$15 Challenge Workshop
Held Saturday, March 12
4-H members attended the $15 Challenge Workshop on
Saturday, March 12th, at the Hopkinton Public Library. After
discussing project goals and details members headed to the
Not So Tiny House Mission Store to look for some clothing
items for their $15 Challenge projects.

Food Safety Quality Assurance Training Information!
ALL county fair and state fair exhibitors MUST be Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) certified before they
can exhibit projects in the following categories: Beef, Swine, Dairy (cattle & goat), Sheep, Poultry, Meat Goat
and Rabbit. This is a free certification for 4-H youth!
Check your FSQA status for 2016 in 4hOnline. If you certified in 2015 by attending a FSQA class, you MUST recertify
again this year. To become certified, exhibitors can only attend an Extension-approved class OR pass the FSQA test
for their age group.
Youth in grades 4th – 6th must attend a training each year. The testing option is available only to those youth in 7th –
12th grades.
Youth in 7th – 9th grades have the option to attend a training every year or pass the Intermediate test, which certifies
the youth until they reach 10th grade.
Youth in 10th – 12th grades have the option to attend a training every year or complete the Advanced test, which
certifies the youth until they complete 12th grade.

State Fair Swine ID
Deadline May 15th!
All State Fair swine need to be DNA punch tagged
and entered into 4honline by May 15th. Families will
be responsible for doing the DNA tagging them-
selves. Tags are available at the Delaware County
Extension and Outreach Office for $10 per tag and
families may check out the DNA tagger. All DNA
samples will need to be returned in the large enve-
lope to the Delaware County Extension and Outreach
Office to be submitted to the state.
Exhibitors will need to login to 4hOnline to enter their
own data information for State Fair Swine. Assis-
tance with the 4-H Online identification process will
be available. This must be completed BEFORE May
15th. If you would like to reserve the DNA tagger
please contact the Delaware County Extension and
Outreach Office at 563-927-4201.
Market Sheep & Meat
Goat Weigh-in May 7th!
The market sheep and meat goat weigh-in
for the 2016 Delaware County Fair will be on
Saturday, May 7th, from 7:30-9:00 a.m.
(County Fair), and 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
(State Fair) at the west end of the Sheep/
Goat barn on the Fairgrounds. All market
sheep and meat goats must be weighed-in
at this time.

Don’t Forget: 2016 Delaware
County 4-H Scholarships
Applications due April 12th! Did you know that there are Delaware County 4-H
scholarships to help with your college expenses?
The scholarships range from $100-$500. To be
eligible you must be a 2015-2016 high school
graduate, currently enrolled in 4-H in Delaware
County and be attending a post secondary school
this fall.
Applications along with two letters of recommen-
dation (one from your 4-H club leader & one from
another person) are due to the Extension office by
April 12th at 4:30 pm. The application can be

4-Hers for 4-H Campaign!
This annual campaign is conducted by youth
members of the State 4-H Council Finance Com-
mittee. This year marks the 31st anniversary of
the Iowa 4-H’ers for 4-H Campaign. The goal
has been set at $31,000 with a suggested $3.00
per member donation! You can help grow 4-H in
Iowa! Donations are due to the Extension Office
by May 31st.

Iowa 4-H Youth Conference June 28-30
All Iowa youth in grades 8-12 are
invited to attend the 2016 Iowa 4- H
Youth Conference ! This exciting
event, held June 28-30, offers a wide
variety of new experiences and op-
portunities. Iowa Youth Conference is
a gathering of more than 1,000 youth
delegates from around the state for a three-day event held on
the Iowa State University campus. The conference features
educational and fun workshops, motivational speakers, as well
as evening entertainment activities like dances, bowling, casino
night, swimming and a formal banquet. The cost of the confer-
ence is $175.00 which includes meals, housing and events, and
a conference t-shirt (the Delaware County Foodstand will reim-
burse 75% of the total cost). The deadline to register is June

Leader’s Spring Meeting
April 26th at 7:00 p.m.
Our spring Leader’s Meeting to schedule
4-H Foodstand shifts, Exhibit Hall host-
ing, and Conference Judging times will
be on Tuesday, April 26th, beginning at
7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at
the Iowa State University Extension and
Outreach Delaware County Office.
We will cover updates for the 2016 Fair
and schedule the clubs for fair duties.
Leaders will also pick up fair entry forms,
premium sheets, and 2016 Fairbooks at
this meeting. Please ensure at least one
leader from your club is present to
choose shifts or you will be assigned to a
shift.
Visual Arts Workshops to be Held
April 24th and May 22nd!
Chicken Creek Studio, located outside of Manchester,
will host two visual arts workshops this spring for Dela-
ware County 4-H members. During the first workshop,
members will create a painting project. We will dis-
cuss the elements of art and principles of design and
exhibit goal sheets. This will be held on April 24th
from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Chicken Creek Studio. Regis-
ter for this workshop by April 18th. The second work-
shop will feature a string art project! The workshop
will be on May 22nd from 1:00-3:00 p.m. registration
deadline is May 16th. To register for the workshops

Project Meeting
May 4th! 4-H members planning to exhibit a
poultry or Rabbit project at the 2016
Delaware County Fair should plan to
attend the Poultry and Rabbit Project
Meeting on May 4th at 6:30 p.m. at the
Extension Office. The meeting will
cover general project information as
well as information for the 2016 Fair.

