Untouchable
After a paragliding accident, Philippe, a rich aristocrat, hires Driss, a young guy from the projects
recently released from prison as his care-giver… In other words, the person least suited for the job.
Together they blend Vivaldi and Earth, Wind and Fire, elegant diction and street jive, suits and
sweatpants…
Two worlds are going to collide and come to terms with each other to give birth to a friendship as
crazy, comical and strong as it is unexpected, a unique relationship that will create sparks and make
them… Untouchable.

12A’Cause I have the Looks
The somewhat familiar theme of illegal immigration to Germany gets a fresh retelling from the director of Otomo. Columbian teen Charo has grown up in Berlin. Despite the family’s risk of deportation, Charo feels entirely at home in the city and has set her sights on moving up to the Frida Kahlo High School with her best friend Laura. When her mother is given an order to leave the country, Charo is determined to stay and seeks help from lawyer Jutta. The teenager ultimately has to make a tough choice that will change her life.
A short German language film Der Feldtrip Dir. Desmond Bros | 7 mins, will screen beforehand. When a German class goes on an outing to the woods, someone out there wants them dead.

“In this country we value history more than we
value human rights.”
“It’s the able bodied people that have the disability.”
“I would love to be able to clamp every person
never mind their cars, just so they can think for
a minute.”
These are just some of the opinions voiced by Galway-based wheelchair-users in the short film
Welcome to our World. Galway is reputed to be a fun loving city for visitors and residents alike, but
there is a darker side, one that is only encountered by wheelchair users, on a daily basis. Wheelchair
ramps that go nowhere, no access to shops and amenities as historical preservation of buildings takes
precedent over human rights, and a general public oblivious to the plight of wheelchair users are just
the tip of the iceberg of a serious and all too often over-looked issue in our cities and towns.
The Junior Galway Film Fleadh is proud to present a special screening of two films that deal with the
lives of wheelchair users: the award-winning French feature Untouchable (French language screening -
see page 3 for details) and the powerful short Welcome to Our World (Ireland 2012, Margaretta
D’Arcy). These films will enlighten, provoke, entertain and challenge young audiences. The screenings
will be followed by a discussion which will give our audience a chance to have their say on the issues
raised in the films and suggest ways they can help to make a difference.

No
When Chilean military dictator Augusto Pinochet, facing international pressure, calls for a referendum
on his presidency in 1988, opposition leaders persuade a brash young advertising executive, René
Saavedra (Gael García Bernal), to spearhead their campaign. With scant resources and constant
scrutiny by the despot’s watchmen, Saavedra and his team devise an audacious plan to win the
election and free their country from oppression. Based on real events, NO is the closing film in Pablo
Larraín’s award-winning trilogy exploring Chile in the grip of Pinochet’s dictatorship.

Life isn’t easy for 10-year old Ricky - his cooler, bigger brother Micha, who just dropped out of school,
is always giving him a hard time. Their parents’ business is in trouble, and with emotions running high,
Micha’s conflicts with his father threaten to boil over. Things change when the tough and headstrong
girl Alex and her dog move to town. Micha is very interested but she plays hard to get, so he gets Ricky
to spy on her for him. In return, Micha agrees to protect his little brother from his two bully friends.
Soon, however, Ricky must decide where his loyalties lie. With his brother? Or with the girl who could
very well be his first true love? Not even the Chinese novice monk, Xi Lao Peng, who exists only in
Ricky’s imagination and who is there when everyone else has abandoned him, can help him.
