    died June 10, 1990, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Straub’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Fern Prairie Cemetery.

    Nichols was born March 16, 1905, in Belgrade, Neb. He moved to Camas in 1944. He was retired from the converting plant of Crown Zellerbach, now James River, and was a member of the 25 year club. He enjoyed gardening, dancing, bicycle riding and playing his accordion.

    He is survived by daughters, Joyce

    Williamson, Doris Norman and Iola Kennedy, all of Vancouver; sons, Marion D. Nichols, Robert H. Nichols and Louis Nichols, all of Camas and Glee H.     resident Albert Virgil Barton died Thursday, July 19, in Port Orchards. He was 83.

    Mr. Barton last worked as a sorter for Pendleton Woolen Mills.

    Survivors include two nephews, Grant Barton of Bremerton and Marion Edwards of Vancouver.

    A graveside service was this afternoon at Fern Prairie Cemetery.

    DARLENE HANCOCK

    A funeral for long-time Camas resident Darlene Hancock will be held Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Camas United Methodist Church. She died Aug. 4, 1990.

    Hancock was born January 26, 1933, in Colfax, Wash. She moved to Camas when she was about 13 years old, and graduated from Camas High School in 1951. She worked for General Telephone for 28 years, retiring as a coin telephone supervisor.

    She was a past president of the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce, serving from 1986 to 1987. She was also a member of the Camas United Methodist Church, the Soroptomist Club and the Independent Telephone Pioneers.

    Hancock is survived by her husband, Richard, at home in Camas; sons, Raymond

    of Camas and Douglas of Washougal; daughter, Pam Vrieswyk of Amboy; mother, Alice Schultz of Camas; and four grandchildren.

    The casket will be open at Straub’s Funeral Home until 9 p.m. Tuesday, and until 11 a.m. Wednesday. Vault interment in Fern Prairie Cemetery will follow the funeral.

    died Thursday, Sept. 6, while visiting friends in Centralia, Wash. He was 75.

    McIntosh was a resident of Washougal for eight years. He was a retired pastor of Church of God of Prophecy and was a former pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Camas.

    Survivors include his widow, Marie at home; a son, James of anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Dorothy Fraser of Stanfield, Ore., three brothers, Howard of Spokane, Glen of Cody, Wyo., and William of Worlan, Wyo; a sister, Gladys Walker of Kennewick, Wash.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

    A service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Brown’s Funeral Home in Camas. Burial will be in the Fern Prairie Cemetery.

    year-old homemaker, died of cancer Sunday, Sept. 30, at home. Mrs. Brown had lived in Camas since 1968, last at 26801 N. E. Ninth St.

    Survivors include her widower, Roy “Bob” at home; two sons, Steve Melton of Camas and Sam Melton of Washougal; three daughters, Barbara Melton of Camas and Debra Egan and Tammy Schahfer, both of Vancouver; two brothers, Frank Bradley and Dewey Bradley, both of Cowpens, S. C.; two sisters, Millie Cook of Cowpens and Edna Powell of Spartanburg, S. C.; and 15 grandchildren.

    A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Straub’s Funeral Home in Camas, with burial at Fern Prairie Cemetery.

    CAMAS – A lifelong resident of the Camas-Washougal area, Flora L. Dunn, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, in Camas. She was 88.

    Mrs. Dunn, a homemaker, last lived at 430 N. W. 15th Avenue. She enjoyed flowers and cooking. She was born Aug. 12, 1902, in Washougal.

    Her husband, Frank, died in 1976. A brother, Ted Loeffel, died this year.

    Survivors include two sons, Don of Washougal and Kenneth of West Covina, Calif.; one daughter, Frances Bedell of

    Camas, one sister, Margaret Gibbons of Washougal; six grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.

    A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fern Prairie Cemetery in Camas.

    Clarence L. Morgan of Camas. He died Dec. 7, 1990.

    Morgan was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Luthers Mills, Pa., and moved to Camas in 1966. He was a retired mechanic and machinist. In addition, he was a member of the Lacamas Bible Church, Schick-Ogle Post No. 4278 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy.

    He is survived by his wife, Ellen V. Morgan at home in Camas; a son, Donald R. Morgan of Camas; daughters, Ann M. Hughes of Camas, Carol M. Smith of Vancouver, and Susan M. Gibson of Seaview, Wash.; brothers, Raymond B. Morgan of Horseheads, N. Y., Clifford H. Morgan of Mesa, Ariz., and J. Stuart Morgan of Romulus, N.Y.; sisters, Marjorie I.     She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, in 1973.

