The deeds oflease and release were made to the purchasers on the 1st and 2nd of February,1681-1682.

page 42 .After the London commissioners, who came over in the Kent, had laid out

the town of Burlington, on the Delaware river, the Yorkshire commissioner .. . , chose the purchase from the Assanpink or Falls of the Delaware toAncocas or Raneocas creek0

In November of this year, two ships arrived with passengers, theWilling Mind, (some who came on this ship settled at Burlington), from London, and the "Fly Boat" - Martha, from Hull, with 114 passengers, who settled onthe Yorkshire trace. In I678, on the 10th of December, the Shield, arrivedfrom Hull.

This was the first ship that ever ascended the river as far as Burlington.page 50.

In a small pamphlet published in I78O:"The parents of Jonathan Stout were Richard and Penelope Stout." Mrs.

Stout was born in Amsterdam, about the year 1602. Her father's name wasYan Princes. She and her first husband, whose name is not known, sailedfor New York (then New Amsterdam) about the year 1620. The vessel wasstranded at Sandy Hook. The crew got ashore, and went toward New York, butthe husband of Penelope being hurt in the wreck, could not travel with them, and they both tarried in the woods.

1They had not been long left before the Indians came upon them and killedas they thought, and stripped them of their garments. However, Penelope

revived, although her skull was fractured and her left shoulder so injuredthat she was never able to use it like the other, besides she was so cutacross the body that her bowels protruded, and she was obliged to keep herhand upon the wound.

In this situation she continued for seven days, taking shelter in ahollow tree, living on what she could pick off from the tree. On theseventh day she saw a deer pass with arrows sticking in it, and soon afterappeared two Indians, whom she was glad to see, hoping they would put herout of her misery. Accordingly, one made towards her, to knock her in thehead; but the other (who was an elderly man), prevented him, and throwinghis watchcoat about her took her to his wigwam and cured her of her wounds.Afterwards he took her to New York and presented her to her countrymen, expecting a present in return, no doubt. It was in New York that RichardStout married her, in her 22nd year. He was from England, of a good family, and in his 40th year. They had several children, and Mrs. Stout lived tothe age of 110 years, and saw her offspring multiplied to 502 in about88 years." [Verbatim as published in 1790].
