Loads of family fun and GREAT prizes! • Spring Conferences are the evenings of March 8 and March 14. • Report cards will go home on March 22 • The PSSA calendar is a little unusual this year, due to how Spring Break falls for
Pennsylvania schools. o Grades 3, 4, and 5: PSSA ELA begins April 3 - four days; o Grades 3, 4, and 5: PSSA Math begins April 25 – three days; o Grade 4 only: PSSA Science begins May 2 – two days. o Testing is scheduled for each day from 9 a.m. to noon. We respectfully
ask that you plan doctor or dentist appointments and the like accordingly. o In case of absence, make-ups dates are scheduled within the testing
window. o Thank you!
FROSTIVAL!
Frostival, our amazing indoor carnival, is this Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Enjoy Carnival Games, Spin Art, Inflatable Bounces, Face Painting, Arts & Crafts, Miniature Golf, Prizes, Raffle Baskets (cash only), Baked Good, and Refreshments! $10 per child! BUS RIDERS:
• For the safety of our bus students, you must send a note to the office if you are permitting your child to get off the bus at a stop different from the one assigned, for example, to play with another child after school.
• Students who are not designated bus riders are not permitted to ride a bus to another student’s house.
ATTENDANCE REMINDERS:
There is now a link to submit attendance on the school website. Go to the SSD webpage (http://www.ssdcougars.org/) and click on “Parents” in the upper right-hand corner. Select “Attendance” from the dropdown list. In the middle of the page you will find a
link to submit an email to [email protected]. Your email will serve as written notice of your child’s absence and you will not need to send an additional note to school. We will retain the email as your absence note.
• For reasons of safety, we ask that you telephone the attendance hotline or email [email protected] each morning of your child’s absence.
• PA State law and school district policy require students to submit a note or email to excuse an absence within three days of the absence. (See above – your email covers this.)
• A doctor’s note is required to excuse absences of three or more days.
• Until the note is received, the absence is coded as Unexcused. If your child has three Unexcused Absences, you will receive a letter regarding the absences. Unresolved unexcused absences may result in attendance improvement conferences or truancy proceedings.
• Five days of absence may be requested for family vacations. This absence must be requested and approved in advance, or it is coded as unexcused. Forms are available in the main office, or from your child’s teacher.
