Ho ld the wlre gauge In posrtion and close the choke valve b y pressfng on the piston lever in the choke housrng unti l resistance is felt. Install new choke pull off and/or choke assembly at wery tuneup.

CARBUR€TOR ADJUSTMENTS

FLOAT LEVEL: Hold float lip against mated needle lightly. f he dimemion between top of float [at center) and top of bowl should be as specified. T o adjust, bend l ip of float.

PUMP: Turn curb idle screw t w o (2) fu l l turns dockwise from the seated position. The dimension f rom the top of the pump shaft to the top of bowl cover should be as specified. T O sdiust. loosen pump arm lock screw and revolve pump arm: Tighten screw.

METERING ROD: Loosen metering rod arm screw, press downward on piston plate unt i l matering rods bottom. With thmtt le valve seated revolve metering r d arm unt i l lip contacts piston plate, then tighten clamp scrw.

FAST IDLE LINKAGE: With fast idle screw on the srsoond highest step of cam, the dirnmsim b m n the top Bdga of choke valve and wall of air horn should be as specified. To adjust, bend connector rod.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS SEE FRONT PAGE FOR SPECIFIC SETTINGS

FLOAT LEVEL: With bow! cover inverted, gasket installed and floats restlng on seated needle, the drmension of each float from bowl wver gasket t o boi tom side of float at outer end should be as specifled. To adjust. bend lever. NOTE: Never allow lip of float to be pressed against needle when adjusting.

SECONDARY THROTTLE LINK: Slowly open the primary throttle valves 11 132 inch from the throttle bore walls At this polnt, the secondary throttle valves should just begin to open. To adjust bend the throttle link.

SECONDARY THROTTLE LEVER PICK-UP: Apply light pressure downward on the fast Idle screw to move choke control lever t o the w ~ d e open choke position. The deamnoe between pick up lever and top of secondary lever shoutd be ,075". To adjust bend rear tang on throttle lever.

PUMP: With throttle valves tightlv closed install throttle connector rod in center hold o f pump arm. The dimension f r o y top o f bowl cover to t op of plunger shaft should be as spscified, To adjust, bend connector rod.

AIR VALVE OPENING: W ~ t h air valve wide open there should be 31164" between air horn wall and inner edge of air wlve. To adjust bend wrner of air valve with pliers.

AIR VALVE SPRING: 1 . Loosen lack plug. Rotate adiustment plug (inner) clockwise to allow air valve to pnsition itself ta wide open. 2. Check to see that air valve and shaft are operating freely. 3. T o adjust, rotate adjustment plug [inner) counterclockwkse unti l air valve just contracts the stop. Then Turn 1 addit~onal turn. While holding the adjustment plug in this posltlon, tighten lock plug.

VACUUM KICK: Bottom the vacuum d~aphragm by using a n outside source of wcuum. or by pressing downward on end of diaphragm stem. Apply ljght pressure on choke lever to close choke valve a$ far as possible w~ thou t forcing. The drmension between lower edge of choke valve and inner wall of air horn should be as specified. T o adjust. bend tang on choke lever.

FAST IDLE CAM AND LINKAGE: Wlth fast idfe screw on second highest step of fast idle rram, close choke valve as far as. possible. The dimenson be twen the lwver edge of choke valve and inner wall of air horn should be as specified. To adjust bend connector rod.

UNLOADER: With throttle valves wide open. close choke valve .- as far as pmsible without forcing. The dimension between lower edge of choke valve and Inner wall o f air horn should be asspecified. T o adjust, bend front tang on fast ~ d l e control lever.

BOWL VAPOR VENT (ON CAR): Wi th throttle valves set at curb idle, remove plug from air horn and insert a narrow ruler in hole. Rest ruler lightly on top of valve.The d~mension from top of valve to top of mstlng should be as apecifted. To adjun bend operating lever.

FAST IDLE ON CAR: With fast idte screw on second step and against shoulder of first step of o m . Adjust fast idle screw to swcif~ed R .P.M.

PUMP1 (2291 - 1-3/32 Inch) (3212 - 3981 - 1-118 inch) (3389 - 3390 - 1-1/16 inch) (3979 - 1 inch) from the top of the bowl cover to the plunger shaft. Install throttle connector rod (2291 - 4268 - In outer hole long stroke) (all others in center hole medium stroke) ot throttle lever and Inner hole of pump arm, w ~ t h throttle valves tightly closed. To adjust, bend throttle connector rod.

FAST IDLE CAM CLEARANCEt (3212 - 3981) with choke valve tightly closed, adjust tang on choke lever to align cam index with fast Idle screw. (3979) w ~ t h fast idle screw on s e c x d step and against jhsuider of first step of cam, adjust tang on choke lever to give 7/64 inch between top edge of choke valve and inner wall of air horn.

FAST IDLE THROTTLE V A L V E CLEARANCE: .015 Inch between lower edge of valve and bore (3212 - 3981) with adjust~ng screw on index mark of cam. (3979) with adjusting screw on second step and agalnst shoulder of f ~ ~ s t step of cam.

