From the Pastor’s Desk Spring 2018

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Mother’s Day is a day we honor and remember the special women in our lives who have nurtured, loved and shaped us into the people we are today. It is through their unconditional love that we begin to understand the depth

of Christ’s love for us, and his command to share that love with one another. On Mother’s Day, each of us will have an opportunity to share Christ’s unconditional love with the poor and vulnerable through our gift to the

Catholic Charities Mother’s Day Collection.

For Catholic Charities, charity is not just about providing material assistance, but acting with the same love and mercy that Jesus showed to

restore people’s dignity and give them the hope of a brighter future. Catholic Charities counts on our volunteer and financial support to offer

comprehensive programs that get to the root cause of suffering, address multiple needs, and help people rebuild their lives for the better.

Pope Francis has used a powerful image of the Church as “field hospitals.” During war, field hospitals are situated right on battlegrounds—close to the

wounded who need help. Similarly, as part of the Church in the Archdiocese of Chicago, Catholic Charities 150 service locations are very much like field

hospitals, helping those who are suffering, and located in neighborhoods that have sadly become like real battlegrounds, plagued with violence and despair. Catholic Charities program sites are safe havens in desperate areas and their staff and volunteers are truly ministers of mercy,

providing help through a hot meal, a bag of food, a place to live, the care of a child or elderly relative, counseling, job training, job placement, or all of these

things. Serving nearly one million people each year, Catholic Charities brings Christ’s love and mercy to the people and the places that

need it most.

Please accept my sincere gratitude for your past support of the Catholic Charities Mother’s Day Collection, and please consider being as generous as

Estimados hermanas y hermanos en Cristo,

El Día de las Madres es un día en el que honramos y recordamos a las mujeres especiales en nuestras vidas que nos han criado, amado y moldeado en las

personas que somos hoy. Es a través de su amor incondicional que comenzamos a comprender la profundidad del amor de Cristo por nosotros y su mandato a

compartir ese amor unos con otros.

El Día de las Madres, cada uno de nosotros tendrá la oportunidad de compartir el amor incondicional de Cristo con los pobres y vulnerables a través de nuestra

donación a la Colecta del Día de la Madres de Caridades Católicas. Para Caridades Católicas, la caridad no se trata solamente de proveer asistencia

material, sino de actuar con el mismo amor y misericordia que Jesús mostró para restaurar la dignidad de las personas y darles la esperanza de un futuro más

brillante. Caridades Católicas cuenta con nuestro apoyo financiero y voluntario para ofrecer programas integrales que llegan a la raíz del sufrimiento, abordan

necesidades múltiples y ayudan a las personas a reconstruir sus vidas para mejor.

El Papa Francisco ha usado una imagen poderosa de la Iglesia como “hospitales de campaña”. Durante la guerra, los hospitales de campaña están situados justo en los campos de batalla, cerca de los heridos que necesitan ayuda. De manera similar, como parte de la Iglesia en la Arquidiócesis de Chicago, los 150 lugares de servicio de Caridades Católicas son muy parecidos a hospitales de campaña, pues ayudan a los que sufren y se ubican en vecindarios que tristemente se han

convertido en algo parecido a verdaderos campos de batalla, plagados de violencia y desesperanza. Los lugares de los programas de Caridades Católicas

son sitios seguros en áreas desesperadas y su personal y voluntarios son verdaderos ministros de misericordia, que proporcionan ayuda a través de una

comida caliente, una bolsa de alimentos, un lugar para vivir, el cuidado de un niño o familiar mayor, consejería, capacitación para el trabajo, colocación laboral, o

todas estas cosas. Sirviendo a cerca de un millón de personas cada año, Caridades Católicas trae el amor y misericordia de Cristo a las personas y

lugares que más lo necesitan.

Drogie Siostry i drodzy Bracia w Chrystusie,

Dzień Matki to szczególny czas, kiedy okazujemy szacunek i pamiętamy o wyjątkowej kobiecie w naszym życiu, która opiekowała się nami, kochała nas i ukształtowała nas na te osoby, którymi jesteśmy dzisiaj. To dzięki jej

bezwarunkowej miłości rozpoczęliśmy rozumieć głębię miłości Chrystusa do nas, a także Jego przykazanie, aby dzielić się miłością z innymi.

Każdego roku w Dniu Matki, podczas kolekty Catholic Charities z okazji Dnia Matki mamy możliwość dzielenia się tą bezwarunkową miłością z ubogimi i bezbronnymi. Dla Catholic Charities okazywanie miłości nie oznacza jedynie udzielania pomocy

materialnej. Chodzi w nim o działanie inspirowane tą samą miłością i miłosierdziem, jakie Jezus okazywał, kiedy przywracał ludziom godność i dawał im nadzieję na

lepszą przyszłość. Catholic Charities w swoich działach polega na wolontariuszach i na otrzymywanym wsparciu finansowym. Dzięki temu jest w stanie oferować

wszechstronne programy za pośrednictwem, których usuwa przyczyny cierpienia i odpowiada na wiele potrzeb, jak również pomaga wielu osobom zmieniać na lepsze

swoje życie.

Papież Franciszek dał nam sugestywny obraz Kościoła, jako „szpitala polowego”. W czasie wojny szpitale polowe są usytuowane bezpośrednio na polu bitwy –blisko rannych, którzy potrzebują pomocy. Analogicznie,150 placówek Catholic Charities położonych w różnych miejscach należących do Archidiecezji Chicago, jest bardzo podobnych do szpitali polowych, które pomagają cierpiącym. Są one położone w

okolicach, które niestety stały się prawdziwymi polami bitwy doświadczanymi plagami przemocy i desperacji. Placówki, w których realizowane są programy

Catholic Charities są niczym bezpieczne nieba na terenach desperacko potrzebujących pomocy, a pracownicy i wolontariusze tych miejsc prawdziwie są

szafarzami miłosierdzia. Pomagają przez rozdawanie gorących posiłków, żywności, zapewniają schronienie, opiekę nad dziećmi lub starszymi, udzielają poradnictwa, szkoleń zawodowych lub wszystkiego tego jednocześnie. Catholic Charities służy

pomocą blisko milionowi osób rocznie. Zanosi miłość Chrystusa i Jego miłosierdzie osobom i miejscom będącym w największej potrzebie.

Proszę, abyście przyjęli moje wyrazy szczerej wdzięczności za pomoc udzieloną w przeszłości na rzecz kolekty Catholic Charities z okazji Dnia Matki.

PLEASE HELP US!!!The St Turibius bingo is looking for volunteers to assist with

our weekly bingo. Our bingo is an important fundraising effort for our parish. We are looking for volunteers who are

over the age of 18 and who are friendly and willing to help us once a month. Help is needed selling bingo cads, pull tabs

and helping our dedicated kitchen staff. I will personally guarantee that once you try it you will enjoy it.

Parish Mission Statement

We Believe that God is Love, and when we live in love we live in God and God lives in

us! Therefore we, the Parish Family of Saint Turibius, dedicate ourselves to living out

Christ’s Great Commandment: we will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength, and we will show our love for God

by the way we love and care for one another. To this end, we will respond to our baptismal

call, strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and empowered by

the Holy Spirit. As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifts God has given to us, we will share our time, our talent

and our treasure with each other. We welcome into our parish family all people, because we

believe that together we are the Body of Christ and together we can bring the love, peace,
