What will become of us, what will,become of religion in such a struggle with paganism ? Letus do under these circumstances, Gentlemen, what thoChurch formerly did on the arrival of the barbarians onEuropean soil : let us convert the pagan masses. And thenfar from absorbing the Christian community which hasflung open to them the gates of those hospitable lands,they will more than ever throw themselves into its arms andform one people, under the powerful influence of Him towhom has been given the empire of the world.
