Right: Soli taken from the UFO site. left: SoHtaken from Cape l Green - there is a differenceand it's never fully integrated. Maybe it's afertiliser spot, a play of light, or a lightningstrike: And it was not until informal analysis, later confirmed by formal analysis, proved

although some people may think I'mdeluding myself. The main thing is that ithappened. We were together and I'm stuckwith it. It's part of my life now and it makesthis part of England much more interesting tobe in than it otherwise would have been. I

... nformal analysis, later confirmed by formalanalysts, proved that something profoundlyphysical had happened there.

that something profoundly physical hadhappened there.

Until presented otherwise, I'm going to gowith the chance probability theory here,

love Suffollc and I have some of the dearestfriends I will ever have in my life here. Iconsider them to be family; and I will comeback here and to the UK for the rest of my life.

Jon: This part of Suffollc's particularly oldand weird?Peter: You bet, and you know better than I.There's many reasons why the book took along time to do, but I can tell you for a fact, for the first few years one of the things I wasvery busy with was separating the threads. Ithink that this had been somewhatconfounding to folks that had pioneeredwhat was going on here. I read the work ofthe original researchers and tried to make asmuch sense of it as I could.

Suffolk is rich in history and lore aseveryone knows. I t is also an area thatoccult scholars cite as the area where whatwe understand as the Anglo-Saxon/ Wiccantradition sprang from. It 1s also an areawith a long history of weapons tests, research and development in darkoperations. Radar was perfected twelve orfifteen miles from the site of the incidentfor example. The American Stealths weredeployed here a number of years before anyof us in the States were aware of them. This material makes a wonderful stew, especially when combined with otherparanormal aspects such as there are ahigh number of incidents of UFO sightingsSo it is a pretty rich place for thesephenomena, and if you sort of blend 1ttogether it creates its own confoundingaspects, something that's almostapproaching disinformation.

So you do have to be scrupulous andkind of follow things back, like you wouldin a paper chase, right to the source, andsee what is germane and relevant and movepast the rest in assembling your data.

Larry WarrenJon: What sor t of reaction have you beengetting from th e lecture tour that you didto promote the book?Larry: The people were terrific. They areonly just starting to see the size of thisthing that had been obscured. We werestarting to see the scope of this event, what those bases were all about. In fact inthe base yesterday: I jumped th e wire, went in with some crazy guys who wantedto get some footage; i t was great to beback inside. It was very interesting, dodging 'security' and all. I've beencoming back here for years and years, doing the book; but to ge t backinside .. (gasps in mock awe). We werewith an exSAS guy and some otherpeople, and we were able to see quite howlarge what t.ad once been th e weaponsstorage area was. People just didn't knowwhat we had stored up there.

The point of aU this is that these eventswere of defence-significance - no matter whatversion one wants to accept. I t hink there's agreat effort going on presently to minimalisethe event, as usual, but I don't think it'sworking too well. People are a lot smarterthan the powers-that-be give them credit for.I found out this past month.Jon: Why do you think that you get somany UFO experiences?Larry: They Wee me? (laughs). I don't know. Itouched on it in the book but I didn't go intoa lot of depth. There were a lot of things thatI didn't pu t into the book or forgot to, likemy last chapter because we were on a helluvaschedule. That thing on the railroad trackswhen I was a kid, when these things floatedup - last year I actually went back afterthirty years or so, just to look at it. Boy, itwas just as I remembered it.

Eventually my mother got to see somethings as well bu t it wasn't an interest ofhers beforehand either. I still have thesethings in my life. I didn't need Bentwaters tohappen to me - I would have been just ashappy just haling these phenomena in mylife and I had no need to integrate myselfinto these events.

I wish I'd never gone into the airforce insome regards. I wasn't military-minded tobegin with - I was a rock & roller and thatwas it. So I di:ln't need Bentwaters. I couldprobably do a book on just stuff that's

happened in my life, muchlike Strieber or anyone elsewho has been touched bythis ;Jhenomenon, whatever it is - I don' tknow where it's from orwhat it's abo'Jt. I'd like toknow.

The thing atBentwaters could be oneof a number of things. I ,frankly agree with Halton the fact thatsomething/someone elseis there. At the veryleast. And, er, I dunno, Ican't explain why it'sbeen in my life; I wasn'tthe only witness to thethings up here that hadprevious experience. Istill have this stuffhappen occasionally. Ijust don't have memoriesof being up in flyingsaucers and that kind ofthing. But a lot of thingsoccur in the bedroom, and I have had people inmy life see this stuff; andth e best thing about thebook is that my friendsand family - my peers -they're like now: 'I see.Now things make sense:And that was wonderful.Whether it's good or bad I don't know. That phenomena hasn't particularly hurtme other than that Bentwaters - I was tooclose to it .

The detractors have to ask, 'why does thisguy show signs of radiationr, 'why does hehave eye damager, 'Why was his militaryrecord classified?' (which it is, and Halt knows

that). Why was his passport suspended?'.Why? Why? Why?' I haven't heard any counterexplanations, even from Halt, which makesany sense, other than as word games. I thinkthat he's in a very different role, in a sense, Ithink he's some kind of ?atsy - and I don'tmean that disrespectfully.

