The 1st "Animal Quiz Show"

What it is:

The Animal Quiz Show will be a segment of the annual National Veterinary Quiz Contest and will take place on February 22, 2012 at the College of Arts and Sciences Auditorium (CAS-AUDI), CAS Annex 1, UPLB.

It is a highly entertaining and informative quiz show on animal trivia, animal wildlife and conservation, and the Philippine fauna.

Objectives:

A quiz show is a very good platform to create awareness on animal wildlife and conservation and also to promote interest in the Philippine fauna among students.

Who can join? It is open to all high school students from private and public schools.

Each school team must be composed of three members who are third and fourth

year high school students from the same school; and an official coach, preferably a member of the school teaching staff.

A team must submit the following:

1. completely-filled up registration form 2. endorsement letter from the high school principal 3. entry fee of P500

Contest Mechanics The contest proper is divided into four (4) rounds. Round 1. Elimination (General Animal Trivia)

1. 20 questions on animal trivia will be asked to all participating teams. 2. Each correct answer will earn one point. 3. Only the top ten (10) teams will qualify for the next round.

Round 2. Animal Wildlife and Conservation

1. A five-minute video clip will be shown to the teams. 2. Teams will be asked three (3) questions about the video. 3. Each correct answer will earn 10 points. 4. The top three (3) teams will proceed to the next round.

Round 3. Philippine Fauna

1. Teams will be asked to identify the names of the animal, places and people from a slide of photos.

2. Each correct answer will earn 15 points. 3. At the end of the round, the top two (2) teams with the most number of

accumulated points will join the Face-off Round. Round 4. Face-Off

1. This is a race against time. 2. The team with the most number of correct answers in 15 minutes will be

declared Champion. 3. Five points will be deducted from the team score for every wrong answer.

Note: Quiz topics, number of questions and time limit of each round are still subject for revisions.

Point System

The school which garners the highest number of accumulated points at the end of the Face-Off Round will be proclaimed the Champion of the 1st Animal Quiz Show.

In case of tie, a knock out system will apply where one question will be asked and the first team to get the correct answer wins.

Prizes

The top school will receive a cash prize of P10,000 and a certificate; team members will be awarded with medals.

First Runner-Up: P7,500 + Certificate + individual medals

Non-winning schools will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Board of Judges The composition of the panel of Judges is as follows:

two (2) from the Department of Education one (1) from the College of Arts and Sciences, UP Los Baños one (1) from the College of Veterinary Medicine, UP Los Baños one (1) from the VKV-VLV Alumni Foundation, Inc.

The decision of the Board of Judges is final and incontestable.