    CHARLOTTE ROSE ANN JUEDES Charlotte Rose Ann Juedes of

    Washougal, known in the local area for her longtime interest in neglected animals, died May 7, 1991, in Portland.

    Juedes was born Aug. 7, 1929, in New Straitsville, Ohio, and moved to the Camas-Washougal area in 1959. Because of her interest in animals, she took in numerous stray cats and dogs and cared for them until finding them a home. Juedes was a member of the Vancouver Humane Society and the National Humane Society. In addition, she was a member of the National Arbor Day Foundation.

    She is survived by her husband, Elmer Juedes at home in Washougal; son, Terry Matthews of Vancouver; daughter, Barbara Grover of Vancouver; stepchildren, Sandra Roll of Vancouver, Kirk Nolte of Lincoln, Neb., and Steven Juedes of Tacoma; brother, Larry Wiseman of Kingman, Ariz.; sisters, Barbara Grim of Nampa, Idaho, Jeanette Weaver of Circleville, Ohio, Juanita Berkshire of Dayton, Ohio, Bette Berry of Alger, Mich., Bonnie Conner of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lena Keeney of Prescott, Mich.; and nine grandchildren.

She was a member of Camas United Methodist Church, the Navy Mothers Club of Camas, the Fern Prairie Grange, the Pomona Grange, the Washington State Grange, the Finnish American Historical Society of the West, and AARP. In addition, she was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the World War I Auxiliary.

    She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Beverly Hendryx of Camas; and grandsons, Robert J. and James C. Hendryx.

    pastor of the Community Church of God in Washougal from 1962-71. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, restoring old boats and his winter home in Yuma, Ariz.

    He is survived by his wife, E. Leona Hood; sons, Raymond W. Hood of Hillsboro, Ore., and Edwin L. Hood of Cheney, Wash.; daughter, Christy Wolfkill of Issaquah, Wash.; stepson, Howard Ellison of Kennewick, Wash.; stepdaughters, Eloise Woods of Kennewick, Wash., Lorraine Holmes of Portland, and Priscilla Smith of Black Butte, Ore.; brother, Oscar Hood of Canyon City, Colo.; sisters, Golden Fry of Tulsa, Okla., and Violet Williamson of Riverside, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

    Winters was born Nov. 30, 1910, in Southwick, Idaho, and moved to Camas in 1928. He was employed by Crown Zellerbach Corp. in Camas before retiring in 1972. His hobbies included horses and motorcycles.

    He is survived by his wife, Lucille Winters at home in Camas; daughter, Joan Croswell of Raymond, Wash.; brother, Harry Winters of Lewiston, Idaho; sisters, Pearl Groseclose and Maude Strohm of Julietta, Idaho; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

    died Saturday in a Gladstone care center of causes related to age, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Cochran & Waud Sunset Chapel in Gladstone.

    Mrs. Johnson, who was 86, was born Feb. 24, 1905, in Flat River, Mo. She moved to Gladstone in the early 1960s. Her maiden name was Davis. She was a homemaker.

    A funeral was held today for Marcelle E. Williams, 70, of Camas. She died Jan. 4, 1992, in Portland.

    Williams was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Portland, and was a 51-year resident of Camas. She was a retired school bus driver for the Evergreen School District. In addition, Williams was a member of the Fern Prairie Grange, the 49er Trailer Club, and the Twin City Saddle Club.

    She is survived by her husband, Paul F. Williams at home in Camas; sons, Larry P. Williams of Trout Lake, Wash., and Belly E. Williams of Camas; daughter, Connie E. Wilson of Washougal; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one nephew.

    Bernard “Barney” Lamont Brace, a longtime resident of the Fern Prairie area of Camas, died Jan. 6, 1992, in Vancouver. He was 83.

    Brace was born Aug. 10, 1908, in The Dalles, Ore., where he was raised and

    attended school. He worked in the grocery business in The Dalles and Ryderwood, Wash., before moving to Camas in 1947. He worked as a “cat” driver in the Crown Zellerbach Corp. woodmill for 25 years before retiring in 1972. Brace was also a member of the Fern Prairie Grange, the Camas Moose Lodge and AARP. In addition, Brace played the saxophone, clarinet and trombone for a number of local bands.

    He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Gloryann Brace of Clatskanie, Ore.; grandchildren, Keith, Brian, and Russell Brace of Portland; sister, Thelma Hart of Woodburn, Ore.; and seven great-grandchildren.

