The Haihayas’ were the descendents of Lunar Line-age. Originally they hailed from Gujarat’s Malava NavasariMahishmitipuri and Ratnapuri in Madhya Pradesh were their capitals. The Habi temple is the temple of Moon god and it represents the beauty of the Moon. In the Arab language when some-thing very beautiful or di-vinity is seen or perceived, the exclamatory expression uttered is ‘Ya Habib. There have been the worshippers of the beautiful Moon god in our race that are known as Haihaya (Habib) families. The clan god of the Habibs is the Moon god and they wor-ship, make offers and eat only after the appearance of the Moon.

They then lived in the Mangalwada region, the pre-sent Mangalwede city and its surroundings of maharastra.

So, we see our kins now liv-ing in Sholapur, LaturKol-hapur, Satara of Maharastra and Belagavi, Gokak, and savadatti of Karnataka. Sa-vadatti has mythological and historical backgrounds. The Renukadevi purana tells us of the battles between Par-ashurama and Sahasrar-juna. The Savadatti and its surrounding regions were ruled by the Chalukyas of Kalyanas and the Kalachuri dynasties. The temples here were built by the Chalukyas of Kalyani. The language we speak today is the ‘pattegar’ tongue. In our language we say ‘sava’ for ‘hundreds’. The rulers in the past had given hundred villages for the maintenance of the tem-ple here and that’s how the place came to be known as Savadattti.

The first king who rules Mangalawede was Ujit. His son Bijjal and successive kings Karna, Jogam Parmadi were the ‘samantas’ (who owed allegiance to Kalyani Chalukyas) of the Chalukyas of Kalyani. In 1130 A.D. Kalachuri Bijjala II became

an independent king. He was a powerful commander and an able administrator and lovable king. He was an ear-nest follower and devotee of the Shaiva religion. During his reign the entire region witnessed a social revolu-tion. The revolution led by the reformer and the thinker Basavanna. As a result so-cial life witnessed changes. Women were viewed as equal to men and the economy of the kingdom improved. The veerashaiva religion was re-formed. The devotee writers (shivsharanas and shivs-haranayyaru) wrote vacha-nas and communicated the complex philosophical con-cepts in the language of the ordinary people. These were the valuable contribu-tions of King Bijjal belonging to the Kalachuri lineology of Somavamsh Sahasrarjuna Kshatriya cult. The Kala-churis built temples which are the monumental artistic work of architectural beauty and grandeur. Our people are unfortunately ignorant of such important facts. If we try to rediscover our roots

and the great accomplish-ments and achievements of our forefathers, our self-esteem and that is what is needed now most.

The Somavamsh Sahas-rarjuna Kshatriya people were then the followers of the shaiva religion. The Sid-dalinga (Shidlings) Arasiddis are Sree Revansiddeshwar of Sholapur and they apply vibhuti. In their pooja apart-ment a separate platform is spared for their clan-god. The Raibagi families too worship the same god. The Merwade Bevinkatti families worship their clan-god Shin-ganpura’s (near Sholapur) Shambhomahadeva. During the Shravan masas there will be special poojas. Simi-larly, our people living in north-eastern parts of Kar-nataka (Gaddawali, Koda-mur, Chicholi, Ratkal) and Hyderabad worship their clan-god Sree Revansiddai-yya. We see such customs in many other places too. Thus, our people have been the followers of the shaiva dharma.

KalaCHuRi HaiHaYa liNeaGeWe thank you for your overwhelming support and your appreciation of the SSK TIMES. Hundreds of our readers have expressed their appreciations for starting the SSK TIMES. Some have praised our efforts in bringing out the is-sues neatly and flawlessly. We assure our dear readers’ responses and incorporate all good suggestions.

It is just a beginning. We have to go a long way to make it a true representative of all our kiths and kins liv-ing in all parts of our nation. Right now, we are just happy with our infantile walk as our readers have been respond-ing voluntarily and giving us the feedback of our perfor-mance. It is now merely a small step but there are in-dications that very soon we may be able to a big leap. The heaping letters, buzzing phone-calls from our readers have caused us to feel the sense of fulfillment of our endeavors.

We are happy to inform our readers that SSK TIMES is now reaching over a thou-sand households of our peo-ple in the states of Maharas-tra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and some Metro-politan cities. We are striv-ing hard to contact our people through our known acquaintances and the SSK Sangahas. We have to reach each home of our samaj and we appeal and request you all to communicate and con-vey the news and persuade our people to buy and read SSK TIMES regularly. The coverage now is growing in arithmetical progression and we have to make special and extra efforts to make it grow in geometrical progression.

Photos and news may be sent to our email address.

We appeal to the writers and thinkers of our samaj to send their articles, write ups and their opinions. As and when we get readers’ responses, acolumn will be made a regular feature of the paper.

We also request our pa-trons to feed the paper with their valuable advertise-ments and help us to march boldly and make this paper a national paper in the true sense of the term.

We assure our readers that we make all efforts to make the paper an ambas-sador of good-will that helps to bring about a national in-tegration of our same.

Our SSK Samaj has his-toric background. We have rich cultural heritages. But our samaj is the beset with any grave social problems. The changing times have been posing new and novel challenges and we have to tackle them thoughtfully. We have to think of the problems that our community is facing and we have to think and act aloud. We request you to make our paper a platform or medium for expressing your ideas and views.

Let us all collectively strive hard to make our samaj, an integrated force, a healthy and rich community and a big contributor in all fields and respects in the building up of our nation into a rich, powerful, happy India.

The Venugopala Swamy temple located at Hosa Kannambadi, near Krishna Raja Sagara was built in the 12th century AD. Before the Krishna Raja Sagara dam project was conceived by Sir M.Visvesvaraya in 1909, the temple complex was located in the village of Kannambadi. The KRS Dam project meant that Kannambadi and other sur-rounding settlements would be submerged. The then king of Mysore, Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV or-dered the construction of a new village for the residents of Kannambadi and aptly named it Hosa Kannambadi. The temple had a garbhagr-iha (sanctum sanctorum), a vestibule, a middle hall, and a mukhya mantapa (main hall). The cell opposite to the entrance had a figure of Kesava (Lord Krishna) and the south cell, containing the figure of Gopalakrishna, was a later addition. For more than 70 years the temple lay underwater, when the Khoday Founda-tion under the guidance of liquor baron and philan-thropist Mr. Sri Hari Khoday took up the uphill task of relocating and restoring the temple. It was initially planned to shift the entire complex to Madhuvana Park in Mysore. However, protests from the

villagers of Hosa Kannam-badi convinced the founda-tion to shift it to a place near the rehabilitated village. The cost of the project was estimated to be around INR 2.5 crore. The magnificent temple has been replica of the original design, well represented by modern motifs but devoid of the decorative figurines ow-ing to the lack of erstwhile skilled workmanship. Kudos to Srihari L Khoday, and his team of architects and the artisans. The temple restoration work was completed in De-cember 2011 but it has not been dedicated to the pub-lic worship as it is await-ing an official inauguration. It, however has become a tourist hotspot considering its tale of submersion and relocation. Although, the basic amenities like toilets, changing rooms, food out-lets, maintenance and reg-istration office etc are yet to be provided in its present site. These facilities would be provided before the of-ficial inauguration. It’s a worth while place of visit for the tourist and the pilgrims.
