Unable to recover files from VMware...

cshyshtof 2 posts since 29-Jun-2011Unable to recover files from VMware image (FLR) 25-Jun-2012 06:27Hello,

I have successfuly performed a backup of several VMs using the VM Proxy. Some VMswere enabled for CBT, some not. When I try to perform a restore of individual files, I get themessage: "The VMDK filename is not valid or present. Verify that the proxy was correctlyregistered using the supported method in the documentation". It happens when I click inBackup and Restine on GLR button of that specific backup. The Proxy seems to be enabled,as backups are executed properly. The Avamar is 6.1.0-333. Any help?

    Cheers,

    Krzysztof

Do you have multiple vCenters registered to the MCS, this error may appear if mcs isselecting a flr proxy which is located on a different vCenter than the source VM of thebackup.

If this is not the case, then you may also try to register FLR proxy again and perform the Filelevel restore.

in response to Sandeep SinhaAs an aside, how does Avamar select a proxy do browse a backup for a file-level recoveryor to perform the recovery? Is it completely random or is there any preference to use aproxy local to the VM or backup location? As you hinted at, there are environments involvingmultiple sites, vCenters, and complex backup and replication topologies where it would beadvantageous to be able to control which proxy is used for a browse/restore. Is there anyway to do this?

    go to administration

    edit each proxy

Datastores tab - do the select all again or unselect all and pick just the ones you want

Groups tab - do the select all again

    ok

it should say it has been updated

after doing this to all of them your FLR should work again ( if not invite them all again)

This was something about them getting hung.

once I did this my FLR worked again.
