Sanyaasashram is th e fourth stage of life. O n e should give up a ll activities related to Dharma, Artha and Kama in this stage. He should not stay in village or town fo r more than five days. He should s us ta in h is life on alms. 3.3.10 Customs and Consecrations A t the time of childbirth, it is th e father  s responsibility to carry ou t certain customs a n d consecrations fo r the child. First of all, Jatakarma Sanskara is carried ou t by which th e newly born baby is included in th e family. During this custom,  Brahmin couple is fed. It is also necessary fo r the couple that they should si t facing east while feeding. Thereafter, the parents should offer oblations to appease the gods a n d dead ancestors. Lumps made o f barley flour, curd a n d berries should b e offered as oblations. Similar consecrations are carried o ut at th e time of children  s marriage. O n th e tenth da y after th e birth, th e naming ceremony is carried out. Different castes a nd religion have different traditions regarding naming the newly born child. It is commonly seen that most of th e children are named after th e deities and gods. Still one should see that th e name should no t b e meaningless, abusive or inauspicious. Practice of selecting exceptionally long and difficult to pronounce n am es should also be avoided. The second stage in  child  s life is when h e or s h e begins education. In ancient times, thread ceremony used to b e carried out and the children were sent to their teacher  s hermitage fo r education. In modern age thread ceremony is followed more or less in similar way  s it used to b e in th e past. But children are no t sent to Gurukul for education any more. After completing education,  person should g e t married and run h is own life. In th e past, there had been elaborate rituals for the selection of suitable bride. Elders of th e house used to select  proper match fo r the boy. Their choice in most cases depended on many attributes and bodily features of th e girl. B u t in modern age with increased interaction among the people, it is n o t possible to follow each a n d every custom related to selection of bride. Still one should take care no t to marry in h is mother  s lineage fo r up to fifth generation and in his father  s lineage up to seventh generation. 3.3.11 Description o f Righteousness A married man knows the importance of following a righteous discourse. Married life is like a penance in which  couple g iv es birth an d raises next generation. A married man is expected to ge t up early in the morning and contemplate on religious It helps to follow righteous He is expected to attend nature  s in natural environment away from his house. Soil is considered th e best means to wash hands. It should be followed by cleansing of the body. He should then offer oblations wearing fresh clothes to sages deities a nd his dead ancestors. Offering oblations to th e Sun, worship of tutelary god and other deities follows then. If the household is having some cattle, the head of th e family should himself milk them and then w ait for th e guest. If a n d when  guest arrives, th e head o f th e family must offer h im  seat respectfully a n d treat h im well with delicious food a nd pleasant talk. In Indian tradition,  guest is regarded equal to  deity. He should take food only after feeding the guest. Evening time has also elaborate rituals fo r  married man. First of all, after finishing daily chores,  married man must worship with peaceful mind. It is also good fo r his health to take food early in the evening and retire to  wooden bedstead. Night time is considered suitable perod fo r enjoying carnal pleasure. Here too,  married man should enjoy intimacy with h is wife only.
