Present Progressive

•Used to say what people are doing or what is happening right now

•Estamos lavando el carro.

•We are washing the car.

The present progressive tense uses the forms of estar with the present

participle (yo) estoy

(nosotros, nosotras) estamos

(tú) estás (vosotros, vosotras) estáis

(él, ella, usted) está (ellos, ellas) están

The forms of estar change to match the subject of the sentence.

To form the present participle

• For –ar verbs, remove the –ar ending and add –ando

• Ex: preparar prepar + ando preparando

• For –er and –ir verbs, remove the –er or –ir ending and add –iendo

• Ex: comer com + iendo comiendo

• The present participle always stays the same regardless of who the subject is
