System approach of efficiency and integration

• functional point of view technical, economic, legal, organizational, institutional, financial

• system elementsinfrastructure (transport corridors, networks, nodes, terminals), vehicle, energy, ITS, human side: (users, HR)

• transport modesrail, road, waterborn, air, urban, intermodal/multimodal/co-modal

• subject - processpassenger – door-to-dor travel

chain; individual, publicfreight - supply chain;

city logisticscorridors for traffic flows

Innovation based conceptions, topics/2

• improving cost efficiency, value for money

• customers' safety• safety and security

(resilience to face volcanic ash and other hazards)

• focus on the passenger / freight intermodality, city‐to city intermodality‐

• integrated aircraft, train and bus services

Innovation based conceptions, topics/3

• integrated approach to maintenance and on board power ‐generation (competitiveness)

• integrated traffic monitoring and management approach for safe and seamless mobility

• multi objective optimisation and ‐integrated design environments for holistic operational performance and minimum powering requirement predictions to ensure the safe application of the design rules guaranteeing at the same time the right balance between safety, economic efficiency and greenness

19-20 April 2012, Beograd 8

Innovation based conceptions, topics/4

• intermodal information system to improve the passenger/ freight intermodality and allow the passenger to interact with it

• integrated information flows to individual travellers or shippers of freight before and during their travel/ transport, include the special information needed at the interfaces between the modes used in transport chains

• integrated booking and real time

planning systems for more travel modes

• integrated logistics services and

supply chains, e-freightTowards a competitive and resource efficient transport system European Commission workshop (46179)

Innovation based conceptions, topics/5

• pedestrian zones instead of empty parking cars on the sidewalk

• integrated spatial planning and urban transport developing concepts

• integrated approaches, investigating

links with land use planning and with societal challenges such as the ageing society

Innovation based conceptions, topics/6

• provision of efficient, compatible transport services (trunk/feeder role)

• better use of existing transport/mobility systems

• climate change impact• demand management by indirect

regulation - car pooling, car sharing• integrated innovation chain (basic

research – technical development – market implementation)

• user-friendly model of sustainable transportation by integrating technology, public opinion and political leadership (e.g. public bicycle system)

Harmonized economic, social, environmental interventions

• transparent accounting system, consistent tool-package

• instruments and business models for EcoMobility

• innovation should not be only technological, but also social, the "social innovation" concept includes social concerns (e.g. involved more SMEs, quality jobs, better working conditions)

Reliability*• Reliability is an important service

characteristic in the transport sector.

• The services to which targets are applied often involve monopoly provision underwritten by thetaxpayer. Hence governments have an interest in seeking attractive services and efficient provision.

• Reliability targets are important for initiating discussions between politicians, operators, providers and users on the appropriate delivery of service standards.
