but they shouldn't forget to have

fun, too.

My most embarrasing moment was

when some of my friends sang

"Happy Birthday" to me very

loudly and totally off-tune. I had

to walk away.

High school is only a tiny spark in

the flame of life, but it is the spark

from which the flame gains most

of its hght. In many ways, high

school isthe beginning of a person

as an individual. My advice is to

take the time to explorenew expe-

riences during these years. This is

the time to make decisions on your

personal values and grow as a per-

son. If that seems too much to

handle, then just have a lot of fun.

My advice is to study hard and lake

school seriously because education is

a word that holds the key that unlocks

everyone's dreams and helps us reach

our goals. The more you gel oul of

education.the wiseryou get. Enjoy your

cause graduation comes in a flash.

when I moved here from a different

country without knowing English. I

had to prepare a presentation for my

History class knowing the students

would laugh at my weak English.

tremely expensive. Also, for the

rest ofyour high school years, just

sit back and enjoy!

I can't really name one specific

moment at AHS when I was very

embarrassed since I managed to

make a fool ofmyself at least once

a day!

You must establish goals and set out to

acheive them. Work for what you be-

lieve in and advance towards your

dreams. Don't live your life to please

someone else,live it to fulfill your ex-

pectations. Always be optimistic in

everything you do.

have to be my Freshmen year at Band

Camp.I was wrapped in a garbage bag

and ihey put sauerkraut , beans, ketchup

mustard, mayonaisse, relish and syrupin my hair.

mine was converted to agrecn-haired

very voluptuous babe. Nothing has

really seemed to be as bad.

Don't sell yourself short. No matter

how overwhelming any endeavor

may seem, look to find the right

path.

Mr. Paul Jones

Mr. Paul Jones retired this year after many years

of service as Superintendent of Southgate Community

School District. Mr. Jones served as a teacher, counselor

and principal since 1962 and Superintendent since 1983.

We thank Mr. Jones for his dedication throughout

these years and may his retirement be a long and happy

one.

Mr. Gilbert Hoffman retired in January of 1991

after twenty-four years of service as Assistant Principal

and Principal of Anderson High School. He guided the

growth and development of Southgate High School

through many changes to its becoming the vibrant school

it is today.

Overcomes OddsIn early July, 3 1 girls came out for the Junior Varsity

Tennis Team. Many ofthese girls lacked experiencebutmade

up for it in enthusiasm. After many weeks ofpractice, the J.V.

team was ready for any opponent. The team faced many

problems. One problem was trying to find another team with

enough players.

Tennis Nets a

Great SeasonThis year the Anderson girls ended the season

by placing 5th in the League and also in Rcginals.

Melissa Hill, Michelle Bojanowski, Angel Curylo, Kim

Zamccki, Chrissy Davison, and Daniele Livemois were

all seated in the League Meet. Michelle Bojanowski and

Melissa Hill were also seated number 3 in the Regional

Meet. Melissa Hill, Michelle Bojanowski, Angel Curylo,

and Kim Zamecki were all chosen as MVP's. Most

Improved went to Meg O'Dcll.

Veteran Coach Retires

Mrs. Connie Egler, Varsity Tennis Coach since

1972, has decided to retire. Throughout her years as

coach, she felt that everyone should have the chance to

compete and be active and she proved that by never

cutting anyone from the team. She was a great coach and

will be remembered by the many girls who played tennis

for her. Thank You Coach Egler , from all your tennis

teams. 1972-1990.

Titans Boast

Season BestUnder the leadership of Coach

Jack Davis, the Titan golf team enjoyed

its finest year in history with a 18-3

overall record and a second place finish

in the Wolverine

A Conference.The Titans were honored for

their efforts during the season. MVP,

Mike Clark, was a first -team AU-

Confcrcncc selection. Mike was match

medalist 18 times and top scorer 20 of

21 dual matches. Other fine players

named honorable mention in the

Conference were Dennis Brown, John

Sivi and Scott Barli.

"The Silver Fox" (Coach Davis) was

also honored as All-Downriver

Coach of the Year. He is building a

fine tradition for future golfers at

Southgate Anderson.

District ChampsCoach Dave Arnold guided the Girls'

Varsity Basketball to their second District Champion-

ship in a row. The Titan girls' matured during the

season to play their finest for District playoffs. They

lost a hard fought battle to Monroe in Region play,

but can be proud of their final showing.

With many young players returning. Titan

basketball will be exciting again in the year ahead.

Swim Seasoncan be summed up in one word-

improvement. TheTitansimproved their

times and their record. Every swimmeron the team dropped times lower than

last season and the team improved thier

record from 3-9 to 5-6- 1 . The Titans had

an outstanding diver in Jason Kupser,

who took 7th in the league meet and

made it to Regionals. Most Valuable

Swimmers were Mike Anderson and

Kirk Combo. Most Improved went to

John Addison. The team looks forward

to more improvement in the future.

