Dear Church Family, Around this time of the year there are not too many people who have not already been blaring Rascal Flatt’s hit song, ‘Summer Nights.’ (‘Everybody are you with me? Let

that igloo cooler mark your piece of paradise.’) Now that you will have that tune stuck in your head for the rest of the day let me continue (you can thank me later). The days are stretching longer, and most of us go to sleep and wake up when it is light outside. People are getting their boats ready for the water, dusting off the 4-wheelers, locating the camp-ing gear, and finalizing plans for summer vacations. In the life of the church summertime often means things slow down a bit as some programs take a break due to many people being on vacation. Usually at this time I am just in the process of ‘gearing up’ for summer in youth ministry. Between mission trips, interns, events, Camp Spalding, and tons of student contact time the summer is fast paced action for our youth! But that baton has been passed off to the Amazing Jason Barnes and he has taken it in stride. I do have the privilege of leading the mission trip to Vancouver with Jason, and look forward to that time in July. But there are still many ways to stay involved in the life of the church at Congo-Pres this summer (and beyond!) I’d like to share some of these with you as well as a few things I have been dreaming about in the life of the church The Welcome Team: You may have seen folks eager to greet you as you walked into our church building on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. They are a part of our new Welcome Team. Their job is simply to hand you a bulletin, welcome you to

“Put on love, which links everything together in perfect harmony.” ~Colossians 3:14

worship, and greet you with a smile (and sometimes a hug!). Our focus is to create a wel-coming and warm first contact into our church facilities. It is an easy and non-threatening way to be involved on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings. If this is one way you’d like to participate in the life of our church family please contact Doug and Susie Ashburn at [email protected]. Doug and Susie are team leaders for our Welcome Team and they would love to have you on board! The Well: We are kicking off the summer with a BBQ at Pioneer Park on June 6th from 6:00-8:00. On June 13th we will be exploring God in Film (6:15-7:30). Then we be-gin our summer events on June 20th with an All Family Movie~N~Smores night! We will be watching a family friendly movie and creating Smore masterpieces from 6:00-8:00! Then on July 25th we will be out at Chief Timothy State Park for a dinner BBQ, swim-ming, boating, and more from 6:00-8:30! Finally on August 29th we are having a Back-To-School Fall Kick-Off Extravaganza at our usual time of 6:15-7:30. We would love to have you join us for any and all of these great events! VBS: If you haven’t already heard we are doing something new this summer. Our VBS will be in the evenings from 6:00-8:30 June 24th – 28th. Kelly Paynter has been working hard to make this an event you won’t forget. Thanks to the support of our Mis-sion and Outreach Team we are able to truly make this an outreach ministry for our com-munity by not charging to participate. That’s right – it is FREE! VBS is a fantastic op-portunity to introduce children to the love and power of God and there are many ways for you to be a part of it – teaching, snacks, recreation, music, crafts, decorations, registration, set-up and clean-up. You name it and we’ll find a job for you! Let’s make this an All-Church effort this year! Contact Kelly at [email protected] or call the church office! Connection Groups: If you are not yet plugged in to a Connection Group (this is what we call our Small Group Ministry) I’d love to start a conversation with you about getting more ‘connected’ in this way. Connection Groups are specifically designed to go deeper in your faith journey with other people. Whether it is through Bible Study, Book Study, exploring a certain topic, DVD led curriculum, the results are the same: intention-ality in relationships and in faith. I encourage you to consider joining a Connection Group. Email me ([email protected]) or give me a call if you are ready to take the next step. As you get ready for this summer, I chal-lenge you to stay connected. The opportunities are there for your faith to grow and be strength-ened. I’m looking forward to partnering with you in furthering God’s Kingdom this summer and beyond! Pastor Josh

New House Giving On Sunday, April 29 we, as a congregation, voted to purchase the house at 636 7th Avenue. In doing so we obligated ourselves to several new tasks. One of those responsibili-ties is evaluating who we are as a church and where God is leading us with this opportunity. This will be addressed over the next 18 to 24 months. A second responsibility is pay-ing this years interest that we will ac-crue. Obviously, as this is a new op-portunity this cost was not included in our budget last year. As elder for Steward-ship, I would ask that each and every one of us pray and consider giving an extra gift over our stewardship pledge to cover this obligation. Next year, knowing that this is part of our ongoing budget, it will be included in our annual financial pic-ture. Please note on your giving that this is a special gift to help cover our new house purchase. Thank you in advance for your generosity and future vision for the opportunities that God so generously has provided.

Vicky Boubel Stewardship

Diane Wilmonen Scholarship 2012

The Diane Wilmonen Scholarship winner for 2012 is Breanna Wittman. She was se-lected from a field of four out-standing students. Breanna is the daughter of Steve and Mi-chelle Wittman and the sister of Bryce Wittman.

Since a young age, Bre-anna has been both involved in the Congregational-Presbyterian Church and in mu-sic. When she was about 5 years old she discovered that she had a passion for singing and was mentored by Music Director Beth Katzenberger. With this opportunity to perform she gained both experience and confidence. She is a frequent member of our Song Team.

While part of our youth program, Breanna had the opportunity to attend the mission trips to Mexico and San Francisco. She gained insight into what it meant to help others, how they coped with living in such poverty and still manage to greet the day with a smile. She felt that God used her to help others through physical labor as well as through love. She has also been involved with Logos.

Breanna’s interests have been in swim team, playing the guitar to accom-pany herself singing, hip hop, reading, playing golf or tennis, winter skiing and studying. Singing is her true passion and she has had the opportunity to sing at coffee shops, restaurants, wine tastings and fundraisers.

In high school, she was a member of the Honors Society and invited to a Na-tional Youth Leadership forum on Medicine. Breanna just finished her freshman year at LCSC, where she is currently majoring in chemistry with a possible minor in psychology. Her goal is to become a pharmacist. She has always had an eager-ness to help people and with this profession she “can simply help people get well again.” Breanna can’t wait until she has her degree, working on site with people face to face, and making their lives a little bit better every day.

Breanna, like Diane, has a great love for both music and Congo-Pres Church. We are proud to award this $1,000.00 Diane Wilmonen Scholarship to Breanna Wittman.

Congratulations, Breanna!