    A memorial service was held Saturday at Straub’s Funeral Home in Camas. Burial was at Fern Prairie Cemetery.

    at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Straub’s Funeral Home in Camas for Harvey E. Pfeifer, 80, who died of cardio respiratory arrest Saturday, Jan. 11, at Meadow Glade Manor in Battle Ground.

    Mr. Pfeifer was a retired spinning boss at the Pendleton Woolen Mill in Washougal. He was born March 23, 1911, in Danube, S.D., and had lived in Fern Prairie since 1929. Mr. Pfeifer built a cabin at Klipsan Beach on the Washington coast after he retired in the late 1970s.

    died at his home at 1617 N. E. 267th Ave., Wednesday, Feb. 5. He had lived 36 years in Fern Prairie and had worked for Crown Zellerbach as a fork lift operator. He retired in 1974.

    He was born Jan. 30, 1912, in Oregon City. Mr. Bruce was a member of First Baptist Church in Camas.

    Survivors include his wife since 1934, Anna M., at home; a daughter, Marilyn Walton of Omaha, Nev.; a son, Norvall Bruce of Burbank, Calif.; five grand-children; and three great-grandchildren.

    MacPherson of North Portland, a former Oregon educator, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Portland Memorial Funeral Home.

    She died Sunday in a Portland care center of complications arising from Parkinson's disease. Mrs. MacPherson was 83.

    Born March 12, 1909, in Excelsior, Minn., she moved to Camas, Wash., as a child. Her maiden name was Kreshler. She graduated from Camas High School and attended Monmouth Normal College.

    As a young woman, Mrs. MacPherson taught in Skamania County for about three years. She later earned her teaching certificate from Portland State College, now Portland State University, and taught fourth grade in Willamina for 12 years. Her husband, John MacPherson, died in 1978.

In addition, he was a 4-H leader, a member of the Fern Prairie Grange, president of the Golden Crown Club and past president of Southwest Washington Draft Horse Association. Anderson also enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, playing cards, and had attended St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camas and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vancouver.

    married to his wife, Mollena, for 54 years, died in Vancouver on New Year’s Day. He was 81.

    Born Oct. 12, 1911, in Camas, Mr. Franklin lived in Camas all his life, last at 23317 N. E. 28th St. He was retired from Boise Cascade where he had worked in the finishing room. Mr. Franklin was a member of Fern Prairie United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

    Thayer, Iowa, and moved to Camas in 1948. He was an Army veteran of World War II and had worked in the sulfite department at Crown Zellerbach for 38 years before retiring in 1986. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and feeding the birds. Mr. Graham was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4278, and Pulp and Paperworkers Union, Local 5.

    Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou, at home; two daughters, Vicki Baldwin of Camas and Sharon Martell of Washougal; two brothers, Paul of Blockton, Iowa, and Raymond of The Dalles, Ore.; and three grandsons.

    A son, William, died in 1978. A funeral will begin at 11 a.m.

    Dale Joseph Burnett, a former Camas resident, died Oct. 19, 1993, at Emanuel Hospital in Portland following an automobile accident in Vancouver. He was 23.

    Burnett was born Aug. 11, 1970, in Osage, Iowa, and had lived in the Camas and Vancouver area since 1980. A 1988 graduate of Camas High School, he was a foundation specialist foreman for Empire Concrete of Vancouver. In addition, Burnett was charter member 98 of Hazel Dell Lodge 2764 of the BPOE. Ore. For other activities, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, trap shooting, country music, wood-working and making custom gun stocks.

    died December 10, 1993, at Bess Kaiser Medical Center in Portland. He was 76.

    Kaufman was born December 7, 1917, in Bluffton, Minn., and moved to Camas in 1965. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Kaufman also worked for Lacamas Valley Milling Co., in Proebstel for eight years and for Pendleton Woolen Mills in Washougal for 10 years before retiring in 1983. In addition, he also raised chickens on his Fern Prairie farm for 28 years. Kaufman was also a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camas and the Washington State Grange.

    He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Kaufman at home in Camas; son David Kaufman of Camas; daughters, Karen Nelson and Mona Williams of Camas; brothers, Nick Kaufman of Castleton, N.D., and George Kaufman of Bluffton, Minn.;

    15, 1993 at home in Carson. He was 74 years of age.

    Mr. Nightingale was born Aug. 6, 1919 in Well Fleet, Neb. to Bessie (Taylor) and Raymond Nightingale.

    He was raised in Prescott, Ariz. and moved to Salem, Ore. where he worked as a truck driver until joining the Army in 1942.

    Following service in World War II, Mr. Nightingale married Emma Lamb of Skamania on Aug. 23, 1947. He was a member of the Fern Prairie Grange and the Church of the Nazarene.

