Caut ionWe are so exci ted to see your creat ion! As the art ist- in-charge, be sure that you and others helping read the fol lowing t ips to ensure the overal l safety of your chi ld and the DOC Band®:

Only use mater ia ls that are labeled “chi ld safe”.

Always keep the inner foam l iner f ree f rom any paint or mater ia ls by placing a towel inside and taping off the edges.

Be caut ious of harmful fumes certain decorat ing products produce.

Do not sand the outside of the band as i t could reduce holding pressures.

Be aware that adding at tachments (e.g. , bows) could pose a choking hazard i f they fa l l off .

Do not at tempt to paint or decorate underneath the strap or chafe and loop. This can put undue stress on the r ivets, possibly causing them to break.

Your DOC BandDecorating Toolkit

Whether you’re new to the arts and craf ts scene or a seasoned pro, here are some chi ld-safe opt ions for decking out your DOC Band:

Adhesives Ideas:

Stickers (scrapbooking st ickers, rub-on transfers)

Decals

Paint & Sealant Options:

Acryl ic Paint (Folk Art®, Apple Barrel® brands)

Water-based latex paints

Paint markers/pens (Painters®, DecoColor Opaque®)

ModPodge

Stickers, rub-on transfers and decals are popular decorat ing mater ia ls. Af ter apply ing them to the outside plast ic shel l , use several coats of ModPodge to seal . You may also have to re-apply the ModPodge sealant weekly to maintain the design.

You wi l l be able to f requent ly change the st ickers whether you use ModPodge or not. In order to get the st ickers off the band, you may try using a smal l amount of nai l pol ish remover containing acetone in order to break down the glue on the st icker.

When is the best time to unleash your inner Rembrandt?

The t ime “off ” dur ing in i t ia l skin checks and dur ing the one hour break for bathing are real ly the best t imes.

Working on your masterpiece in smal l stages (paint one day, st ickers the next) can also be a great way to ensure that mater ia ls have t ime to dry and your baby doesn’ t miss any valuable growth t ime.

To help your artwork dry faster, p lease do not apply any type of heat, as i t could compromise the DOC Band. Instead, a safe opt ion is to place your l i t t le one’s DOC Band in f ront of a fan on the “ low” set t ing.

DOC Band ReplacementDecorat ing is a fun and creat ive way to help your fami ly through the DOC Band process. Just remember that the pr imary purpose of the DOC Band is to help your chi ld achieve a corrected head shape. I f decorat ing mater ia ls or processes compromise the DOC Band’s abi l i ty to do this, the replacement cost is the parents’ responsibi l i ty.
