HSBA tournaments 2017/18

A full programme of age-group tournaments is once again being offered by HSBA this season. The first one

took place on October 29th 2017, and the tournament organiser’s report of these events is on Page 3. Full

U18 Herts Restricted tournament 29th

Triple crowns for Abbie and Chris. The season kicked off in fine style at Birchwood Leisure Centre with some outstanding performances by our triple crowners. Abbie Smith delighted the crowd with wins in the Singles, Doubles and Mixed. In a round robin singles box of four she beat Molly Goode, Olivia Clark and Amelia Dixon into 2nd 3rd and 4th places respectively, in the doubles box of three, she triumphed over Olivia and Amelia, and Manisha Fernando & Francesca Figueredo and in the Mixed, partnering Chris Adey in a box of 5 she beat Molly & Cameron, and Olivia and Steven into second and third places. In the boys competition, Chris Adey mirrored Abbie’s success, soaring his way to the singles title, beating Steven Elliot to top spot 21-14, with Cameron Bannister and Tommy Corteen as semi finalists, he picked up yet another shield in the doubles (partnering Steven Elliot) where they beat Cameron Bannister and Rees Clarke (semi finalists were Zack Bobrowski/Tommy Corteen and Harry Goode/ Thomas Sweetnam), and the mixed victory with Abbie has been detailed above. Where there were enough competitors to run a plate (Boys singles and doubles) the top spot went to Thomas Sweetnam in the singles who beat Finlay Cattermole in a close 21-19, and in the doubles Toby Goddard and Finlay beat Dion Chan and Joseph Waugh 21-12. Many thanks to Graham Hall who organised the draw and Jo Trerise Clark who was a whizz on the desk.

Badminton England grading promotions Congratulations to the following player who achieved their first grading this season: Grade I: Jack Moylan BE publishes an updated grading list four times a year on the last Friday of July, October, January & April. Full details of the grading system and the latest list can be found on the BE web-site at: www.badmintonengland.co.uk Then click on competition and select National Grading’s then scroll down and click find your current grading, you will then be able to filter the information. Alternatively you can go to the following website: www.be.tournamentsoftware.com Then on the right hand side of the page you will see player grading’s click go to grading’s page which will take you to the page you require and you can then filter the information. Again you can use the same process to find your national rankings which are updated on a monthly basis.