    Mr. Nightingale is survived by his wife in Carson; daughters Juanita, Portland, Ore., Jeneille, Mich., Michelle, Elgin, Ore. and Roseanne, Ill.; sons Monte, Yakima, Terry Otto, Crescent City, Calif. and Rocky Lee, Eugene, Ore.; 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

    CAMAS – Shirley Rae Troxel, a homemaker, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1993, in Woodland, Calif. Mrs. Troxel, 63, had a heart attack on her way home to Clark County for Christmas.

    She was a member of the Central Church of the Nazarene in Vancouver and the Baptist Church of Courtside, Ariz. She was a member of the Kiwanis in Courtside and an active member of the senior group at the Nazarene church.

    Mrs. Troxel was born March 25, 1930, in Vancouver, and had lived in Camas for the last seven years, last at 628 N. W. 11th Ave.

    Her husband, Sidney, preceded her in death.

    Willard F. “Bill” O’Hara of Vancouver died Dec 20, 1993, at Emerald Terrace Nursing Center in Vancouver. He was 56.

    O’Harra was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Camas and graduated in 1955 from Washougal High School. He worked for the Crown Zellerbach mill in Camas before joining the Coast Guard in 1956. He left the Coast Guard in 1962 to serve in the U.S. Air Force until 1966. O’Harra then worked as a charter boat skipper in Ilwaco, Wash., and Depot Bay, Ore. For the past four years he had been a navigator with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, charting the John Day and Columbia rivers and Coos Bay.

    He is survived by his son, W. Shane Ellis of Camas; daughter, Melissa A. Laffey of Sacramento, Calif.; half-sisters, Ella C. Richards of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary K. O’Harra of Vancouver; half-brothers, Dennis Richards of Fox Island, Wash., Michael Richards of Vancouver and Emmett Richards of Kennewick, Wash.; and several stepbrothers and stepsisters.

    Svensen resident, 75 Ruby G. Bradshaw, 75, of Svensen, died

    Thursday, Nov. 24, in Ilwaco, Wash. Mrs. Bradshaw was born in Camas,

    Wash., on May 4, 1919, to John and Mabel Wiley Maxwell. She was raised in Camas, graduating from high school there. In 1941, she married Charles Bradshaw in Vancouver, Wash. He survives.

    The Bradshaws lived in Camas until 1960, when they moved to Vancouver. In 1967, they moved to Svensen.

    Mrs. Bradshaw is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Sherrell of Eugene; on son, Jack Bradshaw of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister,

    June Aldrich of Humptulips, Wash.; two grandsons, Tyler Bradshaw of Vancouver, and Russell Sherrell of Seattle; and one granddaughter, Tonya Sherrell Richter of Portland.

    Mrs. Ramsay’s husband, Virgil F., died in 1989.

    VERNON A. PALMER Vernon A. Palmer of Camas died March

    2, 1995, at his home. He was 70. Palmer was born Aug. 28, 1924, in Oak

    Hill, Okla., and moved to Clark County in 1941. He moved to Camas’ Fern Prairie area in 1950. During World War II Palmer worked in the Kaiser Shipyard in Vancouver. Later, he worked for Swift

    Packing House for 20 years. In 1988, Palmer retired form Columbia Machine Co. in Vancouver.

    In other activities, Palmer was a member of Lacamas Heights Baptist Church in Camas, and enjoyed cutting wood, going for walks, reading and gardening.

    He is survived by his wife, Maud L. Palmer at home in Camas; daughter, Tina Palmer of Camas; sons, Dale, Earl and Jeff Palmer of Washougal; stepson, Gary Collins of Washougal; sisters, Mabel Manry of Wylie, Texas, and Velma Watkins of Golden, Okla.; brother, Ray Palmer of Vancouver; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

    Mr. Tucker was born May 21, 1944, in Camas. He had been a maintenance technician with the State of Washington Department of Transportation. Mr. Tucker was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mount Norway Ward. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.

    resident, Harold A. Tiffany, died April 9, 1996, in Hope, Idaho. He was 89.

    Mr. Tiffany was born Oct. 2, 1906, in Camas and had worked for Crown Zellerbach paper mill for 14 years. He then operated a garage in Camas for 12 years before going to California to work at another Crown Zellerbach paper mill. He moved to Hope when he retired and enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle and fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Nazarene church in Sandpoint.

    A memorial service was Friday at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint, Idaho. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. May 27 at the Fern Prairie United Methodist Church.

    His wife of 60 years, E. Rena, died in 1987.
