About the Don’t Hibernate Course & Activity Guide

The Don’t Hibernate brochure is published 3 time a year and Lacombe is delivered to the residents in the City of Lacombe and throughout the County of Lacombe, including Alix, Bentley, Blackfalds, Clive, Eckville, Mirror, and Tees.

Copies of the brochures are also available through libraries, municipal offices, and recreational and community facilities, and can be found online at www.CLLLA.com.

Don’t Hibernate was distributed first in 1975 by the Lacombe Further Education Council, now known as the County of Lacombe Lifelong Learning Association (CLLLA).

Through Government of Alberta grants, community sponsorship and brochure advertising, Lifelong Learning is able to continue providing this free service to Lacombe County.

MissionTo meet the changing learning needs of adults in the County of Lacombe through a network of Community partnerships.

Crystal Healing Classes During this class, the students will learn about several crystals and their healing properties. We also cover how to clean / clear your crystals, set up crystal grids, and clear your chakras. We learn how one can incorporate the use of crystals into our healing practice and daily lives. Programs Available Preschool CanSkate: A learn-to-skate program that emphasizes positive learning through play. Designed for

preschool children, ages 4 and older.

CanSkate: For ages 5 and up, the focus is on fun, fitness, and participation. CanSkaters develop basic skating skills used in figure skating, ringette and hockey. Fundamental skills are taught in a progressive and sequential manner. Badges are awarded as skills are mastered.

Primary Test: This learn-to-figure skate program can be used as a stepping stone to STARSkate. The goal is to ensure skaters gain skills and confidence and are ready to take preliminary level Skate Canada tests at the end of the season.

STARSkate: Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about! Participants learn advance figure skating techniques, take tests, compete in inter-club competitions and are evaluated against national standards.

For over 100 years, 1st Lacombe Scouts has offered boys and girls an opportunity to experience outdoor adventures through hikes, campouts, and weekend events, as well as developing social skills, teamwork, self-confidents and leadership. Programs run from October to April, with some optional activities in the summer.

Families Healthy Families: A voluntary, early intervention program supporting families with newborns to provide a nurturing, stimulating and safe environment for their children from birth to age five.

Christmas Food Certificate Fund: Provides grocery vouchers to families experiencing financial difficulties during the Christmas season. Santa’s Anonymous provide toys $gifts to children age 0-15 years: applications are available. Cash donations accepted.

Community Outreach: A voluntary program to support adults and families by accessing community resources to address low income, inadequate housing, family/relationship changes. Basic needs, skill development or other issues.

Seniors Home support: is available to anyone unable to manage household duties due to age, disability, illness or hospitalization. Screened and trained Home Support Providers can provide light housekeeping, occasional meal preparation and assistance with groceries.

Meals on Wheels: Provides frozen and hot meals for people needing assistance with nutritional requirement in their homes. Meal delivery is provided by community volunteers.

Lifeline: A personal response system, which supports elderly and/or disabled persons to maintain independent living in their home, Emergency assistance is available 24hours a day.

Seniors Information: Provides up to date information about available programs for seniors and assists filling out forms to access these programs.

Community Development

Benevolent Fund: Funds are raised by churches and service organizations to provide assistance to individuals and families facing financial hardship.

Food Security – Backyard Friends: Monthly community supper prepared by volunteers with emphasis on locally grown nutritious food. Community Garden Plots are available in the summer months. This program is o�ered in partnership by The City of Lacombe and Fortis Alberta.

How do I participate? You can participate in the exchange by bringing two strings of ine�cient, incandescent, exterior holiday house lights to City Hall where you will receive one box of new, energy e�cient LED lights. There is a limit of one box of free LED lights per adult per household. Adults must be present to claim the lights.

What is the bene�t of replacing incandescent lights with LED lights? Replacing your traditional incandescent house lights with LED lights can reduce your holiday energy consumption by up to 95 percent.

DOG OBEDIENCE: Positive reinforcement techniques will be used to teach basic commands and household manners. Among other things, you will learn how to socialize your dog properly, house training, to sit and down on command, come when called, loose leash walking, basic grooming, stay and wait, leave it, get back from the doorway, etc. We will also address any issues or questions that arise in class. A confidence booster for you and your dog, this class is designed for all dogs over the age of 12 weeks.