ID Day May 12th
at the Extension Office
Join us on May 12th for ID Day! Stop
by the Delaware County Extension Of-
fice between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
for help identifying your fair livestock
animals in 4honline.
Extension Staff will be there to assist
you with the process. Please bring
necessary information regarding your
livestock project, including name/ear
tag number, breed, gender, birthdate,
tattoo number, and registration docu-
mentation (breeding beef only). The
deadline to identify livestock for the
fair is May 15th! If you have questions
please call the Extension Office!
Junior 4-H Camp!
Join other Junior 4-H members in grades 4th-6th from Eastern Iowa
for two days of camp fun at Camp Shalom in Maquoketa, IA! The two day camp,
June 10-11, will include three meals, an overnight stay, canoeing, swimming, and
camping adventures! The cost of the trip is $75. After attending the trip the Delaware
County 4-H Foodstand will reimburse 75% of the total cost of the trip! Junior 4-H
members can attend this camp for just $18.25.

7th Annual Manchester Rhubarb Fest-June 4th!
The 7th Annual Manchester Rhubarb Fest will be held June 4th at Baum park! This
annual festival features many rhubarb contests and events including rhubarb food
contests, rhubarb plant growing contests, craft fair, an interactive bug zoo, a rhubarb
bike ride, music, and much more! For more information on contests and the event visit

Livestock ID Instructions IMPORTANT! ALL Livestock must be identified in 4honline by May 15th!
No late entries are allowed! 1. Go to 4-H Online: https://iowa.4honline.com and log-in. 2. Click “Edit” to the right of the member listed to go to that member’s Personal Information Screen. 3. Locate and click on the Animals/Livestock link in the upper left. 4. You will see a drop down box and any previously entered animals listed. Select the animal type that you want to enter and click the add button . This will take you to the corresponding entry screen for your animal as depicted. Note that selec-tions will activate extra entry fields [Example: selecting Registered will in some cases show a Breed drop down box.] 5. Rule Changes for the 2016 Delaware County Fair-IMPORTANT Official Fairbooks with rules and class descriptions will be available from Club Leaders in May!
Conference Judging Changes:
All Departments: All exhibits must be removed from the building on Sunday, July 17, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Premium money will be forfeited if exhibits or parts of exhibits are removed before this time or left after this time.
Conference Project Area Class numbers have been updated to reflect changes in the State Fair classes. Please make note of these changes
and use the correct project class number!
Livestock:
Fair Entry Procedure: New for 2016! Dairy, Dog, Horse, Pet, Poultry, and Rabbit Show Class Entry Forms must be turned in at the Extension Office on or before Monday, June 27, 2016. These forms will be available online and at the Extension Office after May 15th. Check the May
Newsletter for more info!
General Livestock Rules: Exhibitors must be dressed in clean, neat, and appropriate attire. Appropriate attire does not include sandals, flip-
flops, or hats.
All Livestock Departments: No drugs, artificial stimulants, or relaxants are allowed.
Livestock Release Times: Dairy cows in milk will be released following the conclusion of the Dairy Cattle and Goat shows. All other dairy cattle will be released after 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15. Rabbit & Poultry exhibits will be released from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Friday July 15th. All other animals not being sold in the Livestock Sale will be released between 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Friday, July 15. Grand Champion Livestock winners
will be exhibited in the Hall of Champions after 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 15. They will be release after 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 17.
Beef: Purebred heifers must meet the standards of the appropriate breed association. Registration papers must be submitted to the Delaware
County Extension Office by May 15th, 2016 or the exhibit will be shown in the crossbred class.
Jr. Cattle Feeder Show (Pen of 3 & Cow/Calf): The show will begin at 6:00 p.m.
Meat Goats: All goats may be subject to be mouthed by the judge during their time at the fair.
Horse: Additional classes: 5570 Junior Ranch Horse (8th grade and under) 5580 Senior Ranch Horse (9th grade and over) 5700 Junior In-Hand
Trail (8th grade and under) 5705 Senior In-Hand Trail (9th grade and over)
Swine: Barrows and Gilts in the Market Swine Show & Breeding Gilt Show must weigh between 225-300 pounds in order to be in the
Championship Drive. You may still show, but will only be allowed a ribbon and not eligible for the Championship Drive or the Matrix.
13. Due to packer demands and concerns, it is strongly recommended that pigs are not clipped. Hair should not be shorter than ½ inch. Reminder: NO clipping on the fairgrounds.
14. There shall be no coloring agents, powder, oil, gels, conditioners, or any other foreign substance used on the hogs. The use of any is strictly
prohibited. Pigs in violation will not be allowed to show.
16.When designating a hog for sale in the auction, swine sale participants must choose a hog with an ending weight between 230 and 280 pounds, if possible. However, if none of an exhibitor’s entries meet this standard, that exhibitor must sell the pig that is closest to that weight
range.
