WelcomeDear colleagues, dear friends of the ISMST,

It is a great honor and a pleasure to invite you all to the 17th International Congress of the ISMST, that will be held in Milan from 26 to 28 June 2014, at the Congress Center of Humanitas Research Hospital. On the 25 June 2014, the Instructional Certification Course will take place, held by ISMST certified instructors.

The Program will include Basic Science and Clinical Practice, with classic common indications in bone and soft tissue pathologies. A special emphasis will be given to new applications, focused both on Regenerative Medicine and those therapeutic indications still in the experimental phase.

We will have the opportunity to share many ideas, all our experiences, new scientific hypothesis, thera-peutic perspectives, and to clarify some doubts. Moreover, in the Meeting of Milan 2014, we will welcome some Guest Scientific Societies. Their most representative members, will be invited to actively participate - as mediators - in our scientific sessions.

Abstract submission expired on March 31, and we are glad to say that we received highly interesting papers from various topics in shockwave therapy. It is also a great pleasure to announce to you, also for this year’s meeting, an award endowed with Euro 500 for the best paper presented. The award will be handed over on Saturday 29 June 2014, during the Closing Ceremony.

A Medical Fair will take place during the conference, where state-of-the-art development and technical standards of extracorporeal shockwave equipment will be presented. We are grateful in advance to all the industries that are going to support our international ISMST Congress in 2014.

We are also pleased to cordially invite and welcome you to some special Social Events, which will make you feel and live the typical atmosphere of Milan, both modern and of the old days as well. These particular moments will be occasions for sharing all together, with your families as well, some very pleasant and unforgettable moments of fun, accompanied by good food & wine, and welcomed by the typical and charming Italian hospitality, that will make you feel special guests and will make you want to come back… Please, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy Milan with all its different attractions!

On behalf of the International Society for Medical Shock Wave Treatment and the Organizing Committee, I am looking forward to welcome you all in Milan!

Yours sincerely,

Maria Cristina D’Agostino President of ISMST

Humanitas Congress Center

The Congress Center of Humanitas Research Hospital is located nearby Milan, close to the main motorways, and is the ideal place where events, congresses, training courses and company meetings can be held. Humanitas Congress Centre is settled by Humanitas Research Hospital (Building 2) – general hospital and research centre (IRCCS) – acknowledged by the Ministry of Health and by Regione Lombardia, as one of the centres which outstand for the quality of its cares and the capacity to transfer the innovation and research results into the daily hospital activity.

The main part of the Congress Center is located inside the Research and Didactics Center (Building 7), which also houses the University of Milan, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Biotechnology. It features 11 multifunctional spaces with capacity from 20 to 500 seats, exhibition areas, audio-video technologies and all additional services most innovative in the industry.

Exhibition area

The areas of Humanitas Congress Centre can host any kind of exhibitions: different sizes of commercial boots and even more complex settings, for any kind of event. The flexibility of the exhibition areas allows to easily fit the spaces to the different needs. All exhibition areas are equipped with telephone line, wi-fi coverage, electric supply and illumination.

Architectural features

The architecture outside the University Research and Didactics Centre, projected designed by James Gowan, combines simple and clean, horizontal and vertical volumes, with different sizes and shapes. Birchwood boiserie is a main feature of the meeting rooms and helps controlling the acoustics. The lighting appliances, fully embedded in the architectural structure, privilege soft light optics, without dazzlement and direct emissions.

Maps & directions

Humanitas Congress Center is not equipped with the hotel inside its structure. For this reason an agreement was made, at a special rate, with the Atahotel Quark – Milan, a good hotel nearby (please visit the section Book Hotel for detailed informations and booking).

Both the Congress Center and the Atahotel Quark are well-connected each other and with the center of Milan, by public transports, the same used by the patients of the hospital.

A special service of bus – shuttles will be made available for the congress participants during the days of the Meeting. Moreover, from the Congress Center (and the Atahotel Quark as well), within a short time, by taxi, you can easily reach the closest Metro Station, towards the Center of the city.

Social events and programs

We are glad to offer you a wide range of social events and programs

ISMST Welcome Party

On Thursday, June 26, all participants are cordially invited to participate to ISMST Welcome Party which will be celebrated at the amazing Memo Restaurant Music Club in Milan.

Memo is a typical example of building reconversion: it was an old cinema, built at the end of the 50s and now a restaurant. The architect Memo Colucci decided to bring the cinema back to its old splendor: the interior is inspired to a dreamer travel experience, walking trough ancient objects and overseas music atmosphere. The stage is the soul of the club; it is the origin of the music and represents the reason why people gather. Here, a wide range of artists is offered (jazz, pop, blues, singer-songwriter)

The main-character of the Memo is obviously the menu: it is possible to taste typical Italian food, from meat, to desserts, to appetizer such as pizza and focaccia bread.

Congress participants with their accompanying person(s) are cordially welcome to join this social evening at a fee of € 40 per person.

ISMST Welcome Party is not included into congress fee.

Presidential Dinner

On Friday, June 28, the official ISMST Presidential Dinner will take place in a picturesque setting into one of the most impressive location in downtown Milano: National Museum of Science and Technology.

The Museum houses the largest world collection of models interpreting Leonardo’s drawings. Created in the 1950s, it is the first to have dealt systematically with Leonardo da Vinci’s sci-entific-technical studies. Today, these models represent an exceptional tool for the study and dissemination of Leonardo’s technical-scientific work, as well as having a unique educational value. A selection of models is permanently exhibited in the Leonardo Gallery. The Museum works on developing interpretation tools related to this important collection: interactive workshops, multimedia, 3D animations to better understand the functioning of the machines, games, thematic studies on the website, and a recent free Italian and English iPhone App “LeonardoAround” dedicated to the exploration of Leonardo’s work and legacy in Milan.

With exhibitions, workshops and seminars, the Museum engages in the worldwide dissemina-tion of knowledge on Leonardo da Vinci’s work. Among recent international collaborations are: the exhibition "Léonard de Vinci, projets, dessins, machines" by Universcience in collabo-ration with the Museum and the Deutsches Museum, in Paris until August 2013; the displays "Leonardo da Vinci and the Ideal City" at the Urban Footprint Pavilion Expo 2010 Shanghai in China; "Leonardo da Vinci. Nature, art & science" at the Incheon Triennial in South Korea in 2009; “Leonardo da Vinci workshop caravan" in Japan in 2009.

Sala Colonne (Columns Hall), where the event will take place, is the antique library of the Olivetan monastery; it is a fascinating space that overlooks two beautiful Renaissance cloisters. The elegant architecture, marked by a succession of arches and columns, makes this room ideal for hosting exclusive events. Founded to host the monks of the Olivetan order, the cen-tral body of the Museum was built in the early 16th century as a monastery.

Education is one of the main purposes of a museum and it has been a fundamental objective at the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo Da Vinci since it was founded. Italy’s largest technical-scientific Museum is also a unique resource for everyone. The Educa-tion Department staff works with the aim of making the Museum a place for discovery, expe-rience, understanding and inspiration accessible to all.

The Presidential dinner is included into congress fee. Congress participants are also invited to bring accompanying guests. The fee is € 60 per accompanying guest.
