EXPEDITION  TO  SIBERUT  WITH  MENTAWAI  The  Mentawai  are  the  inhabitants  of  the  island  of  Siberut,  which  is  located  about  100  kilometers  west  of  Sumatra.  This  population,  which   reached   the   island  3,000  years  ago,   remained   isolated   until   the   World   War   II.   Even   today,   many   mentawai   live  anchored  in  ancient  rites  and  ancestral  customs.  They  are  known  for  their  elaborate  tattoos  that  talk  about  the  future  and  their  nomadic  life.

PROGRAMA  

Day  1  

Arrival  in  Padang  (Indonesia).  Welcome  at  the  airport  and  transfer  to  the  hotel.  New  Year's  Eve  celebration.  

Day  2  

Breakfast  at  the  hotel.  We  spent  the  day  in  Padang  to  recover  from  jet   lag.  Will  buy  supplies  and  gifts  for  the  Mentawai.  

Day  3  

Breakfast  at  the  hotel  and  transfer  towards  the  port.  We  spent  the  day  on  the  boat  watching  the   coast   of   Sumatra   and   small   islands,   where   we  will   eat   and   do   some   snorkelling.   In   the  afternoon  return  to  Padang.  Dinner  and  night  at  the  hotel.  

Day  4  

Early  in  the  morning  we  will  have  breakfast  and  will  head  to  the  ferry  that  takes  us  to  Siberut.  

Once   in   Siberut   will   climb   to   motorized   canoes  that   will   bring   us   to   the   heart   of   the   mentawai  tribe   in   the   jungle,  where  we  will   spend  the  rest  of   the   afternoon   and   evening   knowing   their  traditions  and  rituals.  

Day  5  

Breakfast  with  mentawai  and  will  take  the  canoe  to   head   to   another   town   on   the   island.  We  will  share   all   day   long   with   natives   and   we   will  participate   in  a  private  ceremony  with  a  shaman  healing  and  invoking  the  spirits  of  the  forest,  the  river,   the   sky,   sea   and   earth.   Night   in   the  Mentawai  village.    

Day  6  

Back  to  the  coast  of  Siberut  island.  We  climb  to  the   canoes   again   and   return   to   the   departure  point.  We  will   spend  half  a  day   travelling  down  to  Manai  Koat  beach  .  Once  there  typical  dinner  and  night  in  log  cabins.  

 

Day  7  

Breakfast   on   the   beach.   We   will   bathe,  sunbathing  and  relax  enjoying  one  of  the  best  surfer  beaches  in  the  world.  We  will  eat  typical  food  and  spend  the  night  in  log  cabins.  

Day  8  

At  noon  we  will  take  a  quick  ferry  heading  Padang.  Overnight  in  Padang.  

Day  9  

Breakfast  and  departure  direction  to  Padang  Airport  where  we  will  end  our  trip.
