Reading
Read for 40 minutes. Record in your reading log.
Think about everything you learned so far about reading informational books. Read independently and every so often stop and summarize the text. Then try to identify the main idea. Create box and bullets. However be mindful and notice when the topic is changing. Then create a new box and bullets.
Writing
Writers use text features to add to the information in a chapter. Tonight, print or create text features to support the information in your chapters. Remember that you can use the nonfiction books in your baggie for ideas. Included is a list of some common text features and their uses.
Math Problem Solving
The weight of the string beans and the grapes are shown above.
I packed the string beans and the grapes in a box. The total weight comes up to 1619 grams. What is the weight of the empty box?

Reading
Read for 40 minutes. Record in your reading
After you read for 4o minutes, think about what the text is teaching you. Create little summaries of what you learned in your reading notebook. Then find a family member or friend who is willing to listen you. Have a conservation with that person.
Writing
Look at your information writing checklist (the grades 3 and 4 checklist has been included in case you forgot yours at school). Pick one thing from the checklist (from either the 3rd or 4th grade side) that you think is not completely shown in your writing and work tonight to revise.

Wednesday
Reading
Read for 40 minutes. Record in your reading log.
Readers, continue reading the biography you started in school today. If you finish it, start another. What important things are you learning about the main character in your book? What are the characters traits, wants, problems, and changes? Mark the major events in the story, too. Write down your ideas in your notebook. What major events would you include in a recap of the story? Push yourself to maximize the amount of reading you get done. Please make sure you fill out your log.
Writing
Choose another item from the information writing checklist. Work tonight to revise with that item from the checklist in mind. Remember you can write directly onto your piece, use post-its, or cut pieces of loose-leaf to make revision strips if you have a lot to add. You can also draw a line to cut out information that does not fit the chapter.

Thursday
Reading
Read for 40 minutes. Record in your reading log.
Before you read for homework tonight, mark how far youll read. When you get there, stop and think about how what youve read fits with what came before. Can you retell the sequence of events? Can you explain how the event you read about tonight fits with an earlier event. Can you see that one event is the cause of another? Is the result of another? Is an example of another?
Writing
Information Writers edit by
making a new paragraph when a chunk of thought is over
spelling content-specific words and third grade sight words correctly
ending sentences with a period, exclamation mark, or question mark
starting sentences with a capital letter
capitalizing proper nouns (the names of places, people)
Look over your piece tonight and work on editing using the checklist above. Remember that an adult may help you edit but they should not be writing on your draft.
