BROADCAST ENGINEERING SOCIETY (INDIA)
According to the EY-FICCI Report Re-imagining India’s Media & Entertainment Sector published in March 2018, the Indian media and entertainment industry, pegged at Rs.1,308 billion in 2016, is expected to reach a figure of Rs.2,032 billion in 2020 at a CAGR of 11.6%.It is estimated that by 2020, Online Gaming will occupy more than one-fourth of the share (27.5%) of the total revenue from the E & M industry, followed by Digital Media (24.9%), Animation & VFX (20.4%), Live Events (18.0%), Filmed Entertainment (11.9%), Music (10.6%), Television (9.8%), Radio (8.6%), OOH Media (7.7%) and Print (5.7%) in that order. Growth in the next few years is likely to be backed by trends like Digitisation, Regionalisation, Convergence and Innovation. Projections for specific sectors are shown in table given below

BROADCAST GROWTH AND TRENDS IN INDIA
Broadcast Engineering Society (India) is the biggest Society of broadcast professionalsin India. Established in 1987 with the objective of disseminating knowledge in Radio & TV broadcasting among engineers and scientists in India, the Society encourages education, research and training in broadcast engineering through active cooperation with academic institutions, industry and Govt. The Society works closely with leading broadcast organizations in the world including ABU Malaysia, DRM U.K. and SBE U.S.A. The Society plays a leading role in inviting experts from different areas of broadcasting to facilitate adoption of new technologies in the broadcasting sector in India. The Society is a member of Engineering Council of India. The Society has twelve local chapters at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Thanjavur and Thiruvananthapuram. At the time of going to the press, the Society had over 2500 individual members and 50 corporate members on its rolls.

Keeping in mind the expected growth of the broadcasting sector in India, the public service broadcaster Prasar Bharati and private broadcasters have embarked upon an aggressive programme of modernization and expansion of their facilities throughout India. Given below are steps taken by Prasar Bharati to keep itself abreast with progress in this sector
Doordarshan India, DDI, national broadcaster for TV, has installed 23 DVB T2 transmitters at 19 locations.Tender process for installation of an additional 44 DVB-T2-Lite transmitters is in an advanced stage. DDI has planned for installation of 630 DVB-T2 transmitters throughout the country to digitalize its terrestrial services and switch off analog terrestrial services. The eco-system for reception of DVB-T2 services on multiple receive devices is picking up in the country.
DDI has upgraded its free-to-air “DD free dish”DTH Service to 104 TV and 40 radio channels. The platform
is being further upgraded to carry more than 250 channels in the near future. ICAS system has been implemented in the DTH platform.
DDI has expanded its HDTV production facility by setting up HDTV studios in Delhi (2 nos.) and Mumbai.Post-production, field production and preview facilities in HDTV format have been set up in 4 metros.
HDTV OB vans have been provided in Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi.
Thirtynine (39) TV studio centres of DDI in the country have been fully digitalized recently. All major studio centres originating 23 Satellite TV Channels (6 National, 1 International and 16 regional channels) are planned for migration to HDTV production and tapeless & file-based workflow in near future.
DDI plans to augment its central archives in Delhi and regional archives shortly and bring in new media
BES EXPO 2019 : Conference & Exhibition on Terrestrial & Satellite Broadcasting is the twenty-fifth in the series of events to be organized by Broadcast Engineering Society (India). The event follows BES EXPO 2018 which was appreciated by exhibitors as well as visitors. Nearly 300 companies from 25 countries displayedtheir products in BES EXPO
2018 directly or through their dealers and distributors in India. Exhibiting companies included those from Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, U.K. and U.S.A.
platforms for live streaming and delivery through internet. DDI plans to set up an optical fibre network to inter-connect selected centres in the near future.
All India Radio, AIR, national broadcaster for radio, proposes to increase its transmitters (MW, SW and FM). One hundred and ninety six (196) new FM transmitters are being procured and an additional 32SW transmitters are also being replaced. It has also planned to go for complete digitalization and automation of radio studios thereby generatinga huge market.
India is the largest DTH market in the world by number of subscribers. As on 31 December 2016, there were 97.05 million registered DTH subscribers in the country, of whom 62.65 million were active subscribers. The
market is serviced by 6 pay DTH providers and DDI’s free dish DTH Service. There are more than 800 TV channels in India.
In FM Phase III, Government of India proposes to set up 839 channels in 313 cities. Nearly 4000 community radio stations are also likely to be set up in the next three years.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), national regulator for broadcasting in India, has recommended opening of digital terrestrial transmission in India. The recommendation is under consideration by Govt. of India. Once approved, it is expected to create a huge market for TV transmitters and associated equipment and systems in India.

BES EXPO 2019 will be held from 17 to 19 January in Halls 7ABC& E, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Pragati Maidan is the most centrally located exhibition venue in Delhi. BES EXPO 2019 will be inaugurated at 10.00 A.M. on 17 January 2019.
BES EXPO 2019 is expected to be visited by nearly 4,000 engineers, managers, cinematographers, consultants, entrepreneurs and policy and decision-makers from Radio and TV broadcasting organizations as well as studio and post- production units in India. Visit to the exhibition by delegates attending the conference has always been a feature of the exhibition. Last year, nearly 1,000 delegates attended the conference.
Entry to exhibition is FREE by registration at the expo venue. Entry to conference is by payment of fee.

Shell Scheme: with furniture & fixtures including one table, two chairs, four spot-lights, one plug-point, fascia, one waste-paper basket and carpet for every 9 sqm space taken by exhibitors.
Raw Space Scheme: with marked space and a point for drawing power. Exhibitors participating in this category are expected to arrange their own furniture and fixtures. Raw space stalls are either two-or three-side open.
Open Space: for DSNG Vans, dish antenna etc.
The standard size of a stall (booth) in the expo is 3m x 3m x 2.5m (9sqm). However, bigger stalls are available as raw-space for exclusive display by a single company details of which can be had from The Expo Coordinator. Minimum space that can be booked by a single company in the shell scheme is 9 sqm. Space taken in different categories will be separated by a wall. Space will be allotted strictly on first-come first-served basis and is expected to fill up fast. Sharing and sub-letting of stalls is not permitted. Since space in the expo is limited, organizations desirous of participating in BES EXPO 2019 may send their requirement to The Expo Coordinator as soon as possible. Participation fee is payable in full at the time of booking space by telegraphic transfer, cheque or demand draft drawn in favour of BROADCAST ENGINEERING SOCIETY (INDIA) payable at NEW DELHI. BES EXPO 2019 will be advertised through advertisements in magazines, personal mailers, Radio, TV and SMSs to people connected with broadcasting in India. Exhibitors can also opt for space for putting advertisement panels within and outside the exhibition hall, details of which can be had from The Expo Coordinator. Fee for putting a 1m x 2.5m panel is Rs. 15,000 (US$250) only. Panels without the permission of the Society are not permitted.
Foreign exhibitors desirous of bringing goods into India for the purpose of display in the expo may do so under ATA Carnet without payment of duty. Facility for importing goods into India under ATA Carnet is available only to foreign companies who have paid the participation fee in foreign currency. The facility is not available to dealers, distributors or agents of foreign companies in India. A list of freight forwarders is available with The Coordinator.
As per Govt. of India rules, GST @ 18% is applicable on fee for exhibit space, advertisement in exhibition directory, advertisement panels, conference fee, sponsorship etc.