Great SeasonSouthgate was one of 5 Downriver teams to

advance to Regionals. The Titans opened

District action with an easy win over Wyan-

dotte. The match of the day was Southgate's

Greg Yingling pinning his Trenton oppo-

nent in the final minute of the match. Jerry

Frazier, Mike Fountain, Mike Pipolly, Dan

Moore, Dave Cox, andTroy Kuhn also were

winners for the Titans. Ken Johnson placed

1st in Districts and 3rd in Regionals. DaveCox placed 3rd in Districts and 4th in

Regionals. Greg Yingling also placed 3rd in

Districts and 4th in Regionals. Troy Kuhn

turned out a 1st in Districts.

TITAN BANDMARCHES PROUDLYThe 1990-91, 175 member marching band was extremely

busy this year. The band strutted their stuff during four pre-

gainc and half-time shows at Titan Stadium. On October 26,

1990, the band performed at the Titan Stadium (Schafer) for

the last lime. The band competed in 6 competitions overall

and performed for the 11th time in the annual Michigan

Thanksgiving Day Parade. Best of luck for another great

marching season next year!

"The Simpsons" Do

Band-A-Rama.Beginning November 5, 1990, 175 band members trudge

into the gym for a 7:00 a.m. rehearsal to prepare for th

weekend to come. The week-long, early morning and afte

school rehearsals, volunteer work by parents and band stu

dents would pay off in the end. With "The Simpsons" as thi

years theme, the show featured unique lighting effects, 50'

music, and creative skits resulting in another traditional suc

cess for Band-A-Rama. We are all looking forward to grea

performances in the year's to come.

Anderson contest. The Master of Ceremonies were Melissa Kegley, Lisa

Blood Drive-

Please DonateThe Student Council will sponsor a Blood Drive on

May 19. The goal is to have 120 pints of blood

donated by students at Anderson High. To qualify

for donating you must be 17 years old and weigh

1 10 lbs. Students can sign up before hand and will

be scheduled to donate during the school day.

If you've never considered what use is made of

donated blood, consider the following. First, the

Red Cross prefers high school students in giving

transfusions to infants and small children. The

reason for this is humans build up certain antibodies

in their blood through everyday, normal living.

Some of these antibodies that are present in almost

all adults can be chemically devastating to an infant

who receives them in a transfusion. Young people

age 17-21 have built up very few of these blood

antibodies when compared to older adults. Hence,

young peoples blood is "safer" for infants. The Red

Cross likes to designate young peoples' blood for

use by small children and infants. Of course your

blood would not be limited to this use alone. It will

be used whrever anemergency requires blood- auto

accidents and surgery, for example.

The students have a sense of pride in knowing they

have helped someoneand maybe even saved a life!

Think about it.

The 1991 prodacti©n-Qf the Anderson School Play was a

great success. The story of a Gun B^at turned sinking

cruiseship manned by incompatent help, movie stars,

swabbies, jewel theives and maraudiar pirates. The play

received a lot ofhelp along the way. More than 100 students

were in the play. All the costumes were donated and a lot

ofmoney was

saved on the lumber used for building the set.

Mrs. Pauline says that she will return next year for hope-

Team Strides To Excellence

The Titan Track team this year worked very hard to earn self

respect. Individual achievements were highlightsastheseniormembers were

strong contenders in the Wolverine A. The team will miss Jason Jolly in

hurdles and high jump, Shawn Sage and Ken Johnson in relays, and Carlos

Titan Softball A Blend o

Youth and Experience

Varsity Softball fought to capture ttie league

title all season. Althougti Wolverine A championship

eluded them, they dominated i district t play o win

over Monroe. The varsity team was a solid team, but

lackeddepth due to small numbers. The JVteam was

calledon later in the season to help ,and these young

players showed poise and skill o ver some very expe-

rienced opponents.

Lady Titans Hit the Links

for the first time in Anderson sports history.

Coach Jack Davis took on a new challenge by

initiating a girls' golf team this spring, and

with it came many surprises -both to the coach

and the girls. While the complex game ofgolf

was new to most of the team, the girls made

excellent progress and enjoyed theirexperience

onthe greens. Acoreofunderclsassmen should

fortify the team in '93. Team members were:

Are For the Young

- and the not so Old

The Anderson cafeteria was transformed

once again into a glamorous dance facility on May

17. The occasion was tt)e traditional Senior Citizen

Prom, hosted by the Anderson students , under the

guidance of the Student Council. This most popular

event is enjoyed by all who attend each year.

Special highlights this year were a special mini-

concert put on by the choir, and the toast to the

graduating senior adult education students to

commemorate their accomplishment. (None alcoholic

champagne, of course.
