We thank Bob Gessner and his team at MCTV for allowing us to set up shop at 311 Erie Street North for the year that we transitioned from the Lincoln Way office to The First North Building. And special thanks to Todd Hawkins at Tesla NanoCoatings for the free parking. With that said, there are some details regarding our new office that the members need to understand. First, in lieu of rent, the Chamber staff will provide building management services for the property owner. These services are a minimal time commitment for our office staff, including myself. Second, the Chamber Foundation received a generous grant from the Silk Foundation for new office furnishings. Our only expense at The First North Building will be the utilities, and we anticipate those costs being low in a more efficient, new office suite. The purpose of this message is to inform the Chamber membership that when you see the new Chamber office and the new furnishings that go with it, please keep in mind that it was all done at no cost to the membership. At the end of the day, it will actually cost us less to operate this office than it did our last. The Board of Directors and I are committed to operating a fiscally responsible organization. Upcoming Ballot Initiatives

The Massillon WestStark Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors recently voted to endorse two local initiatives on the November 7 ballot. The Legislative AffairsCommittee heard presentations from representatives of the Friends of the MassillonMuseum and the Tuslaw Local Schools and we are pleased that the Board affirmed the committee’s recommendation on these two important issues. Here’s what you need to know about both:

Issue #18—Massillon Museum This is a renewal of the existing 1.0-mill, five-year operating levy plus a 0.5-mill increaseto support the operation of the Museum’s expansion project. The levy will go into effectJanuary 1, 2019. All registered voters residing in the city of Massillon are eligible to vote.

Issue #42—Tuslaw Local Schools This is a renewal of the existing 7.5-mill levy approved by Tuslaw residents in 1993 tosupport the district’s general operation. The levy was renewed in 1997, 2002, 2007, and2012. All registered voters residing in the Tuslaw Local School District are eligible to vote.

As you head to the polls on November 7, please remember to vote YES for theMassillon Museum and Tuslaw Local Schools!

We encourage our members with any questions or comments in this matter to contact Chamber President Ted Herncane at 330.833.3146 or [email protected].

In other news, Chamber president Ted Herncane and I recently attended a meeting of Ohio county commissioners and SBA administrator Linda McMahon in Columbus. On behalf of our members, we advocated for lower taxes for small business owners—those who provide most of the job opportunities in this country. We also emphasized the need to improve infrastructure as a way to encourage further economic development, particularly in our region.