CHOKE DIAPHRAGM LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT: 13979) With vacuum d~aphragm plate (not stem) bottomed, close choke valve as far as ossible w~thout forc~ng. Adjust connector rod to glve 11/68 Inch between fop edge of choke valve apd Inner wall of air horn. Remove connector rod to prevent damage to diaphragm.

CHOKE ADJUSTMENT (Crosl Dvsr Type) SEE FORM M6lBt 1. Loosen mounting post lock nut and turn mounting post with screw dr~ver unti l Index mark on disk IS positioned as listed under carburetor specif~cat~ons. Hold In this positron w ~ t h screw driver and t~ghten lock nut. NOTE! Screw dr~ver may be hetd in vise so that one hand may be used to support hous~ng whble tightening nut. 2. After adjustment i s completed and corl housing and rod assembly and carburetor is installed on engine l ~ f t cover disk and open and close choke valve manually to see ~f connector rod clears sides of the hole In hous~ng cover. I f rod does not clear hole in housing cover without binding, replace with a new u n ~ t since connector rod cannot be bent without ef fect~ng callbration.

CHOKE PISTON LINKAGE ADJUSTMFNT: (3543 - 3564) (1) Bend a .026 Inch wlre gauge at a 90 angle approximately 1/8 inch from Its end. (2) Open the choke valve and insert the wire gauge so that the bent portion Is between the top of the slot in the choke piston cylinder and the h t t o m of the Slot in the piston. Hold the wire gauge in posltlon and close the choke valve by presslng on the iston lever in the choke housing untjl resistance i s felt. There should now be 5/54 ~ n c h ktween the top of the choke valve and the aEr horn. 13) To adjust, bend choke connector rod.

SECONDARY THROTTLE LOCK.OUT ADJUSTMEHft Crack throttle valves and manually open and close the choke valve. Tang on secondary throttle lever should keely engage I n notch of lock-out dog. To adjust, bend tang on secondary. throttle lever.

After adjustment i s completed and coil housing and rod assembly and carburetor I S instqllsd an engine tift cover disk and open and close choke valve rnanu- ally to see i f connector rod clears side of hole in housing cover. If rod does not clear hole in housing cover wtthout binding replace with a new unit since connector rod cannot be bent without affecting calibration.

METERING ROD: 1. With the low idle speed screw backed away from throlrle stop

and throttle values seated In bores. Open choke valve w ~ d e open. Insert a small screw drrver in a slot of step of plston actuating rod. and press downward to bottom. Using a scaTe, the dimensbon from the top of carburetor to top of plston link above dtmple should be 11/32" plus or minus 1/32".

2. After check~ng the above adjustment, open throttle valves wide open and hold 4n t h ~ s position. Check ta be sure there is no brnding between ptston link and piston cover. I f necessary. to re- adjust, turn actuating rad counterclmkwis;e to elrm~nate any bindhng (throttle valves w ~ d e open).

PUMP: STEP 1: Turn the low rdle speed screw inward until ~t just touches

the stop on throttle lever, then turn in two 42) more turns. With throttle connector rod installed in the inner hole o f pump arm, tha d~mension from botrom of '5" link to top of bowl cover should be 11132". To adjust bend throttle connector rod.

STEP 2: Open throttle slowly unti l the secondary throttle shafr iust begins to move. Hold i n this position. Measure again from the bottom of "S" l ink to top of bowl cover the d~mension should be 118". To adjust, bend pick-up arm on primary throttle shafr.

AIR VALVE OPENING: Wi th air valve wide open, the dirnensron between bowl cover and Inner edge of air valve should be 112". To adjust bend corner of air valve.

AIR VALVE SPRING: 1. Loosen lock plug. Rotale adjustment screw plug (inner) clock-

wise to ~ l l n w alr to position itself wrde open 2. Check to see that air valve. and shaft are operatbng freely. 3. To adjust, rotate adjustment plug (Inner) countelrclockwrse unti l

alr valve jusr contacts the stop, then turn 1.1 14" add~t~ona l turns while holding the adjustment plug in this position. Tighten lock plug.

CHOKE CONTROL LEVER: With choke valve closed and a light pressure applied to choke lever, the d~mension from base af carburetor to top of hole on choke lever should be 3-5116". f a adjust, bend control rod.

DIAPHRAGM CONNECTOR ROD: Seat diaphragm stem by uslnq an outside vacuum source. The dlrnensron hetween alr wive and stup on castlng should be 3/64'>. To adjust, bend control rod.

CHOKE VACUUM PULL-OFF LINK: Open thrott le slrghtly t o release the fas t rdle cam. Apply a light upward pressure en choke lever, to close valve. There should now be ,002 to .020 clearance between slot of d~aphragm link and connecting rod. TO adjust. bend connectina rod.

CHOKE HIGH AND LOW VACUUM BREAK: STEP 1: Open throttle slightly to release the fast idle cam. Seat

diaphragm by using outside vacuum source. Hold levers together wrth small clamp. Move choke vakve toward the closed posrtlon by applying a l~ght closing pressure to choke rod lever. Thp dlmensron between lower edge of choke valve and Inner wall of bowl cover should b e 1 1 132". To adiust place screw dr~ver In slot of lever and bend as required.
