SVDP Outreach Corner
Backpack Program - We are collecting back-packs and supplies now thru July 26th, Please take a flyer from the tables near the entrances of the Church. It has a listing of the supplies that go into each backpack. If you have a neighbor or a friend who lives within the St. Lu-cy Parish boundaries or attends Mass at St. Lucy that needs a backpack for their child please have them come to the Outreach Office between 10 am and noon to sign up. They need to bring an ID for each child.
The Third Sunday Food Collection for our pantry will be held on July 18-19. Flyers will be available with the items most needed this month at the entrances to the Church and at the back of this Bulletin. Thank you for your generosity in June. We received almost enough food to fill the 100 bags of groceries that we distributed to clients in the last month.
Volunteer Opportunities - Do you want to help your neighbors in need? We have positions open if you have two hours per week to help staff the Outreach Of-fice. Please call the Outreach Office and leave your name and phone number and one of our officers will get back to you.
"Training" Masses in four consecutive weekends - June 27/28 to July 18/19
Do you know that there are 4 distinct parts in a Roman Catholic Mass? They are: Introductory rite, liturgy of the word, liturgy of the Eucharist, and the concluding rite.
Starting on June 27/28 weekend, we will begin a 4 part "education" on the Mass as the source and summit of our Christian lives. For the next four weeks, during the homily, we will learn more about:
1. Introductory rite - on June 27/28 2. Liturgy of the word - on July 4/5
3. Liturgy of the Eucharist - on July 11/12 4. The concluding rite - on July 18/19
Hopefully this will allow us to get a deeper appreciation of the Mass as a weekly life changing experience.
Reflecting on God’s Word
Traveling by plane these days calls for careful preparation. One airline recently posted notice that if your bag weighs more than fifty pounds, there is an additional fee of fifty dollars. Add in the restrictions on carry-on baggage: no liquids more than three ounces, no bags beyond a certain size. It encourages you to travel light.
Jesus is issuing his own travel instructions to those he chose to work with him. First, he gives them “authority over un-clean spirits” (Mark 6:7), a sharing in the authority the Father has given him for the work of spreading the gospel that the reign of evil is over and the reign of God is beginning.
Then, Jesus gets practical: Take nothing but a walking stick—to be used in climbing hills, driving off wild animals, or pushing away snakes found on the paths. No food, no sack to hold extra clothing—not even a second tunic—or to carry off anything from the towns you visit, and no money! Permission granted to wear sandals.
Finally, when you get to a place, do not look for the most comfortable lodging, take what comes first and be content there. The focus is clear: Stay on message—God’s kingdom is at hand. Repent and believe. And show it in action: Deliv-er the sick and possessed from what burdens them. If people don’t like the message? Move on.
Over two thousand years later, Jesus, risen Lord, continues to call ordinary folk. Back then it was some fishermen, a tax collector, a political activist; now it’s workers from every way of life, every profession and job. People raising families, singles, the elderly, anyone willing to confess that God is at work in our world, that evil will not have the last word, and that all creation finds its deepest meaning in Christ.

La Colecta de Alimentos el Tercer Fin de Semana del Mes para nuestra despensa será el próximo 18 y 19 de julio. Misas de "Entrenamiento" en cuatro fines de semana consecutivos – 27/27 de junio al 18/19 de julio
¿Sabes que hay 4 distintas partes en una Misa Católica Roma-na? Son: el Rito de Bienvenida, la Liturgia de la Palabra, la Litur-gia de la Eucaristía, y el Rito de Conclusión.
A partir del fin de semana del 27/28 de junio, comenzaremos una “lección” de las 4 partes de la Misa, siendo que es una parte muy importante de nuestra vida cristiana. Para las próximas cuatro semanas, durante la homilía, aprenderemos más:
1. El Rito de Bienvenida – el 27/28 de junio 2. Liturgia de la palabra – el 4/5 de julio
3. Liturgia de la Eucaristía – el 11/12 de julio 4. El Rito de conclusión – el 18/19 de julio
Esperemos que esto nos permitirá tener una apreciación más profunda de la Misa como una experiencia que cambia nuestra vida semanalmente.
Reflexionemos sobre la Palabra de Dios
En la actualidad viajar en avión necesita una preparación cuidadosa. Una de las líneas aéreas anunció recientemente que habría que pagar un pago adicional de cincuenta dólares si la maleta pesaba más de cincuenta libras. Añadamos las restricciones del equipaje de mano: no más de tres onzas de líquidos y la maleta tiene que ser de cierto tamaño. Se nos estimula a viajar ligero de equipaje.
Jesús anuncia sus propias instrucciones de viaje a aquellos que eligen trabajar con él. Primero les da “poder sobre los espíritus impu-ros” (Marcos 6:7) así como una participación en la autoridad que el Padre le ha dado a él en la misión de difundir el Evangelio de que el reino del maligno terminó y el reino de Dios ha comenzado.
Luego Jesús entra en cosas prácticas: no lleven nada para el camino, excepto un bastón para subir las colinas, ahuyentar a los ani-males salvajes o quitar del camino las serpientes que encuentren. No lleven alimento, ni bolsas para ropa adicional (ni siquiera una segunda túnica) ni para llevar cosas de los pueblos que visiten, ¡y ningún dinero! Se concede permiso para usar sandalias.
Finalmente, cuando lleguen a un lugar no busquen un sitio cómodo para quedarse, tomen lo que primero les ofrezcan y conténtense con ello. El foco de atención está claro, esto es, concentrarse en el mensaje: el reino de Dios está cerca. Arrepiéntanse y conviértan-se. Y demuéstrenlo con sus obras: liberen a los enfermos y poseídos de lo que les aflige. ¿No le gusta a la gente el mensaje de uste-des? Sigan su camino.
Dos mil años más tarde Jesús, el Señor resucitado, continúa llamando a gente ordinaria. En su tiempo eran pescadores, recaudado-res de impuestos, activistas políticos; hoy son trabajadores de todo estrato de vida, de toda profesión u oficio. Personas que forman una familia, solteros, ancianos y cualquier persona que esté dispuesta a confesar que Dios y su obra están presentes en el mundo, que el mal no tiene la última palabra, y que toda la creación encuentra su más profundo propósito en Cristo.
