comes in the context of the Company’s efforts to develop the technical skills of engineers under development and to enhance cooperation and teamwork amongst them.

The Kuwait Chapter of SPE International recently organized a ceremony to honor a number of its members in appreciation of their outstanding contributions to the oil industry and the achievements they have made to society.The ceremony, which took place at the Hilton in Mangaf, was attended by KOC Chairman and Managing Director, Sami Al-Rushaid, and a number of DMDs, along with several senior oil officials as well as the former Society President Egbert Imomoh and honorees from the Kuwait and regional chapters.At least 60 SPE members were conferred with honors, including TL New Fields Development (New Fields Development - WK) Waleed Al-Khamees from KOC. The prizes awarded included technical and

professional categories: • The first involves technical achievements such as drilling engineering,

training, HSE, information management, operations and production, projects and designs.

• The second involves services, cooperative support and outstanding services rendered by the youth members of the Society.

It’s worth noting that SPE is a non-profit organization for professionals working in the area of developing energy resources. It includes 104,000 members from 123 countries around the world, and considered to be a reference for technical knowhow with regard to oil and gas exploration and production.

In coordination with the Field Development Team (WK), The WK HR Team invited a number of faculty members and students from Kuwait University’s College of Engineering and Petroleum to visit the Company. The move primarily seeks to enhance communication between KOC and educational institutions with a view to collectively meeting future challenges.

The delegation visited the Digital Fields to become familiarized with them where they were briefed by the Team Leader (R&T Surface Team) Ahmad Al-Jasmi and Senior Engineer Abeer Al-Ali.

This was followed by a visit to Kuwait Oasis which is one of KOC’s landmarks. In addition, the tour included a workshop for the students, which was opened by the Support Services Manager (WK), Ismael

Manager of the Vital & Oil Installations Protection Department, Colonel Yousef Ahmad Al-Draiei, recently honored Security TL (Admin. & Support Services) Ali Al-Zuabi during a monthly coordination meeting. Al-Draiei said Al-Zuabi was honored for the genuine efforts he exerted and the important role he played in the enhancement of cooperation and coordination between KOC and the Ministry of Interior.

For his part, Al-Zuabi expressed his gratitude for the tribute and underscored the advanced status of cooperation that existed in the relations between both parties.

Al-Khamees adequately addressed queries raised by the students regarding the nature of work in the company. Afterwards, tokens of appreciation and memorabilia was exchanged.