I have nothing against the man at all,and I don't think that he has against meeither. I just wish that he'd come out andfreely say just what went on up here. I f Ifound out tomorrow that this had all beenone big mind control experiment, and thatall of us were 'meddled with' as Mr. Haltalludes to, I could live with that, but it isjust important to ask, what possible benefitit could have been for :hem to do that to

us? We would then have a huge lawsuit! It doesn't have to be a UFO thing, bu t as

far as I am concerned, yes, someone else ishere, there is a presence here. Ycu've readthe book - it's basically as I sa1d how ithappened to me. That's why I have avoidedtetting other guy's stories. You meet a fewother people there, bu t it is up to them tocome ou t and say what's happened tothem. I know other elements that havehappened to guys, that have never becomepublic yet, bu t it is up to them to come outand join the fray!Jon: You can't do it for them can you?Larry: They have to do it themselves. I'vebuilt some things into the book, specificallydesigned as triggers to get actual witnesses tocome forward. There are a few little keythings to get them to come forward if theychoose to. Already it's worked with two, andI expect a great deal more to come forward. There have been local people here in theIpswich area, and in the areas around thebases who feel finally vindicated in that theycan come forward and sa y things that they'veseen in the area, or things that happenedaround December 1980. These things weren'tjust lights in the sky! The whole paper trailhas been one massive lie from day one, onthe Ai r Force's side and from the Governmentabove them. This is particularly mygovernment - I think that they were badguys. I think that the MoD were just kept outof the loop. I really do.

At East Gate is a lone guard shack. This iswhere the incident began for LarryJon: Do you think that this ties in witother paranormal phenomena that havbeen reported in th e area over the yearsLarry: I think that there must beconnection with the paranormal - b e c a u ~of things that have happened in my life.would not be surprised at alL 1 believe ighosts, bigfoot and all sorts of otbthings. I'm much more open minded thanwas even te n years ago. Even I wassceptic. Scepticism is great, bu t I still ha'parts of me that I got to the point wherewas telling the thing but still not putti1my mind to it!

This is so far beyond description thatthink that the ghost stones and oththings that have been reported here (a1indeed in other parts of the world) do lilup with the UFO thing. Maybe UFOs openin this realm. There may be an int!dimensional thing - they don't have to cotfrom other planets at aU, so I am sure t1there has to be some kind of a tie.Jon: It's just part of th e way things aisn't it?Larry: I think so. I'm not a UFO researclat alt. I just set out to do this book becalI have seen the thmg so misrepresentedbooks where I have allegedly talked

full circle. There are two ladies inthis area, Brenda Butler and DotStreet who were the originalresearchers on the case back in1981. Same people try to spineveryone against each other just totry and keep up the controversy, and I found just the contrary, andthat despite what I had been led tobelievP about these two women -none of it was true. Although Idisagree with certain points ofview they have - it's a free worldand they are very nice peop le. Theyhave had a vecy hard time becauseof their involvement in this, and itwas a great pleasure to meetBrl'nda Butler and to get to knowher as a person. A lot of people paya great price for getting too closeto the damn thing.Jon: How do you explain thediffer!'nces between your accountand those of Colonel Halt?

about Roswell. Until yesterday, Ididn't frankly, know what to thinkabout Roswell. I think that thereare too many stories and that it hasall become too much involved with'big business'. When I heard, however, that they are claiming thatdummies were thrown out of aplane, it means that they really DIDfind bodies. 'Even the straight, hardnosed media doesn't seell) to believethe weather balloon y'know.

I have this motto. The cover upbegan in June 1947 and ended inJune 1997. It really has. I think thestory is out of the bag and that thegovernments are going to be the lastto realise it as usual. I think that youcould take our book (if things weredecided like that in a court of law)either here or in the States, and 1think that we would get a verdict inour favour, even from a hard nosed, sceptical jury.

Larry: Mr. Halt ts gomg to be onLondon Weekend Televisiontomorrow, and although I wasoriginally schedultd to be on theTV show with him I was banned. I

I just focused on me in thisthing, but I thii)k that I shoulddiminish in importance. I should notbe a focus. I should just drawattention back to these events.

Researchers could have blown the lidoff this fifteen years ago but they

conld h ~ v e got vtry angry about that but Istill feel somewhat perturbed because I feel

t h ~ t Mr. Halt believt>s that he has tominimalise the importance of the events. The long and the short of it is, still, that heis taking the 'pro' side. He 1s on the right

side, and so I have told everybody tosupport him!

Halt has an agreement with the TVcompany that he won't appear on the sameshow as me. His point of view is that Icouldn't have been working at Bentwaterswhen I said that I was. He says that thesecurity police came over to these basesand just sat around for ten weeks beingput 'on flight', which is totally ridiculous.Air Force people would just laugh at that! It's two weeks of training and then justOJT. I have all the documentation puttingme on duty that night and he knows that!On the other side, he comes out and saysthat I (and others) were meddled with. Heis an enigma in himself. I wish him well. This isn't personal. but like I've said, he'sdoing his job and I'm doing mine. We'reboth working towards the same ends.

I think that what he feels about it, is thatthe more radical elements in my story (andthose of a few others) are something the publicis not ready for yet. He has said as much rightto us. Unfortunately he has been placed in arole of having to support the assumptions andto play them down. It's part of the psychology.

It's like the Air Force's new assumptions

decided to drop the ball. We've given themanother chance. Let's see if the UFOresearch community is worth its salt!Jon: Do you think that it is?Larry: I think that it is too rife withschisms and factions. I refer to it as the'Beirut of the paranormal'. I think that ifpeople join together, even with theirdivergence of options, they would become aforce to be reckoned with.

I think that the hierarchy of the UFOcommunity are hidebound like a bunch ofmummies in a tomb somewhere. Once theygo, I think that the younger generationthat's coming up will pull the whole thingtogether. I'm not a member of anyorganisation - never have been, never will be- but I am an advocate for witnesses. Ibelieve that they can write their own stories.Hopefully this book will be a signpost orwarning saying, 'I f you want to go public thisis what will happen to you'. A witness tosomething like what happened at Bentwatersshould go forth very carefully because this iswhat will happen. If you can survive thatand accept that then go for it... S
