As the end of the school year is quickly approaching, we have already begun organizing for the

On a personal note I want to thank the parents, staff and most importantly the students of

ME TO WE

Thanks to all the dedicated members of the O Ambassadors/ Me to We Club and the Forestview

community who supported all the fundraiser and informative events! We appreciate all the enthusiasm

and support to make our school, our community and our world a better place! Remember change

begins with all of us! Thanks again and we look forward to another successful year!

HEART HEROES

Forestview is full of Heart! After collecting pledges for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the school took

to the field for two days of physical activity. We skipped, we jumped, we threw on target. With our

hearts pumping, students engaged in a variety of physical activites. A huge thank you to Mrs. Flower's

Grade 4/5 class who organized teams and ran the stations. Those sunny days were lots of fun!

Thank you to everyone for participating, whether you brought in $1.00 or $100.00, all of the money

went to a great cause. Congratulations to Mrs. David's class, who raised $758.00. Garrett Painter really

helped them out, being the top fundraiser for the school, bringing in $359.00! Mrs. David and Mrs.

Wilkinson's classes' top efforts were further rewarded with a trip donated by Safari Niagara.

After all our pledges and activity, Forestview's Grand Total was a heart-pounding $3934.80 !! From this,

we will receive almost $400 back towards our playground fundraising efforts. Way to go everyone!

MEET THE TEACHER BARBECUE AND FALL FAIR

Please mark down on your calendar for this coming September 29th as Meet the

Teacher Barbecue and Fall Fair. All profits will go toward the Forestview Playground

Fundraising Account. We need your help if you know of any interested businesses

who would be interested in donating money toward a playground fund please spread the

word!

A SPECIAL THANK- YOU

Our Forestview students have experienced yet another fun-filled and competitive year of athletics. This

would not have been possible without an amazing and dedicated group of Junior and Intermediate

students. The Forestview Falcons continue to exemplify responsibility, persistence, coach-ability, and

above all true sportsmanship. All character traits we at Forestview, strive to uphold and recognize at

our monthly assemblies. Thank-you to the numerous staff members who dedicated their time to

prepare the students for the multitude of teams throughout the year. A special thank-you is also given

to you parents, who supported your children as volunteer drivers, assistant coaches, and enthusiastic

spectators. Our young Falcons truly fulfilled the motto ... Pride is Forever.

TRACK AND FIELD

This year the Forestview Falcons earned many accomplishments through Track

and Field. Students in grades 4 through 8 had the opportunity to compete in a

total of three meets. Many students enjoyed the excitement of our own school meet

at Oakes Park. Over 65 of those Junior-Intermediate students then qualified for

the city meet a week later. With the spirit of determination and athletism, we returned from that

second meet earning a record 80 ribbons! The next level of competition was very challenging as 27 of

our athletes competed at the DSBN meet at Westpark. A special congratulation goes out to our

medallion winners, whom included Sara Kovac, Tea Vlatkovic, Mara Patterson and Rebecca Szambor.

This relay team earned their title “The Dream Team” as they brought back silver medals. Sara Kovac also

earned individual gold and silver medals in triple jump and long jump. We are very proud of our

students for their sportsmanship, perseverance, and determination. The following students competed

this year at our highest level of competition.

WALK THIS WAY!

Forestview students and staff are true globe trotters! Equipped with pedometres, we tracked our steps

for four weeks between May and June. Thanks to Brock University, Forestview was asked to pilot a

project to inspire students to get a move on. Each morning, we put on the pedometres and took them

off before leaving. Within those 6 hours, we walked, ran, jumped, kicked and boxed our steps up. Each

evening, Dr. John Hay and his team of students from Brock tabulated the totals, and calculated a

corresponding number of kilometres walked.

On average, we stepped 1.5 MILLION STEPS PER DAY! After 20 days, we had crossed the globe. At

major points of interest, we received symbolic tokens from the places we visited: leis from Hawaii, maps

and brochures from the Japanese embassy, soccer balls when we crossed Jordan, dvds about Egypt,

flags from England, and bracelets from the Canadian Military when we returned to our country. At the

celebration assembly, students learned that they would get to keep their pedometres. We were further

encouraged to keep active when every student received a skipping rope to keep. In addition to this, top

walking classes for each division - Mr. Piovesana, Mrs. Flower and Mrs. Darling's s classes- was rewarded

a second pedometre.

Top Steppers in the school - Primary : Alex Avdian Junior: Michael Avdian Intermediate: Emily Bilon

Staff: Mrs. Wilkinson AWESOME JOB!

THANK YOU to SPORT CHECK who generously donated the soccer balls (1 per class) and skipping ropes

(1 per student).

THANK YOU also to Dr. Hay and his team. They really went out of their way to keep our enthusiasm for

the project high:speaking to corporations, bringing us learning resources, calculating our totals and even

teaching us some great physical education games.

What an active start to summer, keep it up!

School Council

A School Council provides a valuable forum for the discussion of

issues that have an impact on the learning environment of a

school. The School Council provides input and advice to the

Principal and Vice Principal and a communication link to parents

in order that the school’s policies, programs, ,services and

procedures serve the need of the school community. Our School Council is made up of dedicated

members who meet on a monthly basis to discuss educational matters which impact our school

and community. Please consider becoming a member of the Forestview Public School Council for

the year 2011-2012. Our first School Council Meeting will take place on Tuesday September 20 at

6:30 pm in the Library.
