    At a recent meeting of the Board of D i r e c t o r s ~ i t was agreed that a newsle t te r should be published to a cquaint the membership with a br ief his toryof the i r Association and what it has accomplished since i t s inception.On Friday, June 15, 1945, a group of fr iendly neighbors met a t the home ofOrin T& Sel ler and, with the assistance of Albert EQ Jamieson, organizedwhat is now the Woodland Park Improvement Association. At this meeting,officers were elected an d John D. Harrison became the f i r s t President.On July 9, 1945, a meeting was held at which Block Directors were appointed,an attorney was engaged and a committee appointed to draw up a consti tution.At th is meeting, a resolut ion was adopted requesting that the Associationrest rain t h Wetmore Service from using res ident ia l or pub lic p rope rty forparking wrecks and disposing o f rubbish. Also, that we protest ag ains t theuse of the City s t ree ts for test ing cars and busses, and that proper parking space be provided for employees. A permanent injunction was grantedby the Court, res tr ic t ing the use of the lo t in question to resident ialpurposes.In August, a general meeting, to which the ent i re membership was invited,was held a t Roosevelt School. Mr. Arthur E. Kuhn of Pleasant Ridge, presented in teres t ing facts and f igures regarding the proposed ai rport andPresident Harrison spoke in opposition to i t s being located in the Northwest sect ion. The Association voted to go on record as being opposed toi t s erection.The September meeting was addressed by ~ ~ John Eo Green, President of theHuntington Woods Association, who spoke against the airport. The Boardla ter voted moral and f inancia l support to the Wayne-Oakland Civic Assoc=ia tio ns in the f ight ag ain st the airport . Th e future ai rport wil l belocated offic ia l ly at the Willow Run or Wayne locat ion, as the Northwestlocation has been declared by experts to be unsatisfactory.A general membership meeting was held at Roosevelt School on March l l 1946,and President Harrison and other officers were re-elected.The general membership meeting i s held once a year for the purpose of ~ l e c t -ing off icers . The Board of Directors meets on the second Monday of eachmonth to t ransact any business a t hand.During the past two years, your Association has been active in your behalfand has accomplished the following:

    1. Prevented the sale of a rooming and boarding house as such. Theproperty was la ter sold as a residence.2 0 Stopped manufacturing in a private garage connected with a home.30 Prevented the use of a private garage as a repair shop.4. Protested the use of the Woodward Avenue Parkway for pUblic parking af ter the removal of the s t ree t car t racks .5. Requested bet ter lig htin g fo r res ident ia l dis t r ic t s and have beenassured of more l ights with h ighe r vol tage to be placed whereneeded most.6. Successfully protested the use of the vacant land on the Northside of West Oakridge as a park with tables and benches. Thisplot has since been cleaned of a l l underbrush and mowed. Addit ional shrubbery wil l be added at a future date and the naturalbeauty preserved .

Barricades have been placed and carsmust use the al ley.
